Count Binface has a genuine chance against Nigel Farage!

Sounds crazy but…

None of the major parties are competing…

Farage won Clacton with 46% of the vote…

If the 54% united together to vote for Binface, we could have the most preposterous election outcome of all time!

I reckon this could get some genuine momentum… all the other parties would LOVE this result, and even if they didn’t actively campaign for it, would surely quietly be gunning for Binface to win.

Farage is completely pro-establishment.

His only beef is that he believes there is a new rival establish of lanyard wearers in town, and they are interfering with the old establishment of people whose fathers get them jobs in the city.

it's like Game of Thrones.

Er yeap. Clacton is the sort of place that people go to if they think Blackpool is that bit too upmarket. The first thing recommended to do on the Tripadvisor page is to go on a full day tour of Colchester. To be fair I have never actually been, but I have been to Southend and that was a bit of shit hole and I'm told the people of Clacton think Southend is posh,.

There is a very high correlation between people who vote reform and people who choose to live in shit holes.

You do realise that the Clacton constituency covers a fairly large area? I’m in that constituency. It’s actually really nice around here. Glad you haven’t visited and please don’t bother in the future.

The majority of those who voted last time didn’t vote for NF. Those who did are probably, quite rightly, fucked off with with their everyday life and have been sucked in by a guy who, TBF, talks a very good game.

I am gutted we had/have him as our MP. I’m becoming more gutted by the day at this current situation. And I’m fucking pissed off with sweeping, judges posts like your one about the area and its residents. Yes, this is all totes hilarious to loads of people on various SM sites. No, it’s not totes hilarious to many of us who live here.

Sorry, there are probably a number of other posts I could have reacted to, but I settled on your one.

In fairness, Foxes are the natural enemy of bins so it makes sense he would take that stance.

Zwarte Piet is still a thing in the Netherlands.

I don't remember any racism at my 1980s school but that was probably because it was very very white - the bitchy girls in my school found other things to have a go at people about.

It's become much less common to do the full face makeup in the last 10 years or so. In particular, after 2020 and the BLM movement there was more discussion. So you don't get accosted by people in full blackface in shops so much. The children's TV shows are more likely now to go for the "fell down a chimney" aesthetic or a few smudges of soot here and there than a whole face of makeup. Of course l, this has then led to a backlash and some Dutch people making a Point about doing the full face makeup. And the parades have become a fun culture war moment for the warriors of Facebook.
But I do think younger generations are, on the whole, much more cringed out at the full black face than past generations. So it's being slowly replaced with less racist makeup.

Piers Corbyn is anti vaccination and thinks climate change isn't real. I imagine a lot of loopy right wing nutbags who are fed up with Farage might lend him their votes? Not sure how popular Fox is but he is locally based.

The more batshit extremists out there the better it is for the sole voice of sanity : Count Binface!

Someone i know worked at one of the London hospitals which Piers Corbyn and his loony anti vax mates targeted. They had to run the gauntlet of the motley crew yelling "murderers" at stafff going in and out of work.

Oh my. Developments in Ann Widdecombe investigation. Casts a dark shadow over politics at this time.

Doesn't feel right to enjoy the circus.

Waitingfordoggo · 13/07/2026 15:06

I don’t disagree @Topseyt123, I grew up in the late 70s and 80s, and remember comedy candidates always being a thing. But I suppose it’s the fact that there are a whole bunch of unusual candidates all gathered together for this one election that made it seem more ridiculous. And not just the deliberately comic candidates but people who are also comedic by accident like the bloke off MAFs (not that there is anything funny about fighting on a telly show or whatever it is he did, but just the idea of someone like that attempting to be involved in politics is daft.)

But I get that this is no ordinary election so maybe it was always destined to be a nutters’ parade.

You can look at it from the angle of natural consequences. This is the natural consequence of Farage being who and what he is. He brought this election on deliberately and the line up of opponents is everything he deserves.

That fact can be enjoyed very much without being overshadowed by AW's horrific murder. It goes without saying that she did not deserve that.

I'm surprised she ever had any time for him, tbh.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/07/2026 16:42

There was a man known as Screaming Lord Sutch who stood as a protest candidate in multiple elections in the 60s and 70s. It is not a new thing and your parents would have known about him.

