To be sick to death of Andy Burnham already

Viviennemary · 17/07/2026 20:57

I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

Wow, care to elaborate on such a ridiculous thing to say?

It's not because he's Northern - it's because he's stoking the North-South divide implying that we're all rolling in cash in the South.

We're in a poor area in the South, but presumably will be subsidising those up North.

Edited

I also live in a poor area, poorest area in the south outside of London. The truth is that the majority of the south, especially South East is much much wealthier than the north and the funding is higher.

You do realise that Andy Burnham went to Cambridge? 😂

Yes I am aware of that

It has a strong academic track record and boasts six Nobel laureates among its alumni.

If you’re going to make ridiculous comments at least back them up with some kind of evidence.

sunstreaming · 18/07/2026 19:10

The business case for moving the Office of number 10 to Manchester was signed off in March so it isn't Andy Burnham's coup. It's very worrying how many things which are easily verifiable facts are being misrepresented. If you base you argument on something which isn't true, then your argument is invalid.

So Where's your input as to why Burnham is the right man for PM?. Are YOU going to show awareness or are you just going to keep on with the personal attacks?

You know we're on mn not a court of law yes? Sharing opinion without evidence is what we all do.

Interesting to see @Viviennemaryhas come back to her almost full thread only 3 times and said absolutely nothing significant about why she dislikes Andy Burnham. Only personal insults about his voice and accusing him of being a working class hero, which he has never in any way displayed.
It's almost as if she's afraid he's going to bring in some changes she won't like 🤔

You do have to admire her skills though. Posting a thread and getting almost 700 posts within 22-23 hours, and barely appearing on it herself. 😆

PrettyLittleRose · 18/07/2026 19:13

I am fine with Andy Burnham being PM by the way. Smile

Gloriia · 18/07/2026 19:14

I might initiate a by election in our area. I'm sure I could get some support in Westminster and run the country. Seems anyone is eligible.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 18/07/2026 19:14

All this Seventes stuff he keeps banging about is to remind older voters that they were very similar times to niw in some
respects.

You know us and them.

He ibviously sees himself as the New Saviour to put the xountry back on its feet again.

Not ro be trusted. A copmlete tosser.

PrettyLittleRose · 18/07/2026 19:15

Isn't Fitz part of Cambridge though? I'm working class and went to the town comp, so I'm clearly not going to be very knowledgeable or bright, so I'm not sure.... Wink

It is because he’s northern
and his accent
and his clothes

i am really shocked by the xenophobic bile spouted about him on Mumsnet

really embarrassing

No we don’t actually.

When posters make ridiculous comments without anything to back them up they will quite rightly be pulled up on it- calling such posts to account is what we all do.

No-one cares that he's Northern. It's his slimy way of getting in and his massive ego that is the issue.

You can't for example post actual lies and mistruths but an opinion is fine.

Calling posts to account with substance might help. Not infantile personal attacks on posters and where the frig do we get xenophobia from? If any of you critics can say you've never made derogatory comments about politicians' demeanours/accents/ dress sense, you've got a point, if not, you're hypocrites. If you are happy to dish it out for 14 years you can expect to take it back after 2.

What's your definition of socialism? And what makes you fear it?

The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money.

Emeraldforest · 18/07/2026 19:20

I thought Keir Starmer was doing ok, funnily the steady progress he had made in many areas gets ignored....he should have been given a chance to follow through with other plans. But oh no,the bl**dy Tory media stirring up the somewhat dense electorate.
For goodness sake give Andy Burnham a chance now! Or do you really want the treacherous Farage as pm?

It really doesn’t. It’s consistently towards the bottom end of the academic rankings and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks it’s a great college. It’s mostly fishing in the clearing pool. It’s exactly the sort of place you’d expect Burnham to scrape into.

Over 200 Labour MPs canvassed in Makerfield and 300 plus nominated Burnham. They have to take responsibility, rather than trying to blame the press.

You protesteth rather too much

Starmer tried to block burnham’s ability to challenge him. That’s the ‘slimy’ bit
