I'm half Scottish (dad) so always support both. In the past I'd probably want Scotland to win if it was them against England to be honest. Although now because of the Argentina support I'm going off supporting Scotland.

I desperately want England to win this one more than against any other team.

I actually couldn't care less who Scottish people choose to support or not. I'm not even a passionate supporter of England, as I'm not a football fan. (Though as my DH is following the team I do get into it a little bit! 🤣)

The Scots (and Welsh) are completely obsessed with England and our football team. The press are obsessed with their fans. They only have to smile and it makes the front pages. Pissed up Scotland fans falling asleep in some poor Yanks garden - the press celebrate it like it’s something really cute. If they raised a bit of money for a charity, you’d think they had cured cancer (btw England do this at every tournament and some qualifiers - but the press rarely say anything - except for Portugal in 2004)

I was delighted when Scotland lost and got sent home, was sick of hearing about them.

You know, if that was really the case, none of this would be as intense. It's really just an escalation of an heated exchange. Most Scots don't support the England team (why should we?) which triggers many entitled fans in England, who believe we should, for some reason. And they say as much, which pisses off us Scots, who are they to lecture us? It's not our team. So we give it back, and then it escalates into calling Scots "bitter" and "Jealous" and Scots calling England fans "arrogant" and "entitled"

You would never see this if a lot of French people, or Polish people were ABE. People in England would shrug, "it's another country, who cares?" And yet, Scotland and Wales are also different countries, but that doesn't seem to count.

It's quite remarkable that many on this thread don't understand that the 'English' and the England that many of us identify with is one of diversity, something that is reflected in the team in contrast to the Scottish team. The narrative about 'the English' is evidently coming from living in monoethnic regions that believe the average English person lives in the same context but we don't so these ideas are alien to us!

A big part of football, cub or international is local rivals. It's perfectly normal for you neighbour to want you to lose. Or be upset if you win. It's that simple.
