Praise for Queen Camilla's common sense

So are the rabid TRAs going to try to cancel Queen Camilla for daring to meet with and praise J K Rowling? I'd like to see them try! Probably the only useful thing any member of the Royal Family has ever done, encouraging free speech in publishing. I might even become a Royalist after all.

Have I missed a popularity poll recently?

Please provide link to support your assertion that Queen Camilla "is not accepted as such by the majority" 🙏

Yes, the YouGov poll showed the majorty of the UK look on her unfavourably.

You don't have a choice about any of it, is basically the point

Yes, that was my point, read it again slowly.

Ninetysixdegreesintheshade · 03/07/2026 21:24

I doubt Camilla gives a toss about Trans. More interested in having a G & T and a sneaky ciggie.

Theunamedcat · 04/07/2026 01:57

JKR has done a lot for literacy rates children still love her work

Primary school children parrot their parents views

Theunamedcat · 04/07/2026 02:01

0 5% of the population identifies as transgender why do they demand so much from the rest of us

beencaughttrollin · 04/07/2026 02:03

LuckyHazelFox · 03/07/2026 01:46

Apparently they talked about their shared love of literature. I'm sure though that merely entertaining JKR, will make the Queen a hate target. What has it come to?

Wasn't Charles technically the "side piece", if you absolutely must use a dehumanising term? Camilla was married to someone else far earlier in their affair than Charles was.

Sorry! That was meant to be a reply to this post - not sure what happened and I can't edit.

I can’t see her as anything other than side piece
let alone queen

Ticktockk · 04/07/2026 08:59

Should we stop referring to all previous queens as Queen too, if they didn’t do as much as QE2?

KilkennyCats · 04/07/2026 08:59

BMW58 · 04/07/2026 08:57

You mean this one?

https://yougov.com/en-gb/topics/public_figure/Camilla_Queen_Consort

Because it certainly DOESN'T show a majority dislike her does it!! 🙄

Never let the facts get in the way of a good whinge 😁

nomas · 03/07/2026 19:37

Not a fan of Camilla/Charles affair but I support her meeting JKR.

It's a fucked up system that tells you she's our Queen when she's not accepted as such by the majority.

if you support having a monarchy - you get what you are given, and doff your cap when required

If you are a republican - join the gang.

But you don't get to have a monarchy and then choose which ones you get.

LightlyRoamingOcelots · 04/07/2026 13:50

I think the real problem behind the objections that @IFancyABaconSarnie @bigvig @nomas and others on this thread have is that we have no better set of titles and styles for a reigning female monarch than "Her Majesty the Queen"- the problem is that this was and is already the entirely legal and correct title abd style for the wife of a reigning King and that's not going to change. If Elizabeth II - and obviously Victoria, Anne both Marys, the previous Elizabeth and briefly Jane had had a title that was grander and more impressive than "Her Majesty the Queen" then it wouldn't seem a problem when we revert to a male monarch and the title passes quite correctly to his wife. Next opportunity to fix this will be if Prince George has a female heir so there's a few decades - the challenge is to think of a suitably impressive upgrade to the title by the time we next need to crown a reigning queen. But as @SockPlant says, if you are a monarchist you have to accept what you are given. Said future female heir could be massively unpopular and still be queen!

TigTails · 04/07/2026 14:22

The vast number of likes on their IG post featuring her in comparison to all their other posts speak absolute volumes.

JuliettaCaeser · 05/07/2026 09:15

Camilla is doing some good work on violence against women and girls so good luck to her. Im no Royalist but she may as well use her powers for the good. She has helped the elderly mother of the poor woman murdered by her husband who got a manslaughter conviction so was going to be let out. They kept him in prison so good effort.

Most mainstream teens eye roll at the they/thems. Once the teachers and school are endorsing something it’s
over.

CoffeeCantata · 05/07/2026 10:26

Just going back to OP's mention of common sense, I actually find Camilla's demeanour in public very likeable. She's humble, rather mousey, in fact, keeps her head down but greets people on a very human and equal level. She absolutely doesn't give herself airs or enter a room like a celebrity. I prefer that approach.

She isn't the late Queen - and she doesn't try to be. She's a countrywoman who's been thrust into this horrendously demanding role very late in life and she gets on with it in her quiet way. Good for her and I wish her all the best.

She isn't 'our Princess Diana' (excuse me while I retch...) either, and she's all too aware of that and doesn't try to be. Diana was young, pretty (not beautiful!) and had great people skills. How can a woman of 78 who's been thrust into one of the most high-profile roles in the world compete with that? She can't, and she doesn't try. She comes over to me as wise and resilient in the face of idiotic misogynists like HotBothered who call her a 'side-piece'.

palrono · 05/07/2026 11:03

I don't think the Queen was "thrust" into her role, she knew when she married the POW that she would be Queen one day.

That said, I wouldn't swop with her for anything.

I think this will highlight how disliked JK Rowling is now and how utterly let down young trans readers feel by her. I doubt the royal family will
make the same mistake again. If Camilla wants to be seen as advancing reading in youngsters that should include all kids. To be giving airtime to somebody that has been so hateful to a section of society either highlights a nasty side to the royal family or a big PR mistake.

Absolutely disagree.

she’s not hated, many of us admire her for defending WOMEN’S rights

TooLongDidntRead · 05/07/2026 15:35

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2026 14:49

Camilla knew the reaction she was likely to get and she did it anyway, she and JKR discussed women’s rights.

How Queen Camilla became the boldest royal of the bunch

Thank you, @Ereshkigalangcleg, that’s a good article from Roya Nikkhah.

The Queen, however, was not only willing but determined to take on the risk and the criticism she knew would come with it, in a major show of support for Rowling. Before the meeting, courtiers deliberated whether to try to keep the meeting private, but an aide says that “fundamentally it was felt that being open was the right thing to do”.

I have a new respect for Camilla now. And I’m appreciative of Roya Nikkhah for writing it.

JuliettaCaeser · 05/07/2026 17:10

Sorry but Camilla is not mousy in any way ! Nor humble! She’s a county /posh /green wellies /horses and dogs type. Met her a few times and definitely no humble mousey vibes whatsoever.

Yes, I'm sure that's true in her private life, but in her role as Queen Consort she doesn't push herself forward or try to outshine Charles or behave like a celeb. She gets it right, I think!

I'm sure she's a tough woman with strong opinions in private but keeps her head down in her public role.

WonderfulSmith · 05/07/2026 17:35

I’ve just finished listening to The Witch Trials of JK Rowling. I suggest people on both sides of the debate give it a listen. Hugely interesting.

In this case it strike me that you have two women of a certain age who are way past caring what people think.

Luddite26 · 05/07/2026 18:10

You don't need to say of a. Two women of a certain age. There's nineteen years between them. JK is Gen X.

Ok then. Women over 50, which I am too. They are both women in a position where they are able to not give a shit what people think too.
