To be sick to death of Andy Burnham already

I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

If that's true, I'm very pleased. Her childhood was extremely deprived and that certainly wasn't her fault. Like Alan Johnson whose childhood also had Victorian levels of poverty and deprivation, it's amazing that they could both beat the odds of their deprived childhoods to become Ministers in a Labour government.

That is part of the problem. He has talked and made speeches but has not given us any information.
He says he is going to change politics. But not said how.
He has made speeches but not allowed the press to ask questions about the speech.
If his government is going to be different than Starmer's then he should hold a General Election to see if that is what we, the people want.

But he’s not working class. Posh and middle class are not the same. I’m from a working class background, went to a comp, had free school meals, grew up in a Northern city, have a Northern accent….but it would be ridiculous for me to describe myself as working class. I am educated to post-graduate level (although not Oxbridge like Burnham), have worked in professional services for almost all of my career and live in comfortable detached house with a child at one of the highest performing state schools in the country.

I hate the obsession with class which has been a focus of the current Government. It’s so devisive and people don’t fit into neat little boxes. Andy Burnham is a great example of that. So am I. My cousin can still argue that he is working class because he is a sparkie but he has out earned me for most of my career as a solicitor. If I am to earn any respect for Andy Burnham, he needs to unite the country and I have seen no evidence of that so far.

I am OK with Andy Burnham and giving him a shot as long as he picks the right team. Starmer didn’t.

Also as a Londoner my income taxes already subsidise the rest of the country so if he wants more taxes for us, then they need to go on social housing here and fixing Thames Water. Thames Water is a big problem the constant burst mains cost the whole economy and house prices here are already too high and there aren’t enough children left. I am pro devolution but London needs to be able to keep what we kill. If anything we subsidise too much already and not the other way round.
And I am OK with Parliament sitting in different parts of the country. There has been abuse of the wine cellar etc and we could use Westminster for other stuff anyway - tourism, film sets etc etc I don’t like the rarefied privilege of Central Government and the spectacle of it. It can be simplified.

He is an incumbent with big challenges and a chance to prove himself. I'll give him a chance to ahem, shine.

However I'm afraid I can't help thinking "musical chairs", and wonder who will replace him on a challenge before the next election.

Whatever about domestic issues, and he should be fair to all where possible, it is in Foreign Policy and ability to make and keep friends abroad that will be important too these days.

My position remains - appointing people simply because they're old muckers (even if clearly unqualified for the role) does not auger well for ‘The King of the North’.

I’ve met Angela Rayner on several occasions, she’s not thick. She has a Northern Working Class accent, which I’m afraid some people still equate with intelligence.

I also know Andy Burnham, he has great vision, passion, and is a really bright & intelligent man. The Right-Wing media will be trying to obliterate him (of course), but they underestimate him at thier peril

The latest news is that Burnham will make a good start with Trump - he's going to drill, baby, drill.
