I really enjoyed the thread started by @openthefrontdoorthe other week which was a different take on those boring threads where someone posted a photo.

So I thought I’d start one myself. Not sure I’ll be quite as eloquent but I’ll give it my best shot to drop some random facts

  1. Growing up, my dad was clean shaven but for a most fantastic bushy moustache which he took great pride in.

  2. Our 1 tv in the house through most of my early years was rented from Radio Rentals and had a wire on the tv remote connecting it.

  3. My most treasured Christmas present ever was a Tiny Tears doll that could cry and wet herself

Did you watch Andy Pandy/Bill and Ben the flowerpot men or the Magic Roundabout when you were very small? Or were you a playschool watcher and did you get to see Morph on TV? Were Valerie Singleton, Peter Purves and John Noakes on Blue Peter?

my favourite was Postman Pat but I also loved the magic roundabout and Rainbow

I bought a 3 bed house in south east London for £37,000, same as your parents. My purchase was in 1984, which would make you 41. You must be more than that as you watched the Generation Game, which ended before then.

loobylou10 · 28/06/2026 12:17

59

crypticandmachiavellian · 28/06/2026 12:19

55, I think you’re older than me but not that much.

PuppyMonkey · 28/06/2026 12:21

shutthefrontdooor · 28/06/2026 12:15

Didn’t watch either the series or the films!

Hmm. Very few girls my age would have missed Charlie’s Angels, so I’m going to reassess my guess of 59. Postman Pat also suggests a good deal younger…it only came out in the early 1980s. I’ll go 52.

SeaGlassDreamer · 28/06/2026 12:21

After the Postman Pat reference I’m changing my guess from 52 to 47.

  1. Having read more of the updates, Im changing my guess to 52
Itiswhysofew · 28/06/2026 12:24

Did you watch The Moomins?
Was Magpie on TV when you were young?
Starsky & Hutch?
Postman Pat started on TV early 80s.
Who was your Dr Who?

shutthefrontdooor · 28/06/2026 12:25
  1. When the National Lottery was launched my parents hosted a big gathering of friends and family to watch Noel Edmund’s run a ‘it’s a knockout’ type event to chose the first person to push the button

Postman Pat started in 1981 according to Google. I might change my guess again now - I think you’re 50. Born in the great summer of 76.

HurtleTurtle30 · 28/06/2026 12:27

Same age as me - 46

This is a bit confusing I think. If you watched Rainbow and Magic Roundabout as a child, you would have been watching Postman Pat as an adult (well, by late teens/working age.) Postman Pat wasn't out til a decade after the other two, and would have been watched by a different generation of children to Rainbow and Magic Roundabout wouldn't it?

I'll still keep my guess as 61 based on much of the stuff you've been saying.

Yes watched the Moomins but only occasionally, didn’t love it.
No idea what Magpie was. Aware of Stasky and Hutch but never watched. Never ever watched Dr Who as Darleks did (and still do) terrify me!

I watched Rainbow as a child in the early 80s. I think Magic Roundabout was before my time.

Confused

You don’t seem to have watched much on your Radio Rentals telly.

Trampauline · 28/06/2026 12:33

65

Gwenhwyfar · 28/06/2026 12:33

Who said 'ooo Betty'? (I watched this on repeats)

Who said 'oh Miss Jones' while trying to seduce her?

Problem is that all these programmes get repeated...

Hmmm, yeah, watching Postman Pat, and never having heard of Magpie has made me wonder if the OP is actually younger than 61 now (the age I suggested,) like maybe about 50-52. (Born mid 1970s.) But some of the things she is saying is screaming 'born in the mid 1960s.')

I'm definitely a bit confused! Doesn't take much! 😆 I guess I'll have stick with 61 as it was my first answer...
