I mean really, this is just pathetic. No one is believing that KC couldn’t find a spare bed for his son. AIBU to think that as the parent KC needs to get a grip and grow up instead of just fuelling the drama?

Headshot of Prince Harry in a blue suit, white shirt, and dark green tie looking off-camera in a room with several men in suits out of focus in the background,

Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will not stay at palace

Royal sources say the Duke of Sussex had not responded to the offer of accommodation at a Royal residence by the deadline last week.

Yes. Have you met him or any of his children?

Catwalking · 11/07/2026 19:30

C was brought up by a whole array of people who were never trained to provide the child Charles to be a Dad. My ‘d’H was sent to BS aged 6, hasn’t got a clue about living as ‘family’ or even how to save money!!! Our king really cannot force himself into that 🤷‍♀️Dad character.
It should be no surprise. We’ve experimented on monkeys, cows, captive killer whales… bring the infant creature up away from normal family life & it will never learn how to be their normal selves….to the point that female child monkey left with a wire model of its mother has no idea what her own offspring is & abandons or kills it.

Coming to 42. Meghan is nearly 45. Which is kind of middle-aged.

It’s a bit embarrassing to be dependent on dad at that age. I’d built a career of my own by then, on my own merits.

You'd think. Not many people are dependent on parents in middle age.

I agree. If he wanted to see his grandchildren, he could have gone to the USA.

He's a head of state whose diary is planned months in advance and whose travel arrangements involve sophisticated security coordination with the host nation.

Why should he make the journey, instead of his son who is basically unemployed and could travel at pretty much any time?

And why should the Americans pay for it , when Harry can travel freely.

Quite!

Oh no - not this again. The idea that KC is some suburban dad who can decide to jump on a plane just any old time...

And if Gibstub remembers, H & M flounced off having told the world that he and Catherine were racists and the whole RF were toxic...and that he wanted something totally different for his children. In view of this, how would KC just going to the USA unilaterally be either possible or likely?

The people on here claiming that KC is a 'crap dad' are in a small minority, but they seem to have no clue about how the world works. KC is a Head of State - not Mr Brown from next door. And H had pretty much declared war on him!

I mean he made his young boys walk behind their mother's coffin in the most public event of grief. No loving parent would do that. He never appeared fatherly anyway.

No, it's all been discussed at length upthread.

{mention:CoffeeCantata}and@IcedPurple - why don't people understand this?
A Head of State with a busy schedule, who is elderly and with health problems should go out of his way to visit a healthy 41 year old with no job and not much going on?.
Ridiculous.

You are aware that it was Tony Blair’s idea and the rf wanted to keep the children away?

gishgalloping · 11/07/2026 23:55

Not only did the Blair government insist the royal family leave Balmoral so they could be paraded in front of the public but they also took over the funeral arrangements. Alistair Campbell even boasted in his diaries that he was the one who turned it into "the people's funeral".

The entire thing was mishandled thanks to the tabloids whipping the public into hysteria and the government dancing to their tune and insisting that the family had to mourn publicly. How anyone can say it was all Charles' fault is beyond me.

You do this at cocktail parties?

Coco1379 · 11/07/2026 23:58

I think the question should be ‘Is Harry a spoiled brat?’ After the way he treated the whole family in the late Queen’s last years with I’m surprised any of the family would want to see him. If you are referring to the stay at BP he declined the offer and then changd his mind when it was too late for appropriate arrangements to be made. Discourteous in the extreme.

The boys wanted to walk behind the coffin. Prince Phillip told them that if it was what they wanted, he would walk beside them

Lots of respect for Philip doing that. Couldn't have easy for him either, crucially it meant the boys both had an adult between them and the crowd.

Outtaxed · 12/07/2026 03:52

I see Charles as a good Dad in a practical sense. W and H seemed to have lots of fun as teenagers and young adults. I recall they had some sort of bar set up at their home to socialise with friends. They had cars, girlfriends and travelled the world at young age. They were aggressively protected from the press during their youth. Charles must have had a hand in all that.

But I doubt KC was emotionally available for his kids or present much. That’s a product of his job and upbringing. William has put family before his job.

I imagine KC saw Harry and family this week because he’s seriously ill. Otherwise I doubt that meeting would have taken place.

Even without the head of state duties and the security situation, who the hell makes a 78 year old with cancer travel to see his granchildren when they can perfectly easily take the grandchildren to visit him?

Good points. I think it's because - as we have seen- people infantilise Harry. He's nearly 42 and a father of two children, but some posters act as if he's an incapable teenager.
He's got a lot of money and a lot of free time. He could easily have visited his father. Particularly because of his Dad's cancer.

Thank you - we had a very long and very detailed discussion, with varying points of view. It was lengthy! Then someone comes on the thread and expects a complete rehash! So irritating

And tada! It’s still there for anyone to read!

Not necessary for that poster to be snide.

No indeed. A thread with over 800 posts? "I won't bother to read it, I'll just comment as if I'm poster number 1!"

Batcats · 13/07/2026 14:58

I have no idea of Charles relationship with Harry. None of us do. However if its anything like the public persona, I actually commend him as a parent for putting in boundaries for damaging and toxic behaviour.

Too often as seen on this thread and others when adult children have behaved appallingly, the general theme is the child is ALWAYS right and justified for how they behave. And that as (most) parents love their children they should therefore not question said behaviour, say nothing and continue to bend over backwards to accommodate said toxic behaviour

How is that good parenting? I dont buy this notion that just because you're "family" it's a green light to behave how you want with absolutely no consequences. So many people have to put up with all sorts of abusive behaviour at the cost of their own mental health because of "family".