Yes @CaptainMyCaptain, my parents knew of him, as do I! I am no spring chicken, sadly.

It’s just that the WHOLE line up is ridiculous for this election. That’s what I find daft. And a colossal waste of money.

I think when I mentioned politics, I’m really talking about the broader picture. The fact that Trump was able to get elected twice in the US. A rich businessman off the telly. The Brexit referendum. The whole Hokey Cokey of new party leaders every five minutes. It just so often feels like a celebrity/popularity thing these days, rather than serious politics. I find myself missing people like John Major, who I wouldn’t have voted for at the time if I had been of voting age. You know, just someone a bit grey, bookish, boring and square. I think this probably relates to my own existential crisis of midlife where I find myself wondering where the grown-ups are.

ntmdino · 13/07/2026 15:22

Much as I love the idea of Farage being taken out by a parody candidate, reality doesn't comply with the hope.

This is Clacton we're talking about, a place where 46% of the electorate voted for Farage. Most of that 46% are overwhelmingly likely to vote the same way, whereas the majority of the other 54% won't bother because it's a joke of a by-election.

@Waitingfordoggo - "I find myself missing people like John Major, who I wouldn’t have voted for at the time if I had been of voting age. You know, just someone a bit grey, bookish, boring and square."

While I agree, I think perhaps what you're really missing is the time when politics was grey, bookish, boring and square - just like it's supposed to be. The electorate has got exactly what it wanted since the Brexit referendum: politics as entertainment resembling reality TV, except with real consequences.

Nobody (apart from politicians) should actively want to talk about politics, yet that's exactly where we are. We, the people, broke it...and that's exactly why we're yet to have a PM from the last decade who's actually managed to last out their term. PMs these days don't even last as long as England football team managers. And we wonder why the country's broken, with no long-term plans...

BIossomtoes · 13/07/2026 15:59

46% of the electorate didn’t vote for Farage. 46% of those who voted did. That means more people voted against him than for him and 42% of the electorate didn’t vote.

QuantumQuibbler · 13/07/2026 16:21

I think if enough comes out about Farage before the election, some of those who voted him in but are now disappointed may not bother. And some of the 'anyone but Farage' contingent will vote for binface as the best chance of getting him out.

I think CB definitely has a chance if he can manage to stay his own man and not become a symbol of lefty nonsense. And I say that as a lefty.

I see where you are coming from the the greyish and square Major but I think that's what some people wanted from Steer Calmly. And I think personally what Labour were trying to portray when they first got into office. Unfortunately that backfired quite badly as it left them without a complete long narrative or anything positive to build on. And any good but boring policies they put in place were overshadowed by the circus elsewhere/events. Unfortunately, I don't think we are in the same times as the early 90s when boring, keeping to a steady path is enough. There does need to be change of some sort. But ironically constantly changing PMs because we want change makes actual change harder

I also don't think binface is likely to win. Butnits part of my August wish list along with England winning the World Cup. Not that I'm assuming either of those things are likely. But they would make the summer.

Agree. He needs to keep being funny basically and the satirical candidate.
That's what I liked about the almost monosyllabic answers he gives in interviews to some questions. Given his long history of running in elections I would say he's more representative of the "pissed of at political nonsense" cohort than the right/left. And there are a lot of them.

Fine.

So, of the people who couldn't be arsed to vote last time when it was an actual general election, how many do you think will suddenly find the motivation to show up to a stunt election?

It's still a real election. Binface raising the profile might get more people out to vote.

I didn't say it wasn't real, I said it wasn't a general election.

Do you actually believe that this by-election will have a higher profile than an entire general election?

I mean, sure. Also, I've got a timeshare to sell you...

If I did, I would have said so. For someone so quick to take offence at what you see as misreading, you're pretty good at making stuff up.

I do however actually believe that Binface has raised the profile of this by election to higher than it would otherwise be <<insert silly comment here>>

BIossomtoes · 13/07/2026 18:49

I think this by-election might achieve a very high turnout. Clacton has had two years of an absent MP who has done nothing for his constituency and who is now mired in financial shit. The chances are high that everyone who doesn’t want him will be motivated to vote him out. Tactical voting is a thing.

IonianNerveGrip · 13/07/2026 18:57

I could see it being higher than usual for a by-election, not necessarily high per se.
