To be shocked that my good friend, 37, is seeing a 66 year old lady?

Had a few beers with a good friend recently and got a bit tipsy and we got into his dating life. He told me that he’s been seeing a 66 year old grandmother. He is only 37 for reference. They met via online dating.

To be clear, there is nothing wrong with this but I’m just a bit shocked to be honest. He says that they enjoy each other’s company and there is no intention of it developing into anything more.

My friend has always dated younger women and not short of female attention at all.

It’s all good right?

When I was in my sixties a man I worked with had a serious’crush’ on me. Even my husband could see it, the guy made no secret of it. He was 30. Younger than our son. It wasn’t funny, but it was weird. Difficult as we worked together. Came to the house too. I say crush because that’s what my husband called it. Especially as this guy frequently told my husband he was punching… We moved counties not because of him obviously but because of that we completely lost touch. I’d forgotten about it until I read this thread.

So it boils down to two single consenting adults happy spending time together and having sex with no long-term commitment. Why is this even a thread?

Draytoncb · 29/06/2026 21:24

It's nobody's business

usually its the age gap, as in societys view it seems only the rich and famous should have age gaps, eg cher, madonna, etc

Do you never look at him and think "he could be my son?"

I fancy blokes who ARE the same age as my son. So what? They're not my son!

Not at all and he doesn't look at me and think I'm a mother figure either.

What's wrong with this. Maybe she just wanted some young fresh meat. Or a friend with benefits.

Lets face it. Most 66 year old men are hardly Sex Gods. Are they!

Go for it lady

I started with my thread by saying it’s not wrong. Of course it’s not. But it took me by surprise.

darksideofthetoon · 29/06/2026 21:23

Nah, discussed this earlier. He’s well off and generous so not in it for money.

Can you get him on here to answer some questions?Grin An AmA of sorts!

You would date someone aged 18 when you are 48 and you don’t find that problematic in any way? 😳

a 66 yr old with a 36 yr old is vastly different from a 48 yr old with an 18 yr old. 🙄

CatesandAle · 29/06/2026 21:47

Why is it anyone’s business, they’re both consenting mature adults, focus on your own life

DistanceCall · 29/06/2026 21:47

TinyTempest · 28/06/2026 20:08

Ahh ok.

As long as neither of them suddenly wants more, it shouldn’t be a problem.

And if they want to shag like crazy, or fall in love, what's the problem?

Curious- what specific age does a 30 year gap become acceptable?

in what ways ? 18 you can join the army and get deployed to an active battlezone ?

Penny, I'm not gonna lie, it's been a long day and I'm not sure I can be arsed explaining the difference between a teenager and someone in their mid 30s.

they can be similar in many ways or they can be different in many ways
they can connect via mutal hobbies, intrests, etc

even when its eg 25 and 25 there is not garentee that they have the same thoughts hobbies intrests etc

yes to a point i do agree and i am playing devils advocate on the issue buit overall age itself does not mean that a person does not know their own mind, even more so when its the younger one chasing the older one,

shockmethen · 29/06/2026 22:26

59 yr old here with a very fun and casual situationship with a 28 yr old.
yes I look great. Yes he is hot. Yes it’s crazy good sex and we enjoy spending time with each other before and after the sex.

bornwithhorns · 29/06/2026 22:34

I’m 51 the amount of 30 years olds
i get messaging from online dating is ihugher than any other age group.
i think maybe it’s the fact we are pretty sorted and not wanting to settle down and have kids obviously that maybe attract them , I don’t know.
i don’t because my daughter is 30 so feels a bit too near the bone for me so i tend to respond to 40s up

bornwithhorns · 29/06/2026 22:35

Sorry the point was I bet he’s having a great time ! Enjoy seeing him happy even if it is only for a short while

Beeloux · 29/06/2026 22:41

PintofFizz · 29/06/2026 20:56

How about relationships where the couple are equal. Both contribute equally or sometimes he contributes more, sometimes she contributes more. I'm guessing a lot of relationships are like that.

Men don’t have to endure possibly life threatening situations which come with carrying a child.

Until they do, my opinion will remain the same.

Far too many men these days expect a woman to contribute 50/50 financially whilst also doing the majority of the housework and childbearing.

I should have said as long as they’re on the same page.

I worded it badly.
