AIBU to think King Charles comes across as a really crap dad?

I mean really, this is just pathetic. No one is believing that KC couldn’t find a spare bed for his son. AIBU to think that as the parent KC needs to get a grip and grow up instead of just fuelling the drama?

Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will not stay at palace

Royal sources say the Duke of Sussex had not responded to the offer of accommodation at a Royal residence by the deadline last week.

His son wants things his way he is a grown man not a child, his father is probably distant but he isn't the one who's "team" says prince Harry expected an invite to Buckingham Palace.

KaleidoscopeSmile · 06/07/2026 16:06

I've voted you're unreasonable for posting this shite in AIBU instead of the Royal Family board

He offered him Buck House and his spoilt brat did not reply and now expects it all sorted last minute with all the security and drama

Pootles34 · 06/07/2026 16:08

It's not just a spare bed though is it - I'm sure if it was just a room in a personal house that would be fine, but I imagine running a palace is a bit more involved.

Surely they would need a whole team of staff to look after them, not least from a security pov?

Lomonald · 06/07/2026 16:08

It just seems PH can't survive or thrive without chaos, it is quite sad really.

HelenaWilson · 06/07/2026 16:08

Harry was offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace.
No member of the Royal Family is currently living at Buckingham Palace.
If someone were to stay there, arrangements about security, housekeeping, catering, other staff as required, would need to be made.
Therefore Harry, quite reasonably, was asked to confirm whether he wanted to stay there and who if anyone would be accompanying him.
He didn't confirm, and it's now too late to make the necessary arrangements.
None of which has anything to do with the King's parenting skills.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/07/2026 16:10

Surely Harry can afford a hotel if his dad can’t house him?

Why the drama??

GreenWheat · 06/07/2026 16:10

Nope. Harry is an attention seeking drama magnet.

Sirzy · 06/07/2026 16:10

He was told he needed to confirm by Friday to get everything in place. He didn’t then made an announcement on Monday to say he would be going even though he knew he has missed the date and it was too late to sort things.

this one is fully on Harry IMO. He is an adult and has to take some responsibility for his actions

Lifestooshort71 · 06/07/2026 16:11

Perhaps look at the Royal Family board where you will find whether YABU or not.

Overtheatlantic · 06/07/2026 16:12

I think Charles is a good dad, and I think Harry is a good son. The media have an interest in creating drama.

I’m not a royalist and prefer not to be there!

Well yes that’s a point, the media have a vested interest in destroying PH since he’s constantly suing them

It wasn’t King Charles who became a drama llama, just saying

lifetheuniverse · 06/07/2026 16:15

The media did not need to create drama PH and Meghan have created all their own drama and thrive on keeping it going.

No, I think it’s the opposite. If you read the BBC coverage Harry didn’t respond to the invitation to Buckingham Palace despite chasing, then briefed that he’d be staying there after it was clear he would not be.

Harry seems to have been doing a lot that any parent would find trying and it’s a shame because I think most people are naturally sympathetic to him and would be very happy to hear of a reconciliation with C and W.

Sirzy · 06/07/2026 16:17

mintleavesandthyme · 06/07/2026 16:16

How is he? He isn’t the one running the the media every time something doesn’t go his way!

Meadowfinch · 06/07/2026 16:17

The security relief at Buck House would have to be rescheduled. Remember KCII doesn't actually live there.

So for Harry to stay, they would need to put a protection squad on nights, plus catering and house staff. Harry is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Police rotas will have been fixed for the week, resources allocated.

Are you expecting the Met to call in a corridor officer plus wider protection team and driver from rest days or give overtime at 24 hours notice? That's absurd.

If Harry wanted to stay, he should have accepted a week ago when he had the chance.

Harry does love to cause a drama and then whine doesn't he ! Anyone normal with manners would have accepted KCII's kind offer a week ago.

HelenaWilson · 06/07/2026 16:19

The King isn't the one who is constantly talking to the media about it. There would be no drama if Harry just kept quiet.

Overtheatlantic · 06/07/2026 16:19

Hopefully he will have an invitation to stay at Althorp with his uncle.

eosmum · 06/07/2026 16:20

Well he's a shite dad in general, and nothing would keep me away from my meeting my grandchild, and how many times has he met Harry's two. No matter what I would bend over backwards to make it happen.

labradormam · 06/07/2026 16:21

Based on this incident? Not sure, hard to tell.

In general? Yes, absolutely he comes across as a crap dad.

But then the Queen came across as a crap mum. Remember the footage of her meeting him off the train when he was a young lad? Can’t remember how long they had been apart, quite a while…and she shook his hand Blush

mondaytosunday · 06/07/2026 16:21

God this is such a non story. I love the Royal family but couldn’t be less interested in this and it’s got nothing to do with Charles as a father.
