To be sick to death of Andy Burnham already

I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

Times change. 58% in polls wanted him over Starmer and he has 86% approval rating amongst grass roots members.
Many of us who supported Keir recognised that the fact the public didn't was a huge problem. Keir would have needed a magic wand to have a chance of turning the tide in his favour.
Yes it's served Burnham's personal ambition. But I think right now what's good for Burnham is good for Labour, and hopefully the country.
I'm sad that you feel the need to leave the party over this. I hope that Burnham exceeds your expectations and you can one day change your mind.

I live in the SE. I see no signs of the govt spunking money in my area.

We still have pisspoor roads*, schools in need of extensive refurbishment, homelessness, chronic shortage of social housing, high house prices and private rents, long waiting lists for hospital treatment and areas of significant deprivation. Despite a lot of housing being built and consequent increase in population, there hasn't been a new school built in my county since Blair was PM.

• and I don't mean just potholes, although they are dreadful. E Sussex is one of the few English counties with no motorways and the 3 major trunk routes are mostly single carriageway. W Sussex is a little better, 15-20 miles of motorway and more dual carriageways.

He wasn’t here long! It was a token offering from Corbyn, having beaten him in the leadership election. Corbyn made Burnham leave Westminster!

Brexit was decades in the making. And ultimately the EU caused it with their intransigence.

I think it’s necessary to take a step back to see just how grotesque the situation is, and how desperate and fundamentally inept Labour MPs are. They have a 400+ majority, and yet, when replacing their leader, they had to call upon the William of Orange of the North to save them, with no contest and not even a clear political agenda being articulated.

Burnham has no democratic mandate, yet he promises the most significant changes in 40 years. As no one knows what these are, he then reassures the audience, thank God, that he has a plan, without any indication of what that plan is.

If giving a blank cheque to a man who was not even elected when Labour won its majority, who is known mostly for buses running on time, and who has not articulated any meaningful policy is not desperation, I don't know what is.

Labour has covered itself in shame.

Fortunately we’ve only got a couple of years of Burnham. He won’t stick around to lead in opposition as that would be beneath him. Hopefully we’ll then find a decent party leader that the members will actually choose. Let Andy have a go (as he obviously feels entitled to it) and then we can all move on.

In fact @CagneyLacey I think there's quite a few Labour voters who know this but are saving face. There could be a mix of those wanted Starmer to stay and those who have locally benefitted from Burnham's grandiose mayoral scheme. Then there's the middle ground who can't believe what has happened to their party and so soon after a relatively huge win, but are putting 100p per cent into Burnham as a last chance saloon option. When you're in opposition it's so easy to point the finger.

For the rest of us, Burnham won a single, cynically-engineered by-election and has gone from being Mayor of Manchester to PM announcing a 'policy blitz'. And we had a say in this how?

Now he states that wants to take us back to the 1970s, and that he wants to nationalise some sectors. Does anyone remember, for example, British Rail? The unions? The strikes?

Two-tier, two-year Starmer was a complete failure, desperately searching for a legacy in his dying days. Burnham will meanwhile find his pipe-dream plans to be undeliverable and derided. He is parochial when we need national and international.

I very rarely agree with Trump, but, he’s right, Burnham is a nobody. He'll be found out soon enough.

He had the chance, he had the platform.

He has evaded that, apparently in respect of Starmer. After Monday, there's no hiding.

Yesterday wasn't about setting anything out.

Fortunately his project seems to be unravelling already. He is either astonishingly naive or blindly optimistic if he thinks he can hold together the fragile labour coalition.
