A song of its time and appeals to people who grew up in the 90s. Bought Noel a house or 2 and it's no worse than other songs by other people. When they tour next year you won't be there singing it.

i remember reading somewhere that this line was inspired by Brackett the Butler from the kids’ TV programme ‘Chigley’. Brian Cant must be turning in his grave.

As for Oasis, I found their first album semi-decent but they’ve done nothing worthy of note since. Saw them at Maine Road in about ‘97 but they haven’t worn well. Their music was of that time and for me has been and gone.

You're right Blur won the battle. Oasis won the war! I'm assuming that I don't have to explain this.
I listened to Parkside recently. I still enjoy it but the songs are so dated.
I listened to What's the Story? recently. Not dated at all.

I’m not even a huge Oasis fan really , but that one is up there in my top ten.
I also love Blur , the whole falling out was pretty much manufactured by their marketing team I think. Don’t think it did either bands much harm though tbh!

The Stone Roses were a different generation though. I get that they were played loads in the 90s but their band was formed in the early 80s when oasis were kids.

I think Live Forever is one of their best songs but then again I was 14 when this came out and it reminds me of happy times with friends. I don't think Wonderwall is terrible and since when did lyrics have to be literal? Songs aren't a factual description of real life.

The fall out between Blur and Oasis was also jumping on the North/South divide I think.

I see the title as someone who adores someone else and thinks of them as someone to look up to. Which is all probably wrong , but it seems that way to me. I don’t even think the band knows exactly what it means !
I do prefer ‘ don’t look back in anger ‘ though.

Fans were asked to nominate three songs. Players/Teams then gave them to FIFA. Noel Gallagher is a avid Man city fan and Wonderwall started being sung at Man City matches quite a while ago. When he's in concert in Liverpool, he used to tell the audience to get ready to worship their God and up popped a picture of Pepe Guardiola, but it was taken in good humour (I go to his concerts).
It's a simple song, easily remembered and sung and works off tune.

All Oasis songs are in one monotone note because they can’t actually sing.

A lot of lyrics to songs don’t make a huge amount of sense at times. Plus many were probably written under the influence of narcotics or alcohol or both, so often tend to be a bit suspect as well.

I don't disagree but I think some of this is about the age you were when these bands were popular. I mean I really liked Suede and actually found the more relatable coming from a boring suburb in London at the time. However, I am not sure how anyone can argue that Oasis are talentless.
