To think that if a man doesnt see his child for a period of 14 days (bar exceptional circumstances/agreed holidays/court agreed schedules) then they should lose parental responsibility?

Saw a woman online who cant take her 4 kids on holiday as their dad refuses to give permission, despite him not seeing the kids or paying maintenance

'Equality for dads' has really served to oppress women further

But the thread title specifically states exceptional circumstances

Ditch the glue yourself and read again

No matter WHAT the circumstances, whether he is hospitalised/in a coma, (for a month to 6 weeks,) or just inter-railing around Europe (for a month to 6 weeks,) to suggest a man loses the right to see his OWN CHILD, if they're unavailable for 2 weeks in a ludicrous idea!

You are clearly projecting massively - with your own bad experiences of men, but that doesn't give you the right to suggest we punish all men for virtually nothing!

Ok, initially you seemed stricter:
(bar exceptional circumstances/agreed holidays/court agreed schedules)

What I listed were none of what you listed.

Summer camps and family holidays are agreed holidays but iswym

men would have to go to court to prove there are reasons that they shouldn't be stripped of their PR if a woman applies to have it removed, under such a policy

It’s a batshit policy that can be used against mothers like me. Parental responsibility isn’t predicated on 24/7 parental presence.

She could have paid £200 for a specific issue order - which would be affordable for anyone with the means to take four kids abroad. I wouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet….

This. I think it’s £262 and would enable her to take her kids abroad for three weeks without his permission.

So a man can just not bother parenting, bar such an agreed arrangement (such as: dad is in the army and cannot physically be there) but keep their PR??

Do you not like women? Do you enjoy seeing them be oppressed?

Legally making women the default parent by adding an automatic get out of parenting free card to any father who goes camping for two weeks isn’t going to liberate women, it will make women even more oppressed.

I dont think it is

Sending your kids to boarding school is obviously something supported in your circles and I dont have anything against you

In others, it would be judged harshly

But what you do is obviously pre agreed between you and their other parent (if that applies). Thats the agreed circumstances I refer to in the title

Noones gonna strip Prince William of his PR because George is at Eton?!

Should a man not be arsed to parent his kid like their mother does - he should lose his rights to them. When he steps up and becomes a present dad, he can apply to have them back.

That doesn’t really work as a SM sob story though does it?! Grin

BabblingBiddy · 16/07/2026 19:37

I think there should be a system in place for RPs (mums or dads) to have PR removed from the absent parent (mum or dad). But 2 weeks is ridiculous.

And if there is a system for that then it needs to be more widely known about.

Really child-focussed that. Not.

Going camping for two weeks is an agreed holiday isnt it

Should i decide to go camping for two weeks and not bother about my dd, she'd be left alone and she'd be taken off me! As she bloody well should!

what are your circumstances @hotmumshit ? Children? Not with their dad?

usererror99 · 16/07/2026 19:40

I agree OP but not 14 days more like 28 days. My ex husband went nearly a year without seeing our 3 children and yet I still had to get him to sign a permission slip to take them on holiday. It’s ridiculous. He pays no CMS barely sees them but I have to go cap in hand to ask for permission!

TBH they should just remove the rule about requiring permission from all parents who have parental responsibility- or it should be electronic ie something on the passport site that emails the details to the other parent - they have 28 days to give permission or provide compelling evidence as to why the trip shouldn’t be allowed or permission is automatically given

hotmumshit · 16/07/2026 19:40

titchy · 16/07/2026 19:39

Yes it is - it'll force dads to step up and make sure theyre visiting and parenting their child at least once every 14 days

Dont even get me started on child maintenance 😒

One child, sole parental responsibility

This is a decent idea re the permission

Would you want the kids dad to see them more?

See i wouldnt, but there are women who could really do with the break

Even if its two hours every two weeks, this could help mothers and ensure kids see their dads!

How will it? So they lose their PR? So what? What impact do you imagine that will have on fathers? It won’t change their behaviour.

Cevita · 16/07/2026 19:44

hotmumshit · 16/07/2026 19:20

You get a grip and stop trying to suppress womens discussion.

You have accused one poster of being on glue

here you tell someone to “get a grip” and that they are suppressing women

another poster you accuse of “not liking” women and also trying to suppress them

It is all very hyperbolic and you don’t seem able to have a reasonable discussion.

You have no skin in the game. You are a single parent. Does that mean your ex isn’t like this?

Booboobagins · 16/07/2026 19:44

I think there should be much closer supervision of visitation ES missed visitation and non payment. I'm not saying 14 days is correct, but several months is def an issue. The woman in your example should go to court. Her ex is being an AH, what sort of parent is he? The kids would be better off without thinking he might one day visit them!

ineedaheronow · 16/07/2026 19:45

hotmumshit · 16/07/2026 19:17

Shes saying she can't and it just wasnt possible

Apparently she couldn't even order new passports, despite him holding them hostage

The poor kids tbh

She could.

She didn’t want to

WillThingsEverBeFergaliciousAgain · 16/07/2026 19:45

Maybe not 14 days, I would calculate it a minimum period of time over a year.

My ex has a court order preventing me from moving and changing the kids school, which I will be doing shortly when I downsize home. However he gets that bit of control over me and gets to know my circumstances and he hasn't seen the kids for over 2 years, and is ridiculously behind in maintenence too.

These men often want to retain control with no responsibility and use the legal system to do it, and its bullshit.

Okay..

So they lose their PR and the mother is free to move on with her life and her children

I don’t know about your suggestion OP, but I do think that if a parent decides to essentially not allow their coparent to take their joint children out of the country they should have a bloody good reason to say no, and I mean a legit reason, not an excuse they pulled from their arse as a means to be difficult and controlling. Having said that, I’m pretty sure either parent can go to family court to resolve these issues. I’m sure there was a mention of this type of scenario in my court documents from when my ex and I were thrashing out contact.
