WIBU to work from home to go to the beach?

peachyhead · 25/06/2026 13:14

I live near the beach. Usually can't wfh but occasionally I can e.g. if I am getting work done at home or have an appointment. Would it be unreasonable to ask to wfh for the day tomorrow so I can go to the beach at lunchtime? I might stay out a little longer but will have my phone/laptop with me.

Their nonstop posts getting increasingly frantic and asking me the same questions repeatedly maybe?

You’re meant to be working now
you are mumsnetting
do you feel guilty about that?

1985goingbackagain · 25/06/2026 16:28

Trying to work at a beach sounds hellish to me, even worse in extreme heat. I don’t think laptops and sand are a good combo. If you want to go to the beach then do it and make up your time - don’t drag your laptop there in the pretence of working though.

No I don't, why do you care so much?

I was planning on sitting in a cafe on the beach to actually do work, not sit on the sand working.

This has been thoroughly covered, or did you not see/understand that bit?

It turns out @peachyhead is only planning on being at the beach for an hour over her lunch break!

But feels the need to tell everyone on mumsnet.

Per my op, my company doesn't really allow us to wfh other than if we have some kind of reasonable excuse

And if they find out people are abusing the system and lying they will probably stop working from home altogether.

So you’ve lied about tomorrow

and then spent the afternoon today when you’re meant to be working… mumsnetting

Right. I don’t imagine this employer would be sad if you decided to hand your notice in @peachyhead !

Right. I don’t imagine this employer would be sad if you decided to hand your notice in @peachyhead !

As mentioned above I frequently work outside of my hours which allows my days to be fairly flexible.

I'm a valued employee so I imagine they would be somewhat sad, although as others have mentioned it's work and I'm sure they'd replace me in a week if I died tomorrow, hence why I don't have any qualms about going to the beach/mumsnetting/etc. I'd be a bit sad if I spent my afternoon off on MN, however.

In any event I had a look at your comments on others' posts on here and can see that you are a generally antagonistic commenter so I'd really suggest you get a hobby.

Sure you are op 😆

enjoy your one hour trip to the beach tomorrow! You deserve it xx 🏖️

Iheartmysmart · 25/06/2026 17:26

I always work from home and today I spent two hours sat by the lake opposite my flat with a picnic and a cold glass of wine. It’s 30.7 degrees in my flat and much cooler over there. My boss doesn’t care as long as the work gets done, he often disappears during the day to do the school run and makes the time up when it suits him.

Enjoy your trip to the beach OP.

Stealth post about how moderate the temp is in your flat! 😆

South facing, bank of windows, and Meaco thermometer read 35

Well based on my performance reviews and career growth I’d say so
