This cake looks lovely!

Homemade cakes all the way, so much love and effort put in, well done

Ileithyia · Yesterday 18:51

Not at all. Any 8 year old would be happy with that

TheCheekyHare · Yesterday 18:54

Looks good to me.

PrettyLittleRose · Yesterday 18:57

I don't understand people saying this is a stealth brag? Why is it?

If my 8 year old had a few friends over for a party she would be happy with that.

I love it but how did you ID it as a capybara?! No matter, I would like a like please.

Bikergran · Yesterday 19:07

As long as it tastes good, the 8 year olds will love it. If you have snooty mums attending, they will sneer at it.

NinjaCoffee · Yesterday 19:08

My 7yo would LOVE this!

blutoo · Yesterday 19:13

I think it's lovely. Not embarrassing at all. I'd happily have that for my birthday or serve it for a child's party.

creeeepy · Yesterday 19:18

It looks great, have confidence.

MindThePause · Yesterday 19:20

Bloody hell I’d be over the moon if I’d been organised enough to order in something that nice for a party.

And pigs would be flying past the window while hell went ice skating if I made anything that fab with my own 2 hands.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · Yesterday 19:22

I don’t know how to vote. But no, I would not be embarrassed to serve that cake. And I would be very pleased to receive it!

ErinAoife · Yesterday 19:23

Not at all. I think the cake looks great

carchi · Yesterday 19:25

It's chocolate what's not to love. But seriously it's going to be cut up and enjoyed. I would happily pass it off as my own.

Newbabynewhouse · Yesterday 19:29

It's lovely, not a masterpiece 😀 but cute for an 8th birthday it's very thoughtful x

If it's homemade - it's delightful! If I paid good money for it - I'd be wanting a discount!

lilaccamille · Yesterday 19:30

Amazing and fun!

Mcoco · Yesterday 19:34

Its really cute. My only concern is it melting!

Lilacblu · Yesterday 19:36

What's wrong with it? I think it's cheery!! 😀🌟

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · Yesterday 19:38

It's a perfectly lovely cake OP. Homemade cakes are the best imho - and mine were much more clumsily iced than yours. But the dcs loved them and they were made with love. Hope she has a great party.

TheDenimPoet · Yesterday 19:39

Nope, it's brilliant!

I hate how cakes have become so performative. Don't get me wrong, some of the cakes people can create are phenomenal, and yes, I've bought some for big birthdays of family members.. but looking back to my childhood, all of my cakes were homemade, and none of them looked as "good" as yours - yet they were completely fine, as the unfair expectation just wasn't there!

Remember they're for people to eat - not just for social media photos.

exaltedwombat · Yesterday 19:45

Depends on the kid. Some can do ‘cute’. Some would find it embarrassingly babyish.

Triskellion75 · Yesterday 19:46

That looks bloody amazing!

I must admit, I was expecting to see a pic of a cock cake or something when I opened the thread.

PeapodBurgundy · Yesterday 20:11

It looks gooey and delicious. It's obviously home made, but I love to see that. I make my children's cakes too, they're always rough, some still cute, but I'm still haunted my the butterfly that looked like a vulva!! However bad I think the cakes have turned out, they love them anyway. My baking is infinitely better than my decorating, so they're always enjoyed when it comes to eating.

I agree with the PP (perhaps you??) who said home made cake is usually tastier than professionally done ones that have gone overboard on the decorations so all you taste is icing/frosting.

I would be thrilled to receive that cake and to be served a slice.
