I think it’s fabulous. I had the albums in the 90s - most of us did. It was fine then but I felt Blur had the edge. I think time has told a different story. Oasis’s music has transcended its origins, it speaks to ordinary people, and no matter the meaning (or insensibility) of the words, many of their songs annd simple rhythms are anthemic. There’s a sadness about it but also a depth, the extraordinary in the ordinary and humdrum of people’s lives. I feel the same about some of Richard Ashcroft’s songs for the Verve. They bring people together in a very special way. The gig last summer at Wembley I went to was one of the best I’ve seen, they’ve matured so no stupid arseholery and seeing Richard Ashcroft beforehand was fabulous too.

I feel differently about Mr Brightside, loved hot Fuss, loved it back in the day, have seen the killers many times but I’m sick to death of that song. For me the popularity has ruined it.

Tell your son we saw them in Wembley last year.
They were amazing and definitely one of the best ever concerts I have been to. Wembley was literally shaking. Good luck getting tickets.

I did a deep dive into it a few months ago, following on from a thread on here actually, it was a travesty, walls not even joined and the text book blue print for anti social activities, so sad when all people needed was a home. There are forums about it and some good photos, one of Steve coogan with his MX5 when he first made some money and he refused to park it there, would have been c 1990 looking at the reg. the Area looks good now it’s been redeveloped, I looked on street view

It was great, many parties, artists, characters. Also dangerous, we were skint and used to stay in groups at various flats because there was a guy saying he was the Ripper and he was going to kill someone. Us women stuck together. I had a bar job and used to walk home at midnight from Oxford Rd, over Hulme Bridge, terrified. Lots of fun too at the shabeens, great music. It was all a bit lawless at times.I think Steve Coogan lived in west didsbury too but not sure when. We were all young 19 or 21 ish. There is a you tube film or two if you search, made at that time x They had moved the families and older people out by then as it was so badly designed and cheaply built and the council were giving out flats like smarties because it was very empty for a while. This was before all the van people moved with their dogs on strings.

It’s alright, I don’t get absolutely buzzing or anything when it comes on though it’s just an average song!

@Antigny86 thank you ! I’ve seen what I can on YouTube I believe, what made me think this is bizarre is that the architects that the crescents were named after based the design on the Royal Crescent in Bath ! How deluded they must have been to do that ?

Awful awful whiney dirge. Being Irish, my interest is always diverted by creative people with Irish roots, particularly when it comes to music. But ye’s can keep the Gallagher brothers. I’ve decided they’re English🤣🤣

I don’t mind it, although I wouldn’t seek it out to listen to it. It has a certain anthemic quality that I don’t think you can deny. I also don’t mind Champagne Supernova, for similar reasons.

Their first album was dynamite, though, and remains one of my all-time favourites.
The problem was they got rich and famous and didn’t have anything to fuel them any more.

After my time I'm afraid, though the council had trouble collecting rent and keeping a lid on it all! That was a joke, John Nash, Charles Barry etc. There was a terrible scandal over it as someone at the council got a backhander to get them built, more money for the architects etc. We used to laugh at the comparison between the neoclassical and the concrete.

@Antigny86 thanks so much for replying about this, I’m aware it’s off topic. Yes what a contrast the magnificent Bath Crescent still glowing to this day. Such anger about how people were treated and corruption though. Social housing in the 60’s and brutalist tower blocks fascinate me.

It's alright, just like most of the Oasis/Blur songs - both very much of their time now. But my god so much better than The Stone Roses, Fool's Gold, the only song most people had heard of even back then just drones on without going anywhere. Ian's head wobble dancing is hideous. Also loathed The Happy Monday's - what an embarrassment to music.

The whole 'Madchester' thing though was lame as fuck IMO. It was just who could take the most drugs and so be the most cool.

I remember being about 8 in some shop changing room listening to that and thinking WTAF are they on about at the time.

Thanks, we did try on all devices last year but were unsuccessful unfortunately. I'm even prepared to get tickets in Europe if I can't get them here next year. It would literally make his whole life!

I'm not an Oasis fan but I do like their Wonderwall song. I was more Blur than Oasis back in the day.

What is the significance of Wonderwall now though? If it's football related, then it's Three Lions by the Lightning Seeds. That's the big football anthem.
