None of the major parties are competing…

Farage won Clacton with 46% of the vote…

If the 54% united together to vote for Binface, we could have the most preposterous election outcome of all time!

I reckon this could get some genuine momentum… all the other parties would LOVE this result, and even if they didn’t actively campaign for it, would surely quietly be gunning for Binface to win.

I'm not sure why people are so bothered about what Nigel Farage might have done as a teenager when there's so much evidence that he's an unpleasant, grifting, corrupt, rabble-rousing, two-faced, misogynistic, irresponsible, thin skinned, deceptive, evasive, irresponsible race-baiting cunt who keeps very dodgy company and who doesn't give a toss about Clacton, working people or anything else except his own enrichment right now. I think it's a bit odd at 16. I was at private school in London in the 80s and although there was bullying further down the school, by that age we were focussed on our own social groups/academics/sport/drama etc. and nobody cared what anyone else was doing.

However, in saying that, I am agreeing that people can mature, grow up and change.

Exactly and let's focus on where there is actual factual evidence of wrongdoing- namely a £5m gift from the Thailand based British cryptocurrency investor and billionaire Christopher Harborne, and that this "gift" was not declared to Parliament.

Rather than whether Farage is a racist, satanist or a Morris Dancer based on one former schoolboy publicly claiming that he once saw Farage come to school with bells around his ankles and subsequently 19 other former pupils also came forward claiming to have seen Farage waving a white handkerchief.

Interesting that even some people in the spectator (hardly a leftie publication) are very much shining a spotlight on that. It is appalling and it ought to be what everyone is talking about

It's worrying how accepting some folk in the UK are of this sort of behaviour. I was at secondary school in the Netherlands in the 80s and there was zero tolerance for racist expressions or bullying. If this was normal at certain types of school, that says a lot about the toxicity of the UK class system.

However, I agree the focus should be on Farage's financial affairs. It's far beyond the £5m now and no doubt there's more to come.

Not only more to come but during the silly season when there’s very little other news. His by-election campaign will be drenched in new allegations and journalists asking questions. Even if he refuses to engage with mainstream media, he’ll be followed everywhere by hacks shouting “ What about the £5 million, Nigel?”.

I think there was a marked change in attitudes towards racism in the UK during the 80s. Before then racist stereotypes had been a standard part of comedy.

Racism exists in the Netherlands and always has done but in the 70/80's jokes about gas chambers would not have been tolerated in schools/society. The war was still too fresh in people's minds.

It’s interesting that you give so little credence to someone’s lived experience of her native culture. That was a specific case of racism carried out in one place in the Netherlands.

I don't think it was widely tolerated in the UK. We were taught about WWII in primary school and read books like 'When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit' and obviously most of us had parents and grandparents who had at the very least lived through the war. We weren't confused about which people were the 'baddies'.

However Giles Coren has said that he was bullied in this way at Westminster and I think he is just a few years younger than Farage.

It's not that. Just that the situation is complex in most countries. I never saw racism in my school in the UK either.

That's why I think saying Farage was only 16 is wrong, he knew what he was saying.

And he doesn't seem to be too embarassed about it as his half arsed apology shows. Most people would be mortified about their younger self.

It is who he is.

He's flounced in the hope the people of Clacton will be boo hooing that they want their Nigel back, turn out to re elect him and give the illusion of mass public support. Which he will then argue should carry more weight than the official enquiry.
