Praise for Queen Camilla's common sense

So are the rabid TRAs going to try to cancel Queen Camilla for daring to meet with and praise J K Rowling? I'd like to see them try! Probably the only useful thing any member of the Royal Family has ever done, encouraging free speech in publishing. I might even become a Royalist after all.

I think this will highlight how disliked JK Rowling is now and how utterly let down young trans readers feel by her. I doubt the royal family will
make the same mistake again. If Camilla wants to be seen as advancing reading in youngsters that should include all kids. To be giving airtime to somebody that has been so hateful to a section of society either highlights a nasty side to the royal family or a big PR mistake.

Don't think so

Sj37dj · 03/07/2026 07:17

Every child does not love her, the tide has turned massively. Youngsters are far more inclusive and think her behaviour is appalling. I’ve seen it online, with my own kids and in a work capacity.

Her behaviour to a vulnerable section of society has been frankly appalling.

With the number of kids dressed as Harry Potter for World Book Day, and the amount of young teens wearing Gryffindor scarves, I think she is very much loved by children.

Of course, if you hang out on certain Reddit threads you'll have a skewed view of reality.....

WomenAreNotEmotionalSupportAnimals · 03/07/2026 07:40

After For Women Scotland won their case about men in women's prisons, the Scottish Prison Services released a statement saying basically that they'd keep breaking the law and putting men in the women's estate. Bastards!

Did anyone else laugh at how quickly SPS pulled a u-ey on that statement once JKR offered to fund legal action for any woman who was illegally incarcerated with men and wished to sue?

Queen Camilla 😂 she’s not a patch on the late Queen Elizabeth II. When you think what the late Queen did over her lifetime compared to the wooden, stiff Camilla. It’s a bloody cheek that Camilla is now referred to as Her Majesty the Queen.
Camilla Queen Consort is more fitting as she is the wife of the reigning monarch, King Charles II. Nothing more, nothing less.

Queen Eluzabeth was Monarch
Queen Camilla is a Queen consort
Very different Roles
Im not a Royalist in the slighest but people need to Educate themsleves of the fscts.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 03/07/2026 07:42

Harry Potter is taught on the curriculum at our local schools.
And on the reading list at Secondaries.

The excitement over the new TV series is rising.

Its only adults and teens whove swallowed tbe lie that wo?mens rights are "Transphobic" that "hate" her.

🤷🏼‍♀️ She's Queen Camilla to me, I've no problem with her.

He should have been allowed to marry her in the first place.

She was happily married to someone else in the first place though (by the time Charles was ready to get married).

IFancyABaconSarnie · 03/07/2026 07:48

LightlyRoamingOcelots · 03/07/2026 06:40

Don't be silly. Almost every king we've had has been married and not one of their wives was routinely referred to as (forename) Queen Consort. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was simply Queen Elizabeth before her daughter became Queen Elizabeth II and only got the postscrpt because they shared a forename. Her MIL was Queen Mary and Queen Mary's MIL was Queen Alexandra. Camilla is Queen Camilla and the whole point of royalty is that there's no aspect of how popular you are or how worthy of the role, your position in the hierarchy is fixed. If you want any kind of element of popularity or deservingness then you are fundamentally missing the point.

You’re the silly billy. 😘
The late Queen compared to Camilla. Hahaha. No comparison!

LoudBlueSeal · 03/07/2026 07:54

I couldn’t care less about the royals, and I doubt either of JKR or QC can be cancelled at this time though given the amount of criticism thrown at both of them over the years I’m sure they have some understanding for each other.

As for the OP’s statement about the royals being useful, Diana did do something genuinely useful too - when even Drs wouldn’t touch AIDS patients without gloves and masks, she did, to show it was safe.

JSMill · 03/07/2026 08:07

Theunamedcat · 03/07/2026 06:39

She is Charles choice Diana made a sort of peace with it according to her friends she was definitely on a better footing with Charles before she died i think its time the nation did too

Exactly.

What rubbish, how could she possibly know it was safe if it wasn't for doctors telling her that? Doctors knew it was safe, it was the general public that were understandably fearful. Were you not alive at the time of the tombstone tv ads?

I really like Camilla, calm and sensible. I really like JK, calm and sensible. I don't like TRA's - not calm, not sensible.

BathersOnTheLine · 03/07/2026 08:08

HotBothered · 03/07/2026 01:33

I can’t see her as anything other than side piece
let alone queen

The grudge people can bear for periods of decades over someone they've never met and about whom they don't know the facts is one of the great revelations to me from MN.

Your post reads as if you think Camilla is this greatly beloved figure whom the public would never under any circumstances turn against. Are you quite young?

thisandthats · 03/07/2026 08:15

No one cares.

NoFineBalance · 03/07/2026 08:18

Utterly pointless (and a bit dim) comparing Queen Camilla with Queen Elizabeth II. Completely different roles, different lives, different destinies, different choices. In the here and now, QC is highlighting the need for greater literacy amongst the young and greater help for victims of DV. As is JKR, who is a champion of both causes, which should be universally supported, free of politics, misogyny and the interests of pressure groups. You’d have to be pretty embedded in your prejudices and hatred to criticise either for coming together, supporting these causes and shaking hands.

LancashireButterPie · 03/07/2026 08:22

Camilla has really forged a role for herself with children's literacy, it's a field that should be controversy free. Bet they had no idea when they "picked a cause" just how politically charged it could be.
I have very mixed feelings about JKR, my DC grew up loving Harry Potter, however they do now question whether her anti trans sentiment has contributed to the ongoing rise in transphobia and more generally, homophobia and right wing ideology.
I have been quite surprised to hear even primary school age children being quite critical of her.

Can you articulate her “anti trans sentiment”?

Can you please say @Sj37dj what the “hateful” behaviour is?

Please can you clarify the hateful speech? Its often mentioned but Im not suere I have managed to find it..I assume @sj37dj can reference it

Again as @NoFineBalance asks, as have many pp, can anyone who calls JKR hateful/transphobic please give an example? How long have people been asking for some evidence?!

Why should we change age-old traditions? The wife of the reigning monarch is queen - it's not cheek, it's the way it is and has been for centuries.. It applied to Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Mary of Teck and Alexandra of Denmark, and several monarchs' wives before them. The fact that a few people are still in thrall to someone who died nearly 30 years ago doesn't change that.

Because it isn't a valid comparison. They are doing totally different jobs. If you haven't worked out the difference between the consort and the reigning monarch by now, where have you been all your life?

bigvig · 03/07/2026 08:47

When did she becone Queen not Queen consort? No Queen of mine - although I like JKR

Her behaviour towards a vulnerable section of society, ie women, who are increasingly having their rights, safe spaces and even sports invaded by men, and their right to even comment about this eroded amid threats and intimidation, has been frankly inspirational!
