Praise for Queen Camilla's common sense

So are the rabid TRAs going to try to cancel Queen Camilla for daring to meet with and praise J K Rowling? I'd like to see them try! Probably the only useful thing any member of the Royal Family has ever done, encouraging free speech in publishing. I might even become a Royalist after all.

Both she and Charles have morals lower than a snakes belly, so I'm hardly going to trust her judge of character.

So you know them personally?! Or are you an avid Redddit fan?

Well I have met Charles a couple of times but I wouldn't say I know him, but I think anyone who has an affair is morally bankrupt.

This statement suggests a very strange moral compass in yourself!

It's a ridiculous viewpoint and totally blinkered. I can only suggest you either do more research or stop reading the tabloids.

I assume you think Diana too was morally bankrupt?

Can't you see that in that time - a much more secretive, deferential, conservative age - that all these people were in a bind? Expectations and old ideas about chastity in royal brides etc led to a human tragedy for all concerned? How can a grown up person not understand that?

And why are we still having to have these discussions nearly half a century later?

Fgs, move on.

Absolutely.

King Charles III

King Charles the Turd as we call him.

I think Camilla is Bullet proof and doesn't care a jot. At 78 not many are seeking public opinion.

Nonetheless she is almost as high profile as it gets, and her actions are all very carefully considered because of that.

I’m not especially a Camilla fan but I applaud her for this.

JKR has even offered a million pounds to anyone who can point to where she has been transphobic. Two years later it is still unclaimed. Perhaps sj37dj will be that person! Exciting times!

It wasn't JKR herself who offered 1million it was The Distance, but the prize is still unclaimed - so PP will get right on it and claim that today I'd expect:

We Will Award Steve Wardlaw £1 Million For The Elusive 'Anti-Trans' J.K. Rowling Quote

He has assured us that it exists

She was happily married to someone else in the first place though (by the time Charles was ready to get married).

Yes Camilla married someone else because she was not from a noble enough background to ever be a serious option for Charles. She was also not considered pure enough; she had a few relationships before which made her "too experienced".

So I repeat myself - he should have been allowed to marry her in the first place.

NoFineBalance · 03/07/2026 12:03

The excellent Helen Joyce on this very matter on Talk TV earlier. And I agree with her - the queues I see at "Platform 9 & 3/4" on my frequent commutes through Kings Cross bely the notion that the young do not like JKR.

The wife of the King, Camilla doesn't give a rat's arse what anyone thinks of her, she has her man, she is Queen, and at the end of a stint of engagements every six months or so (😊), goes home to Ray Mill House, kicks off her shoes, lights a fag, pours a large G+T and says Fk them all, I won!

viques · 03/07/2026 09:27

Interesting choice of words that, “bullet proof”. Because of course, every time she goes out she understands that it only takes one fucker armed with a gun to prove that she is not in fact bullet proof at all.

Ask Princess Anne and King Charles, and if you could the late QE, how it feels to have someone get very close to you with some sort of a firearm, or even to innocently pop into your bedroom for a little chat one night.

Sod the life of luxury, I would rather not have a target on my beautifully dressed back.

I’m sure you don’t need to me to tell you that thousands of women are subject to violence every year in the UK. A violent threat is not exclusive to The Royal Family 😂

King Charles the Turd as we call him.

Goodness, how incredibly witty of you. That's a joke which has aged irretrievably before it even leaves someone's mouth.

Friendlygingercat · 03/07/2026 12:23

The word "queen" comes from the Old English (Anglo-Saxon) word "cwen", which originally meant a wife of the chief, or female ruler.

In the UK the kIng's wife is automatically the queen. Camilla is married to Charles so she is the queen regardless of how worthy or unworthy anyone thinks she is.

I loved the late Diana but I quite like Camilla. She comes from a posh county background but strikes me as having a lot of common sense. Charles should have been allowed to marry her at the onset without his bloody relations wading in because they thought she was not "good" enough.

Nearly50omg · 03/07/2026 12:32

She’s not my queen and was only ever meant to be queen consort but Charles was crafty about that! Anyone who behaved as she did and towards our princess Diana should frankly know her place! Awful woman

She is Queen consort. All queens who are queen in virtue of being married to a king are- Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother).

Nonsense. She is Queen Consort. She always will be while Charles is alive. But like all other Queens Consort she is crowned and known as Queen [NAME].

Diana would have been the same, Catherine will be the same, loads of others have been the same.

You have to wonder about these objectors. Still so adamant they've found the killing trick to undo Camilla’s position, and utterly oblivious of a thousand years of precedent which contradicts them.

It’s getting a bit much that this utterly erroneous cavil is still such a sticking point.

CoffeeCantata · 03/07/2026 12:49

Give me strength...some people are living in a Disney film.

The moment QEII died. Same as Catherine will become Queen the moment KCIII dies. If Camilla outlives him she'll still be a Queen. Both Camilla and Catherine are/will be Queens Consort, same as plenty before them but known as Queen Camilla/Catherine same as Queen Elizabeth (the last Queen's mother), Queen Mary etc.

In the early days after KC dies Catherine will probably be referred to as Queen Consort same as Camilla was just to add clarity about who we are talking about. It wasn't pejorative towards Camilla in 2022 and it won't be to Catherine whenever that happens.

Edited

Dowager Queen, perhaps? Or maybe even a prepared title such a Countess of [name of her home]? She is one rare woman most unlikely to hold on to any title that could cause any issue with the new Queen or around the country, and despite her detractors, being named Queen was never her goal anyway, as long as she was at Charles’ side.

Every child does not love her, the tide has turned massively. Youngsters are far more inclusive and think her behaviour is appalling. I’ve seen it online, with my own kids and in a work capacity.

Her behaviour to a vulnerable section of society has been frankly appalling.

Not as vulnerable as that half of the population threatened by their violent activism, so its stalemate, I guess. (JKR should be canonised as far as I’m concerned)

Ooh - the Sensible Vote is at 86% now. Thank God!

As usual, the batty minority on here is the most vociferous.

Queen Camilla 😂 she’s not a patch on the late Queen Elizabeth II. When you think what the late Queen did over her lifetime compared to the wooden, stiff Camilla. It’s a bloody cheek that Camilla is now referred to as Her Majesty the Queen.
Camilla Queen Consort is more fitting as she is the wife of the reigning monarch, King Charles II. Nothing more, nothing less.

I believe in a republic. The late queen always back her son Andrew up.

My 17 year old and her mates seem very excited by new HBO Potter series coming out later this year - even eldest who did make a few remarks against JKR few years back - went into Harry Potter shops with no qwarms on recent family trip.

JKR a very succesful female author -who has done fair bit in getting kid reading last few decades - and this is an area Camilla interested in.

They've tried very hard to cancel JKR and she still around - so doubt either Camilla or JKR will much care if they do try as their platforms are too big to cancel.

I was (to me, bafflingly) fond of Diana. I felt intensely that she was used and betrayed by the Royal Family and was also appalled by how she died as well as how early.

But I have come round to Camilla. I think she’s really a good egg and that the whole situation was the result of old fashioned mistaken ideas (the Queen’s) and I am kind of glad that in the end she and Charles have got to be mainly happy.

So good for her, acknowledging the national treasure status of JKR and here’s to the healing power of books.

Pretty much exactly how I feel and have before this. I was delighted to see this photo.
