To be sick to death of Andy Burnham already

1000 replies

Viviennemary · 17/07/2026 20:57

I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

I think sometimes assumptions are made that every Labour inclined person will agree with every Labour policy. It is a bit odd given most Labour folk on here have been critical of various policies from day one.

Sometimes people post this kind of thing but it’s not surprising.

Labour will push drilling and it will filter onto here, it already has below.

Sure, but Burnham is the one who has made the big play of not copying the Tories or Reform. It was a key part of his coronation speech. So this policy exposes him immediately for what he is.

He did. I don’t get how he can say that line when he and Labour MPs voted through Mahmood’s policies last week.

You can’t go from refugees welcome to hardline policies whilst claiming you don’t want to out Reform reform etc. It doesn’t stack up.

Last an MP nearly a decade ago. Do you really not think he should have current or even recent on the job experience of being an MP before being given the job of Prime Minister? I hope you didn't ever work in recruitment.

Once again for those at the back. None of the top team in 1997, 2010 or 2024 had any Cabinet experience. Burnham has over a decade of parliamentary experience and held three Cabinet appointments. But apparently that’s less relevant than the experience of a backbencher first elected in 2025. I hope you never worked in recruitment either.

I just find it odd he thinks the wrong turn was taken 40 years ago when wrong turns started to be taken a good ten years before and the steerage seems to have been off since

I just hope he looks to the future rather than the past

You look to the future by learning lessons from the past. I’m hoping that’s why he is making the references to Thatcher et al now.

So you knew every poster's stance on drilling before today?

What has Burnham actually announced? I haven't caught up yet.

Hence a question not a statement to the pp asking if they had posted. They were against but hadn’t said so which is fine.

There will be more Labour pushing it and those adamantly against when it was the other parties will probably go quiet on any opposition.

Yes. Someone mentioned ex-mining communities. I am originally from one of those communities which was decimated by Thatcherism and is suffering to this very day. So it is still relevant and important to learn lessons.

Hangover from the Johnson time when posters/MPs defended everything he did.

And it doesn't require a lot of thinking to throw these kind of assumptions.

I don't think so. For example, there has been plenty of opposition to Mahmood's policies on here because of the parallels with Tories/Reform policy. I am sure you read the "Starmer" threads where Labour supporters often don't agree with each other and/or with Labour policies.

Same goes for Starmer. Although they kind of did him in in the end, it put people off.

It’s a bit Farage heavy to stick with tbf.

But no I’m on a thread about immigration and apart from a small no when asked directly re Mahmood’s policies there isn’t opposition from pro Labour. I expect drilling will be the same.

Can I just point out that eight members of Keir Starmer's 2024 cabinet had previous ministerial experience, including three who had previously served in full cabinet.

You’re right. Thank you for pointing that out. It still doesn’t negate the point that the majority didn’t. Including Starmer.

KatiePricesKnickers · 18/07/2026 12:24

It’s good for him to announce more North Sea oil drilling.
It’s not like we are consuming any less oil just because we are buying it from Norway.
He may as well get some tax receipts and it’s easier to get it now while we still have the equipment available.
Also a policy impossible for other parties to object to, apart from the fringe nut job Greens.

ohdelay · 18/07/2026 12:26

BermudaRhombus · 18/07/2026 11:30

Which is completely contrary to the manifesto commitment. Therein we see the problem. The government has argued vociferously against more drilling for the last couple of years and it’s a position supported by the members who voted on the policies in the manifesto and the public at the last election.

And then the lights nearly went out on June 23rd and they gave their heads a collective wobble and stopped actively self harming the country. I'm here for it and can support common sense over ideology.

I gave that as an example. It is far from the only one. But I will let you have the last word as is your wont and it makes you happy. I like to make folk happy.☺️

Yes but for labour ,he needs to look at why they have been unpalatable since Blair /brown surely ? They were in power for a decade weren't they ? Plenty of time to get change in and improve lives so what happened in Blair and brown tenure that causes labour to be out in the wilderness ...surely that's the period he should be looking at ?

A good starting point would be brown to Gillian Duffy / biggot. Thornberry and her white van man at the same time as white van man was buried under a sea of cheaper eastern European work putting him out of business etc.

What did Labour do for all those areas he spoke of when they were in power ?
Why did they turn from labour to farage ? And Tory ? That's the time period he should be drilling down into.

This is why I don't trust him or them.

So as I thought, nothing to do with my post which you quoted.

So as I thought just a sneering post from you on someone with a regional accent.
How sad an adult has to stoop so low.

  • and he can right the wrongs of Thatcher and use our oil like Norway for the public purse.

He can also expand his transparent policy from Hillsborough to the grooming gangs enquiry and I look forward to that.

Well no what makes me happy is not engaging at all, but since you quoted the poster referring to my posts as usual, I responded. On future threads if you can avoid entirely then great let’s do it.

You didn't have to engage with my post, you chose to which is absolutely fine. MNHQ allows us to post freely within Talk Guidelines and I will continue to do so and won't "avoid entirely" anything.

Why though? What’s the point, you then get annoyed that I respond or ‘last word’. Just avoid if you don’t want that.
