AIBU to be put off after he poured wine on the floor?

2nd date, sat in restaurant and we each had a glass of wine. He commented that he wasn’t keen on the wine and said he’d get a soft drink next time. I finished my drink and he had half of his glass left so I said I was going to get another drink and did he want to get a soft drink now or was he going to finish his wine. He picked up the glass, tipped the wine onto the floor (!!!!!!) and said “finished” and laughed. Several people saw him do it. I was mortified and said “did you really just tip that onto the floor??” And he acted like he was a bit embarrassed but laughed and said he didn’t like it. Waitress came across, noticed the puddle on the floor and he laughed and said “sorry about that” whilst looking at me like he was expecting me to laugh.

after the date he messaged me saying he’d had a good time and asked if I had and I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

am I over reacting?? It’s really put me off

Ah yes. If your dinner companion tips half a glass of wine on the restaurant floor, you can be sure that the next thing they will do it seize their table knife and run helter skelter around the restaurant because all their fellow diners are jedi.

I literally think that someone pouring their wine on the floor does sound like someone in psychosis. Though he clearly wasn't as with hindsight he has complete recollection and no remorse.

I don't know why you think Jedi are necessarily involved?

Have you ever been present when someone is suffering acute psychosis before?

Member968405 · 14/07/2026 16:21

This reminds of one of my sister’s boyfriends, from years ago. We went to the bar together and I got out a £10 note, and said ‘Let’s split it’, meaning the round. He said ‘ok then’ and ripped the note in half.

so so annoying and unnecessary. Red flag imo!

tealandteal · 14/07/2026 16:24

Even my 4 year old knows better! Don’t waste any more time on him

I have. My mother's.

Bin off this arsehole, he sounds like a toddler. It's probably a red flag that he'll be horrible in other ways. I always think the way people treat waiting staff is a sign of their character, and he clearly didn't care about deliberately creating mess for someone else to clean up.

He's an embarrassment, would put me right off.

Unacceptable behaviour, chucking wine on the floor just because he didn't want to finish it? What a dickhead, he's also just made extra work for the staff...prick. I would not see him again and I'd be telling him exactly why. Who in their right mind would think that's acceptable behaviour? Unless you're under the age of 3 of course.

Boreded · 14/07/2026 16:27

I’d have left there and then

Lexy2345 · 14/07/2026 16:27

What a child. Bullet dodged, well and truly.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 14/07/2026 16:27

He doesn't sound right in the head. Dump him.

SqueakyFromme · 14/07/2026 16:30

Why are you even asking OP ? imagine if it had been carpet, what an awful thing to do. I would NEVER speak to him again.

I have. My mother's.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's really scary isn't it? For the sufferer and those around them. I hope she's better now?

Frenzi · 14/07/2026 16:32

I'd have got up and walked out as soon as he did it.

What an idiot.

This. No way would I see him
again.

FrustratedApples · 14/07/2026 16:34

Run. Don't look back.

IndigoBrave · 14/07/2026 16:35

I couldn’t see past this. He’s showing you how inconsiderate he is about other people i.e. who cares if someone has to wipe that up

GrinchPink · 14/07/2026 16:36

Jesus that’s proper weird… why would anyone do that.
Also how disrespectful to the staff that work there…
its a no for me ❌😵

TicklishMintDuck · 14/07/2026 16:36

I think I would have struggled to continue with the evening after that.

PussyGaylore · 14/07/2026 16:37

Very disrespectful- bin him.

DidYeAye16 · 14/07/2026 16:37

Were you on a date with drop dead fred?

It makes me know for a fact that he'll pee on the seat and the floor and leave it there.

He'll go through life making literal and metaphorical messes and assuming it's up to the nearest woman to clean them up. Run, OP.

It is scary. Thank-you for asking about her. She died many years ago.

Whatthefork1 · 14/07/2026 16:40

What strange behaviour from a full grown man, assuming he is of course. Definitely not over reacting. He has no respect. Ditch him pronto.
