To be sick to death of Andy Burnham already

1000 replies

Viviennemary · 17/07/2026 20:57

I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

The scenario you've outlined could have happened at any time in our history. There is no need for a precedent to be set, as this isn't some form of landmark test of law.
It does however serve as a cautionary tale for anyone considering voting for parties with strong associations with extremists like Tommy Robinson.

Labour have just set the precedent.

SM doesn't make nutters go and murder politicians. Ann Widdecombe wasn't even on SM. Whoever killed her made his own calculated choice in travelling to murder her.

But the person who murdered her may have been on and encouraged by SM. It’s difficult to speculate because we don’t know, but I’d be amazed if the accused has not been radicalised by SM. Irrelevant if AW was on SM.

I see you haven’t even read up, not surprising. Are you annoyed Starmer is ousted and that’s the reason for your posts?

It won’t bring him back.

Ah so you agree she doesn’t have any

Have you seen the cost of living? Have you seen how crowded everything is? Have you seen the state of the NHS?

bring back the Tories.

I think perhaps you misunderstand the length of time it needs for policies enacted to have an effect. All those things you mentioned are a direct consequence of the Tory policies enacted since David Cameron in 2010. Unless you are trying to say that there was no cost of living crisis and the NHS was running like a dream when Boris and Rishi Sunak were in office? Have a quick Google as to when all those issues became prominent in the media. Adam Kay was NHS doctoring back in the Blair days and it had already begun to go to shit.

That's a desperate response! Mps have always been fair game for name calling. Why is it different now?

Yes that same term has been used by a few on here for other politicians.

Labour have just set the precedent.

Technically the PM doesn’t have to be an MP. So a party could dispense with the by election and just appoint someone to the House of Lords. That person can then become PM. Imagine that.

Not at all. You’ve been quoted with some below. It’s not that hard to read the post. Are you just raging over Starmer going?

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2026 17:49

are you applying that same sanctimony to every voter and their criticism to every politician? It wouldn't be a hard job to break down how much disproportionate name calling Farage and Reform have faced. Who is the party who is currently in the most danger?

Greenleavesandsunshine · 18/07/2026 17:54

CagneyLacey · 18/07/2026 17:50

Labour have just set the precedent.

It has happened before several times, this is in no way a new precedent. Douglas-Home did something similar in 1963. ( I think it was 63).

CagneyLacey · 18/07/2026 17:56

Och, none of this matters, really.

Burnham will not have enough time to prove anything. Starmer squandered two years on self indulgent policies which were contrary to Labour’s manifesto for growth. It’s too late to change that.

Burnham has truly been handed a poisoned chalice.

Can’t see it- so the list please.

All Kemi Badenoch does is diss from the sidelines any attempts to put right the shit her party left when they were too cowardly to even try to do anything themselves. She offers zilch as regards policies or plans.

She can’t keep doing that forever.

I have to say all this resurrecting of thatcher and the falklands has been a bit depressing!

I guess a large proportion of the population don’t remember the 70’s but I’ve certainly never had it described to me as a golden age to aspire to!

You had to be there 😄

Excellent point, we have had several cabinet members from the Lords recently. The Tories did it with Cameron has Foreign Secretary, I winced at the democratic deficit but he was the best person for the job at the time. This Labour government has also done it with a few junior ministers.

A PM from the Lords would really get people frothing but it is entirely possible.

Of course you can scroll back.

Btw being this mad about Labour failing won’t fix things, who knows maybe Burnham will shine. Maybe.

Greenleavesandsunshine · 18/07/2026 17:58

The 70s had the greatest social mobility this country has ever seen, we are going backwards in ter,s of social mobility now. Certainly, not perfect though.

Three day weeks, rampant unions and winters of discontent? It must be grim where you are if this presses your buttons….

Rampant unions led to improvements in workers rights, do you have sick pay and holiday pay? The unions won them, they weren’t given to you. Strong wage growth, high levels of well paid employment. The music was better as well.
The 70s were not perfect but they did have some things people want now, well paid jobs, social mobility and full employment, better music.

‘Better music’

For goodness sake.

All at a huge cost. Give the unions an inch and they will take a mile. It's always been the same. Burnham is taking us back there. Mick Lynch must be a very happy bunny right now.

Take a mile in what regard? What would they take?

Somesuch · 18/07/2026 18:09

Um where are the plans for the NHS, education? You know the things the majority of us care about.

And how are they reversing the 6-8% reduction to GDP and the 12-18 % business investment caused by Brexit? How are they getting back the loss of hundreds of billions of pounds, the potential hit of roughly £32 billion to £120 billion in annual GDP and up to £46 billion in lost tax revenues?

Seem to be an awful lot of repeals and no meat or plans.
