Wonderwall is one of the most boring songs ever

It's just the same note over and over.

Plus a wonderwall isn't even a thing.

'Stand By Me' is much much worse. The droning on that has always annoyed me. Hate, hate, hate that song.

I'm an Oasis fan. Wonderwall was great back in the day. It is simple and connects with a large number of people. That's an exceptionally hard song to write even though it sounds easy. But it's been killed by over playing and that's the real issue.

It's every buskers song. It's every pub sing along. It's every karaoke night.

Give me Masterplan every day of the week.

Probably popular because it's easy to get the notes right when there's only two of them in the whole frigging "tune".

This is untrue. The basic riff comprises of four chords and the chords changes are quick and the strum pattern is quite tricky to execute. Its classed as intermediate level guitar.

RedCarsAreNice · 18/07/2026 07:39

I feel this way about Mr Brightside. It's utter shit

Never have I agreed more with a post on Mumsnet - solidarity 💪

Slowly walking down the hall. Faster than a cannonball. Deep.

That makes no sense at all !

ilovesooty · 18/07/2026 09:13

It's played after MCFC matches. I don't like it being adopted for England.

tttigress · 18/07/2026 09:17

You could say that about a lot of Oasis stuff.

I guess they just had the Zeitgeist if the 90s.

If a lot of songs were produced now, their flaws would soon be highlighted.

Also there stuff sounds like an AI repro of earlier material. So in that respect they were ahead of their time!

Sahara123 · 18/07/2026 09:23

Oh no ! I love Wonderwall ! I do get why people don’t like it , but for me I love the guitar on it, I’m not particularly musical and can’t describe it but I love the kind of off beat playing of it !

pouletvous · 18/07/2026 09:23

I hate oasis. Pair of twats

This may have just described what I was trying to say 🤣

I hate oasis. Pair of twats

There's five of them.

pouletvous · 18/07/2026 09:27

It’s a shit song

basic

basic lyrics, basic chords, basic tune

shite

SusanChurchouse · 18/07/2026 09:29

My favourite Oasis track is She’s Electric, because it’s upbeat and jaunty and doesn’t really sound like the others. I find Oasis the musical equivalent of meat and potatoes. I don’t turn off the radio when they come on but wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to them. The devotion they inspire among my peers is a mystery to me.

Liam Gallagher is a talentless oaf. Having a go at Suede and the Manics when they announced their tour. I’d take either of them every day of the week over anything LG has done.

x2boys · 18/07/2026 09:30

I.like it.

Who classes it as intermediate? And on what scale? What would be a 'hard song' by comparison?

Beetlebumz · 18/07/2026 09:33

Yes it’s dull and droning, never liked it.

As an additional Oasis fan, wonderwall fine by me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t want let loose crazy for you which only reached no 2 due to prolonged wet wet wet - love is all around 94 sticking in the charts. All same time in 90’s.

That was actually a massive tune and far preferable to Caterwaul or whatever it’s called

Wildywondrous · 18/07/2026 09:43

I was a teenager in the 90's and loved Oasis, Blur, Stone Roses etc and at the time would've defended Oasis to anyone but now as an adult I can admit they're shit, a big majority of their lyrics are shit and they can't sing.

If Liam and Noel had been two amenable, friendly guys I reckon Oasis wouldn't have been as popular, the fact they were arseholes made them seem cool to lots of people, it made many want to be them and many want to be part of what they thought was a cool gang. A bit like how high school bullies will have a big group of people around them.

Wonderwall has always been a crap song though but it's easy for fans to sing along to at a football match, the lyrics are simple and the Gallagher brothers were never good singers either, they've always sounded like a pissed bloke at a karaoke.

leporello · 18/07/2026 09:47

I loved it in the 90s but that moment has passed and I'm mildly baffled by its 'national treasure' status now. I don't care if people want to sing it at football matches but when they sang it at the first night of the proms last night I raised an eyebrow. It's very basic (but agree with a pp that mull of kintyre is worse).

forceofhabitandnotneed · 18/07/2026 10:00

Like most Oasis songs it's a boorish dirge. I just imagine it being bellowed by pissed up lads at their luckless girlfriends ("yer me fookin Wonderwall, babes").

It's rather depressing how the Gallaghers are now seen as the defining sound of 90s Manchester while the likes of M People often get overlooked.

It’s a lyric from Champagne Supernova though ! Still doesn't make sense 🤣

SqueakyFromme · 18/07/2026 10:07

I think it is on Amazon a documentary about them and there is some recording of R Kid and R Noel off their heads on coke taking utter nonsense and it’s painful to listen to, really embarrassing 🙈

GotALionInMyPocket · 18/07/2026 10:08

I love that Let Loose song.
Not because it's a good song but because it reminds me of a happy time when I started seeing my then boyfriend who incidentally bought me Wonderwall on CD.
I don't know why as I never said I liked it as I did not like it so I wouldn't have said that I did.

I've still got it. I still see him around even though we split up a long time ago.
Next time I see him I shall ask,

'why exactly did you buy me Wonder wall? ' 😁

I think it's about being intoxicated and pretending not to be on the outside while your mind is buzzing.
Could be wrong.
