Count Binface has a genuine chance against Nigel Farage!

Sounds crazy but…

None of the major parties are competing…

Farage won Clacton with 46% of the vote…

If the 54% united together to vote for Binface, we could have the most preposterous election outcome of all time!

I reckon this could get some genuine momentum… all the other parties would LOVE this result, and even if they didn’t actively campaign for it, would surely quietly be gunning for Binface to win.

We don't need another joke candidate

I hope someone local stands and puts the emphasis on how lazy Farage is as an MP

VoteForCountBinface · Today 10:42

Farage deserves to lose.

dizzydizzydizzy · Today 10:43

Anyone but Farage! So go Binface!!!!

Happyjoe · Today 10:45

It would be the best outcome, by far. So pleased all the other parties have pulled out and binface would be a huge improvement. Farage is treating the people of Clacton as a joke, and politics all for his personal gain, so to have it backfire would be wonderful. If I lived in Clacton I wouldn't hesitate to vote for Binface.

Is a joke MP really what the country needs right now?

The "joke" candidate ended up as mayor of Hartlepool and served for 10 years until the post as abolished.

TheScreensNurseTheScreens · Today 10:48

VOTE COUNT BINFACE TO BIN CUNT FACE!

I can't take the credit for that, but it did make me chuckle.
Probably can't use it as his campaign slogan though, sadly.

Isn’t that what Farage is?
I bet Binface would actually turn up to the Commons.

QuantumQuibbler · Today 10:51

We need Farage out. Look at all the privileges he has as an MP, that he is abusing for personal gain, and for whatever agenda he is following on behalf of the super-rich tax avoiders,

Reforms policies need more scrutiny and a lot more exposure during the campaign.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · Today 10:51

And let's not forget Farage was originally treated as a joke. I remember him on hignfy and Hislop and co laughed at him for Brexit. Beware the "jokes" in politics, look at Trump and Johnson.(who was no idiot, but cultivated the buffoon persona)

No issue with calling by-elections - I have an issue where one man can effectively call a by-election to have himself ratified. I have an issue with the fact that this is tax payer funded. I have an issue with the fact that other parties are facilitating his manipulation of the system and making no effort to ensure that the fundamental principle of democracy - choice - is protected by choosing not putting up a candidate. That is also their choice - I said nothing about ‘compelling’ people to stand either.

Edited

I think the other parties standing candidates would facilitate manipulation to a greater degree than refusing.

Whatever happens now, he won't be getting what he actually wanted out of this.

Binface will get far more coverage than any local independent candidate unless that local candidate is recognisable (a la Martin Bell vs Neil Hamilton all those years ago).

There is even talk that Farage is saying he won't do a hustings with Binface. He's terrified of being made to look foolish. Farage has got weeks and weeks now of being laughed at. The one thing he hates almost as much as scrutiny.

Farage framed this as sticking two fingers up to "the establishment" (of which he has always been a part despite his man of the people act). His (so far) sole opponent is as far removed from the establishment as you can get.

Yes, he's likely to be returned but if that win is on a reduced majority, that's a humiliation. The "people of Clacton have spoken, they love me" is much harder to spout if far fewer vote for him and a 'novelty' candidate dents his majority.

LauraNorda · Today 08:36

Not picking on you specifically but what does this Count Binface stand for? What are his policies?

Price cap croissants at £1 is the one that stands out for me! This was in his London Mayor manifesto though. Might not transfer to Clacton?

Pistachiocake · Today 10:54

Seriously, some people have said they'd vote for any party that brings back weekly bin collections, and some people might assume he does this-if he did he would no doubt be a runner for PM!
Before anyone says his policies involve wigan kebabs and the price of an ice cream, yes I know that.

Wel, Clacton has had a joke MP for the last two years!

IonianNerveGrip · Today 10:57

Lawrence Fox has been talking about standing too. I would think that potentially dents the Farage vote? They're probably fishing in the same pool of voters.

ByGraptharsHammer · Today 10:58

The Telegraph has a very unflattering picture of Farage on its website. This looks like a start of a media tear down, by right wing papers?

The same mucky pond.

Limeandfigs · Today 11:00

To be fair there's no reason why someone from outside of the political establishment shouldn't win. MPs are just members of the public elected to represent their constituency - there's no reason why they have to be from a political class at all.

The precedent for "outsiders" and media personalities entering politics is well-set; Schwarzenegger, Trump, Zelenskyy. And there's a long tradition in Britain for comedy candidates. There's no reason why another comedian couldn't be an MP.

I still think sadly that it's not realistic that we'll have Count Binface, MP for Clacton (happy to be proved wrong), but there really is no reason why he couldn't be an MP in theory.

TheScreensNurseTheScreens · Today 11:01

Glad the other parties decided not to field candidates. Playing him at his own game. Makes him look like the thin skinned, self obsessed, lying grifter that he is, but now with added farce. He'll forever be remembered as having to face the Count on the hustings, having equal publicity on the BBC and whether he wins or loses, this will follow him around forever. I particularly love Zia Yusuf's protestations of the other parties "trying to make a mockery of democracy" - you almost couldn't make it up. Completely ignoring the fact they'd just offered to buy the election, maybe they misunderstood by-election.
Infamy infamy, they've all got it in for me!

And Count Binface may well turn out to be a good MP - one of his manifesto pledges is:
Hold politicians to account - no more quitting early. If you're elected you'll finish the job.

I could feel sorry for the people of Clacton, but if they elect Farage a second time, they deserve all they get.

cheezncrackers · Today 11:01

If I lived in Clacton I would vote for Count Binface. By all accounts, Farage has been a shit MP for Clacton, so I don't feel it would be a wasted vote.

Binface for Clacton!!

No, which is why binface is gaining momentum...

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Today 11:04

Reminds me of Screaming Lord Sutch back in the day. Go Count Binface! And win I mean.

QuantumQuibbler · Today 11:04

Farage counts on people not caring what he does.

As an actual MP, who made promises to the people of Clacton, I'm hoping he realises that people do indeed care.
