AIBU to think King Charles comes across as a really crap dad?

I mean really, this is just pathetic. No one is believing that KC couldn’t find a spare bed for his son. AIBU to think that as the parent KC needs to get a grip and grow up instead of just fuelling the drama?

Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will not stay at palace

Royal sources say the Duke of Sussex had not responded to the offer of accommodation at a Royal residence by the deadline last week.

Harry's a self obsessed drama seeking twat who blabs to the media (which he professes to hate) at every opportunity.

His father wants him at arms length and it's all he deserves.

Plainpurpletop · 06/07/2026 16:23

I think Charles should see his son and host him and pay for his security from his own pocket given the Gov aren’t keen.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/07/2026 16:10

Surely Harry can afford a hotel if his dad can’t house him?

Why the drama??

you'd think harry would have replied, if it was that important to him. He knows how this stuff works within the royal households

So possibly he is the one constantly creating drama

ImPamDoove · 06/07/2026 16:25

Charles is a product of his weird upbringing. Of course he’s a crap dad by modern standards.

Dollymylove · 06/07/2026 16:27

Harry has once again thrown his toys out of his pram. Denying his children the right to get to know their ailing grandfather. The family would be completely safe as guests in one of KCs residences but no, its not good enough for Harry. He wants the blue light escorts and the armed bodyguards while he swans around London. Sorry H but you binned off your family and the privileges you enjoyed, you just ain't that important anymore 😉

Harry was offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace.
No member of the Royal Family is currently living at Buckingham Palace.
If someone were to stay there, arrangements about security, housekeeping, catering, other staff as required, would need to be made.
Therefore Harry, quite reasonably, was asked to confirm whether he wanted to stay there and who if anyone would be accompanying him.
He didn't confirm, and it's now too late to make the necessary arrangements.
None of which has anything to do with the King's parenting skills.

Oh I see, because it did not reflect well in my opinion, the BBC article puts a different spin on it.

But if what you say is correct then fine.

But if isn't,and that's just a nice PR response that covers the King, then that's very, very rubbish.

The newspapers are having a very detrimental effect on family relations if that were the case, so I hope you are correct.

blubberyboo · 06/07/2026 16:28

Well PH must be a shite dad himself if he cant book or confirm accomodation arrangements in time for himself and his family. He probably assumed Meghan was doing it for him. Maybe he will post an AIBU and we can all tell him that he missed the booking deadline.

Why does he need to announce his arrival to Buck Mansion to us all anyway via his "spokesperson"?? He keeps telling us they are private citizens. How many private citizens announce their holiday itinerary on the BBC?

WildWindySeascape · 06/07/2026 16:29

The entire thing is ridiculous but goodness Harry’s camp seem difficult. Why not just happily accept the invitation in good time so that all the arrangements can be made, rather than all of the last minute changes? Or if he wasn’t keen on the palace he could just stay in a hotel like he does when he visits other countries. There are many exclusive hotels in London with experience hosting VIPs. And why is the media being briefed about this? It’s like some kind of silly power play.

Nowisthetimeforicecream · 06/07/2026 16:29

I think when you "cash in" on a book destroying your whole family it is a bit rich to then blame that family for not welcoming you with open arms.

Harry made his bed.......

Harry seems so conflicted with saying he wants a quiet life and privacy for his family, yet acting as if he wants attention at every turn.

emuloc · 06/07/2026 16:30

Meh, I don't know about being a crap dad, as I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but he does not seem much cop, as a King, imo.

It’s not Charlie’s fault, you know what it’s like when you just don’t have the spare room for guests…

LadyWiddiothethird · 06/07/2026 16:30

Harry is a gigantic pain in the arse.

IonianNerveGrip · 06/07/2026 16:31

I don't think Charles ever came across as parent of the year, but not because of this.

FenellaFeldman · 06/07/2026 16:33

Is Harry a good Dad? He's 41, and still constantly whining about some aspect of his over privileged life. Not a great role model.

This ⬆️

Vaxtable · 06/07/2026 16:34

It was offered and the son declined. The he decided to change his mind knowing full well that it would not be possible because Harry knows how the palaces work
itsjust Harry trying to make the RF look bad again.

Victorius19 · 06/07/2026 16:34

Harry left it too late, it's that simple. They needed to arrange security as well as staff, and he gave them 48 hours notice over a weekend. I'm actually quite proud of Charles that he didn't give in to Harry's non stop demands.

DappledThings · 06/07/2026 16:34

None of them come out well of it. Every one of them is making a great big fuss about of the formality of the visit. Both sides could calm down and behave like family rather than keeping all the protocol in place if they actually wanted to.

Yeah, it does need Harry to confirm he's coming. Not turn it down, then change hid mind, then complain. What a pain in the arse. Is this all about publicity?

KC should be paying for the security not the tax payer. Of course he can afford it. They are both having a tantrum and being petulant imo

He's not a good dad.

I read Harry's book. Nobody so much as hugged him the day his mother died. Fuck the stiff upper lip. Awful.

He doesn't have the skills or awareness to be a private citizen imo that is part of why he behaves like he does, he should be able to visit calmly with his wife and family but he can't or won't.

LavenderSweetPea · 06/07/2026 16:37

It's not that they couldn't find a room. Running a palace requires staff and the palace isn't usually resided in - originally Harry declined to stay, therefore staff (security, kitchen, cleaners, etc) would not have been scheduled. The king has shown respect for the people who work for him by not messing everyone around with sudden rota changes. It's not like having last minute family round to your regular home.

Suitplace · 06/07/2026 16:38

I don't think Harry's asking for a spare bed though. The King doesn't live at Buckingham Palace. Harry and family were offered rooms/a suite (?) at Buckingham Palace. I imagine getting that ready amounts to more than making the bed. Staff would need to be asked to work, catering and security arranged. If he didn't respond by the date given, it's not unreasonable to say enough's enough and we're not messing the staff around.

Yes, the flip flopping is crazy.
