It means you can’t have a job that involves travel.

Well no - cus my husbands ex moved the child to a different country (he gave permission reluctantly as she was miserable and wanted to go back with her parents / family in hometown!

so he only saw his child in school holidays and sporadic visits over there throughout the year !

Mums in such a circumstance are rarely let off the way that men are - there are typically harsh social consequences for a mother abandoning her child for weeks on end

I agree in principal but it would of have to be much longer. 6months to a year I would say and when you still need to apply to remove rights with time for the other parent to appeal etc etc. So still a massive hassle.

There is however already a system in place to stop the exact circumstances in your op. She needs to get a court order allowing her to go abroad.

To be fair to the OP, 14 days is no more batshit than a dad who doesn’t see his kids or pay maintenance (assuming both are his choice) being able to prevent their mother from taking those same kids on holiday.

• sent my kids to boarding school
• sent my kids to summer camps of 6-8 weeks (US summers are 12 weeks)
• sent my kids to stay with family abroad for a month at a time
• gone away myself for work up to three months at a time.

No harsh social consequences. Actually no one has dared breathe that I am a shit mum. Usually it’s the opposite that I’m a wonderful role model for my daughters, that they are so lucky to have the opportunities the income from my career gives them, that they are privileged to get an amazing education, that they are lucky to be able to jet off to foreign countries to stay with other family members, that they have an inspiring mother who is killing in in a male dominated career…etc etc.

So many mums doing all of the parenting whilst the man exercises 'his rights' by popping in when he feels like it
