Primary school asking parents to not change Nappies in the toilet

My 5 year old is sen in a mainstream until he transitions to specialist in September. He's toilet trained at home but requires nappies at school/outdoors due to anxiety over using the toilet.
He goes into school 5 mins after gates close as he's an escape risk. This past week just as we've entered the gates he's done a poop, so I've taken him into the reception "accessible" toilet, changed him, bagged the waste and placed it into the bin. I obviously don't want to hand him over full of poop!
Just received this pedantic email (attached in comments) which will have gone to all parents. I'm quite annoyed as my their suggestion of staff escorting parents to another toilet. My son cannot access the main school and is in a segregated area with full time 1-1. Plus I'd have to faff around getting a sign in badge. Reception are aware he's sen and only has one week left before moving schools after summer.
I spoke to his 1-1 about it and we're convinced it's aimed at us and one other parent who's baby goes on the school run.

AIBU to feel like emailing them suggesting they place a nappy bin in the toilet, buy some air fresheners and maybe get a better sealed door if the smell travels the much?

Of course you can't put nappies (including bags) in the sani bin. They contain chemicals to break down period pads and tampons, not plastic bags and nappies for 5 year olds.

They have not said don't change a nappy in the toilets.

They have said please change a nappy in the appropriate place because it poses a hazard if you dump and run in the place that is convenient for you.

That's reasonable. You need to work out a solution that doesn't create issues with disposal for the school. Just because it's more convenient for you is not acceptable. It's disgusting, especially in this weather to dump nappies in just the bin.

Well they should provide a nappy bin then imo. It's not feasible for my son to enter parts of the school due to sen. Last time he escaped his 1-1 and gate crashed PE they excluded him for 6 days

I don’t see an issue with you changing him there but you should have taken the nappy with you. They shouldn’t go into sanitary bins, they’re for pads and tampons.

Yes it probably is aimed at you, if you left a dirty nappy in a bin in hot weather. Who did you think would deal with that, the bin fairy? What would you have preferred, a personal email?

I can't believe you are arguing this rather than being mortified that you made the washroom stink for everyone and wondering why you didn't think to bring the nappy with you to put in a more suitable bin.

Our GP surgery don't allow you to put nappies in any of their bins, even the ones in the toilets. They insist you take them home.

Yeah, sorry I don't mean to add to the pile on, but yeah, you shouldn't be leaving the poopy nappy there. Fair enough to change him there, but take the nappy home again, or put it in a nappy bin. Don't stuff it in the sanitary bin. No-one is having a go at your kid; it's the adult who needs to behave a bit better.

What's stopping you putting the nappy into your bag and disposing of it in your household waste, rather than leaving it for somebody in Reception or Facilities to have to dig up out of a bin designed for (and probably containing) used tampons and towels and take across the school to a bin designated for them?

Take it home with you then. This isn’t newborn or toddler poop. He is 5. You’re being really out of order putting it into the bin in the reception area toilet and leaving them with that smell all day, especially in the heat.

YABU Just use the the bathroom with the correct bin in it. Their email was polite enough. They aren't even saying not to change nappies there. Just to use a more suitable area.

I think it will relate to the frequency the sanitary bin is emptied too. So a suitable bin is better

Why can't you change him and take the bag with you?
