I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

Waking up to positive news from Andy Burnham potentially announcing north sea drilling plans. If he can make more common sense decisions for the general good of the country I'll be happy. I will support anything that makes sense, actions not words.

Which is completely contrary to the manifesto commitment. Therein we see the problem. The government has argued vociferously against more drilling for the last couple of years and it’s a position supported by the members who voted on the policies in the manifesto and the public at the last election.

And he was a sitting MP for over a decade and held three Cabinet jobs. Suggestions of lack of experience are risible. He’s far more politically experienced than Starmer was in 2024.

You misunderstand. I already understood the legality so the repetition is patronising. I have not shared with you how I feel. I have factually set out that Andy Burnham has declared mid-term PM appointments to have no mandate.

Let’s look at where money is wasted and cut back. Just a few ideas:

NHS - billions wasted here possibly due to bad management of resources.

Benefits - crack down on those who don’t need it. Means test all benefits including the state pension. Stronger tests on eligibility. Give benefits assessors more confidence to do their jobs thoroughly and make proper checks.

Utilities and transport- profit for people rather than shareholders.

Crack down on greedy landlords charging extortionate rent.

Then focus on building the economy - manufacturing goods and creating jobs.

Lastly tax those who greedily hoard billions whilst the majority struggle. They really don’t need any more yachts!!

Most normal hardworking people who do not come from money are asking to be able to afford a modest life. That’s it.

Last an MP nearly a decade ago. Do you really not think he should have current or even recent on the job experience of being an MP before being given the job of Prime Minister? I hope you didn't ever work in recruitment.

It wasn't a throw away opinion on his voice at all. It was meant as a sneering degrading opinion on his accent. There is a big difference.
You can disagree with his politics but when you start making personal comments like that then you have lost the arguement and display your basic lack of debating skills.

I have absolutely no idea why you're claiming the moral high ground.

I don’t see how Mahmood’s policies aren’t a direct response to Reform and trying to claim that ground.

I think sometimes assumptions are made that every Labour inclined person will agree with every Labour policy. It is a bit odd given most Labour folk on here have been critical of various policies from day one.

Sure, but Burnham is the one who has made the big play of not copying the Tories or Reform. It was a key part of his coronation speech. So this policy exposes him immediately for what he is.
