Count Binface has a genuine chance against Nigel Farage!

Sounds crazy but…

None of the major parties are competing…

Farage won Clacton with 46% of the vote…

If the 54% united together to vote for Binface, we could have the most preposterous election outcome of all time!

I reckon this could get some genuine momentum… all the other parties would LOVE this result, and even if they didn’t actively campaign for it, would surely quietly be gunning for Binface to win.

I don't feel sorry for them, they voted for him.

I think we can feel some sympathy for the majority of Clacton who didn’t vote for him.

No issue with calling by-elections - I have an issue where one man can effectively call a by-election to have himself ratified. I have an issue with the fact that this is tax payer funded. I have an issue with the fact that other parties are facilitating his manipulation of the system and making no effort to ensure that the fundamental principle of democracy - choice - is protected by choosing not putting up a candidate. That is also their choice - I said nothing about ‘compelling’ people to stand either.

Edited

We don't need to change our by election rules just because Farage has made the wrong choice.

As Churchill said "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."

takeabreack · Today 09:30

I'd vote for Binface over Weaselface any day of the week.

The precedent for this is when Hartlepool elected a man in a monkey costume (Hangus the monkey) as mayor - he was the local football team’s mascot and had joke policies such as free bananas for all. He served as mayor for many years and did a good job! Including a scheme to give free bananas to schools.

Every by-election costs on average £250,000 to run. You’d happily see £500,000 of tax payer funds put into this man’s ego trip?

Just because one person abuses a right doesn't mean that right should be removed.

Farage has the option to make this choice, voters across the whole country can reflect on it.

Darker · Today 09:35

I agree the main issue is that F shouldn’t be allowed to do this. Apparently Reform are paying… ?

And how will that sit with Reform voters who are unhappy with F?

I am hoping what we are witnessing is the implosion of Farage. Being ousted by Binface is probably the best outcome we could hope for.

Shakeoffyourchains · Today 09:35

Unfortunately most of his followers couldn't care less if he has broken the ministerial code or even the law.

They like him because he gives them easy answers and scapegoats they see as beneath them to hate.

At time they also elected Peter Mandelson as MP in Hartlepool so maybe their judgement was slightly off.

The count was just interviewed in BBC news this morning at the end of the show.

Sometimes I quite enjoy this country.

Count Binface has a genuine chance against Nigel Farage!
TooBigForMyBoots · Today 09:37

Just watched Binface on BBC Breakfast. Vote for him and he'll save the taxpayer the cost of a 2nd By-election in Clacton.😁

Is a joke MP really what the country needs right now?

No, but neither is the UKs biggest sleezebag who is funded by criminal/s.

Cannybeme · Today 09:39

Izzyink · Today 08:25

We already have one in Farage.

Boooooooooooooooooooo.

How is there more choice if the main parties contest this election?

If Farage wins either the standards committee will find that he did nothing wrong, so no change, or there will be another by-election anyway. If there are going to be two by-elections it seems as though it would be cheaper for everyone if the main parties don't participate in the first.

If Count Binface wins, the people of Clacton aren't going to get a worse constituency MP than Farage.

It will also serve as an example to other MPs that if you play stupid games you win stupid prizes.

showmethegin · Today 09:42

I was really confused as to why other parties weren’t standing any competition but I actually think it’s perfect. They don’t stand anyone in he can’t beat other parties and use it to “prove” he has a mandate. Also when he inevitably gets back in again he will be straight back in front of the standards committee anyway. Either way he looks like an absolute fool.

that is why Farage shouldn't get in.

Reform can't pay for it. It is a public election.

Well, Clacton already has one of those…

Yep. And he knew that when he said he'd pay for it. You always know when Farage is lying - his mouth is open.

ClairDeLaLune · Today 09:53

This is the country that voted for Boaty McBoatface as a boat name. Come on Clacton, the country is counting on you (no pun intended). Vote Binface! Throw Farage in the bin like the garbage he is.

I just checked - they did offer to cover the cost.

And I'm relieved to hear that this has been ruled out.

Not picking on you specifically but what does this Count Binface stand for? What are his policies?

Capping 99p flake price at 99p is on top of his list🤣

Unless you live in Clacton then YABVU. Why would you relish the citizens living there having someone in charge who has no policies and would bring chaos to the area, just.to appease your dislike of Farage?

You seem confused. The local MP is not in charge of the local council or what happens in the town - the local council is responsible for that. As an aside, the local councils that are now controlled by Reform have quickly descended into chaos as the few policies that Reform had, and the skills and experience needed to run a town, have all wilted upon contact with reality.

The local MP is supposed to represent the constituency in Parliament, and is supposed to consider the interests of everyone in the constituency, regardless of which party they voted for. The current MP for Clacton appears to spend very little time in his constituency, preferring to spend his time as a shill for crypto schemes and other dubious investment "opportunities" when he's not busy spewing hate and mis-information in the media or jetting off to the US to bond with his right-wing chums.

I feel for the people of Clacton, like the person above. For us it’s a joke but this shit show is their lived experience. Clacton is a great seaside town with huge potential, Farage is a self serving nasty coward who has treated his constituents with contempt. They deserve better than a man with a plastic bin on his head who says he’s an alien.

Clacton is a great seaside town with huge potential, Farage is a self serving nasty coward who has treated his constituents with contempt.

Yet he's confident they'll vote him straight back in. What does that say?

Zhu · Today 09:58

If Binface is the only other candidate, the BBC at least will be obliged to give him equal time and coverage to Farage, and his party’s manifesto equal coverage to Farage’s too. I wonder if they’ll find it easier to just not cover Farage so much for 5 weeks?
