You have really disappointed me. I never realised how much you have hatred in your heart.

Fortunately, I'm not on the look out to gain validation.

Daafdjdnd · 16/07/2026 20:35

All the stuff we want can be kept with domestic legislation.

Rubbish. I don’t trust any Government except maybe Labour who have recently strengthened our employment rights to do the right thing and keep our hard won, union won rights.

Both Reform and the Tories are happy to get rid of the EHCR. We already had Farage telling us that young people earn too much on the minimum wage and Kemi going on about how we need to reduce maternity leave and benefits.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/07/2026 21:16

Oh good lord the poll and the replies!

No, we absolutely shouldn’t leave the ECHR.

It’s vital that citizens should always have an international court to resort to if our own country gets it wrong.

Similar countries do well without this. They top the human rights tables and citizens are happy with the set up.

MaturingCheeseball · 16/07/2026 21:25

This is getting ridiculous. 18 family members! I saw another judge ruled that in some cultures “family” does not necessarily mean blood relations and can include friends and business associates!

Parliament should be not be able to be superseded by activist judges.

SuffolkSun · 16/07/2026 21:26

Daafdjdnd · 16/07/2026 21:20

Lol. You only enforce international law if you ratify the treaty and implement it into domestic law. You can't force a country to obey it.

India (where I'm from ancestrally) isn't a party to the refuge convention. I read about it. They just detain, deport regardless of how much the applicant whines about it.

The ECHR has been incorporated into English Law since 1998.

Why are you wittering on about India?

Yes but the bleeding heart libs won't be offering to take in more, when they come. It's a total pisstake with the family extension.

Not racist, but I draw the line at calling anybody like Herbert, human. I'm not sure why you've brought race into it.

Saying "Sub human species'' is the very test of someone who is racist.

There's players on the England team who are subjected to that sort of abuse daily.

CatsLikeBoxes · 16/07/2026 21:27

LuckyHazelFox · 16/07/2026 20:55

Of course they can. I don't know why it's presumed we would suddenly be left without any protection.

Employment rights benefit average people (who don't necessarily understand the implications of what they are voting for / are so keen on 1 concept they ignore other policies of the party they vote for)

A lack of employment rights benefits business / business owners - these people have the power to lobby government and influence what happens.

The majority of ordinary people have more protection by having these laws outside the reach of domestic governments, and very few people would be better off we lost these rights.

Daafdjdnd · 16/07/2026 21:30

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 16/07/2026 21:10

. Serious criminals should have their human rights forfeited when they take another person's life

No. Humans don't stop being human just because they've done terrible things.

We could ask the same of you if you would still be in favour if one of your family members was a victim

Absolutely. Humans don't cease being human and having humanity just because something awful happens to them or someone they care about.

They executed the top Nazis. I'm happy with that

Don't like or love anything by me again on the football thread. I feel violated.

Lavender14 · 16/07/2026 21:30

Whatdidyoujustcallme · 16/07/2026 20:22

Yes. Let’s lose all equality, employment and right to a fair trial stuff! Who needs it - employers can hire and fire at will, you can fuck off with your maternity pay, in fact, forget your job, I don’t need a moody mummy asking for flexible working, or days off to look after her brats. Get rid of that silly PACE stuff, just lock em all up. If they say it wasn’t them, persuade a confession. No need for redundancy pay, or sick pay, or a minimum wage, or reasonable hours. No need for rights to a private life, who needs that?

You know when lots of silly people voted to leave the EU? And the same silly people are only just realising that they can no longer move their family to Benidorm and get a job and live there, or retire there because their income isn’t high enough?

That. You cannot cherry pick which bits of civilisation you like and ditch the bits you don’t. ECHR is international law, not just the EU you silly billy.

Exactly this^

You realise that if we leave EHRC you are essentially giving up your own human rights protections in order to take them from someone else? It is literally the definition of cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Just because you haven't had to use it yet doesn't mean it's not working in your favour in the background.

Whose test? Not mine. I refuse to humanise anybody who behaves the way Herbert did. He certainly dehumanised Ann Widdecombe.

AImportantMermaid · 16/07/2026 21:31

Sweet suffering fuck. Can we stop leaving things when we don’t know what they actually do? Look at the mess Brexit left. Do we really want to go through more shite like that?

Why are you using the horrific killing of a woman in her 70s as a template for hatred?

Pedallleur · 16/07/2026 21:14

Would that be taking back control as we were told Brexit would do for us. How has that worked out?

Failed implementation by the politicians. Should have left echr a long time ago as well

Daafdjdnd · 16/07/2026 21:36

SaySomethingMan · 16/07/2026 21:20

People were falling over themselves ( some still are) to help Ukrainians because of the war. There is no such thing for Gazans afaik. What’s wrong with them being able to come here under humanitarian rules when their home is a war zone, whose roots can be traced clearly to Britain and the ongoing war included British weapons?

Why should the average British citizen have to suffer?

SuffolkSun · 16/07/2026 21:37

catspyjamas1 · 16/07/2026 20:49

Why can't the UK have its own equivalent law(s)?

Ofgs.

Employment rights, legal rights, family life rights, human rights are all UK laws. Enacted by Parliament. Enacted BECAUSE OF obligations we agreed to when we signed the ECHR.

It's not difficult to find information about this, but so few people bother to do so before wading in with their comments.

Seriously 😣

How is it ridiculous, Gaza is a war zone!

good, I’m glad we were able to offer a safe haven for people that are living in fear and having their rights eroded daily.

How many Gazans should we take? We have people living on the streets, families in hostels. We cannot afford to take any more people.
Every day in one way or another I get told by tv, newspaper, social media that I don't deserve my pension increase because the country can't afford it, I've contributed for 50 years and I'm no longer willing to pay for people who haven't and will never pay into this country.

Daafdjdnd · 16/07/2026 21:39

avilsdedvocate · 16/07/2026 21:22

No, people who have committed crimes are still human.
What did this family do to you exactly?

Were you all in uproar when Ukrainians were coming over, housed, benefits etc etc... or is it just white people that get human rights?

Ukrainians are more culturally compatible. And it's only women and kids coming. Men are still fighting.

Unimplement it. India have 0 refugee programmes or right to apply for asylum.

Too many people would happily vote to tear up their own rights is it was presented to them as a way of making foreigners go away.

OK, so at least you’re being crysral clear that you don’t believe in democracy, and that British people are fundamentally too evil and stupid to be entrusted with the right to choose a Government that can set the law of the land.

Am I wrong?
