None of the major parties are competing…

Farage won Clacton with 46% of the vote…

If the 54% united together to vote for Binface, we could have the most preposterous election outcome of all time!

I reckon this could get some genuine momentum… all the other parties would LOVE this result, and even if they didn’t actively campaign for it, would surely quietly be gunning for Binface to win.

The thing about Binface is that he's a joke candidate. He doesn't want to be an MP. The fact that people are now taking him seriously as a candidate is fucking ridiculous. He said as much on Newsnight.

If he decides to become a serious candidate and start campaigning seriously with the obvious intention of winning, then the joke's over.

Sensible people tend not to choose to live in shit holes like Clacton. There's a reason it is a Reform safe(ish) seat.

He doesn’t have to be a serious candidate to provide a highly entertaining campaign. I welcome the creativity of a Led by Donkeys campaign and if Dale Vince wants to fund it, good for him.

I want to see Farage’s political career over. It would be particularly edifying if the person who ended it was a joke candidate. Nobody’s taking Binface seriously but it wouldn’t be the end of the world for him to spend three years in parliament. As so many people have pointed out we’ve had plenty of unintended joke MPs, an intentional joke would be fine.

The members of Reform and the others are individualistic with little sense of working as a party. They all want the glory to themselves. I went to the local hustings before the last GE, the Reform candidate didn't know their own manifesto when questioned on it. He is now a councillor elsewhere. We have a Reform councillor where I live and, to be fair, he is seen about locally and takes an interest in local issues but when he was elected he had a meeting with the vicar. When questioned about Reform policies he admitted he didn't believe in them ... so why stand?

His appeal is that he is a man with a bin on his head who is pretty funny when interviewed. People are creating amusing memes and he has crowdfunded small amounts. He is of the people.

As soon as the millionaire donor steps in, he's just another establishment stooge.

Are you including the people who did not vote for Reform in that? People often stay in a town because they have family, friends and history there.

I find it incredulous that people would re-elect someone to represent them in Parliament who, in the last two years, has only mentioned Clacton six times in the Commons.

That seems better than Ed Miliband - who has only mentioned Doncaster five times in five years.

Some people have little choice but to live in such 'shit holes', for a vast variety of reasons, and they deserve someone who gives a shit about them. There is no possible reason to think the guy behind Binface would be any worse than Farage, who lied about being advised by the Speakers office not to hold surgeries. Too much like work, not enough £££$$$.

Er yeap. Clacton is the sort of place that people go to if they think Blackpool is that bit too upmarket. The first thing recommended to do on the Tripadvisor page is to go on a full day tour of Colchester. To be fair I have never actually been, but I have been to Southend and that was a bit of shit hole and I'm told the people of Clacton think Southend is posh,.

There is a very high correlation between people who vote reform and people who choose to live in shit holes.

If a wealthy Labour donor funds Binface then he instantly loses appeal. It's not rocket-science.

Chicken and egg though, isn't it? Do some people vote Reform because they live in a very economically deprived place, or do they deliberately move there because they are Reform (et al) voters? I believe the former.

I can see when some glib Reform type (or Trump, in the US) says to people who feel unrecognised and marginalised that is some unspecified way (usually to do with 'immigrants') they will save them, it is easy to believe that. Hillary Clinton and her 'basket of deplorables' damaged her and it should have, because while some Trump supporters are indeed deplorable they were not usually the ordinary people who felt left behind on the shore of the American Dream looking for a way out. Bernie Sanders understood that, but he was basically unelectable as considered very Left wing by US standards.

No, but a people funded campaign is a better look and would allow historical Reform voters to switch without losing face.
