I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

And then we looked at the record breaking temperatures, the many resulting deaths and we wondered why the protests against net zero policies.

He probably wouldn't care for my accent either. So what.

I've never seen it reported that he comments negatively on other people's accents.

I think what did for Labour was an illegal war in Iraq (Blair) followed by the banking crisis of 2008 (Brown). Not their policies per se.

Their subsequent dalliance with Corbyn and all the antisemitism that accompanied that kept them out even longer than they would have been otherwise.

Cameron, leader of the opposite 2005 until his PM post in 2010 and years of being an MP prior.

He was a key figure in the Blair / Brown project and then served in Corbyn’s shadow cabinet. People’s memories are very short (which is probably a good thing for Burnham)

It is no secret that he has wanted to be PM for decades. He was repeatedly rejected by the Labour membership and so he plotted and schemed and backstabbed to get there. Manchester was just a stepping stone and he abandoned his job as mayor as soon as the opportunity to grab power arose. He always looked out of his depth in cabinet positions and was certainly promoted well beyond his abilities. Shame on the spineless Labour MPs for ushering him - the Labour membership, let alone the general public, deserved better.

It's a far cry with how long it took Thatcher to get her seat in Finchley. I agree with @Gloriia something is very wrong here. Yes, times change but why always in favour of men?

I think the driving force has been that many of the PLP think they should get a good job in the new administration. The facts are there are not going to be enough roles to go around. The opposite of the Tories where we don't even know who some of the shadow ministers are.

The article states that Burnham is expected to uphold the manifesto commitment not to issue new licences but to honour existing ones.

So if it’s Rosebank & Jackdaw, that would not be a manifesto breach, as they were approved in 2022/23
