I love it

SevenYellowHammers · Yesterday 13:11

Not if it’s an 8th birthday party!

Runnermumof2 · Yesterday 14:07

Embarrassed? It's brilliant!! Well done !!

I like it a lot. It's perfect for a child, but I'd be grateful for it, too. I'd be grateful for anyone who cared enough to get me a birthday cake.

Except perhaps this one...this is a baby shower cake that Amy Schumer had: (shudder)

I’ve seen worse baby shower cakes than that with flaps and blood the works. There was even one doing a 💩.

It is amazing, you can see the love in it. My sister is a brilliant baker, I am a good cook but get bored and hate measuring things.
this is my ‘snowman’ cake from a Christmas past. My now adult boys always reminisce about the Rasta snowman

😂😂😂

Bluedenimdoglover · Yesterday 16:14

Yes ,- bit I hate mucky cakes. Too sickly.

Grim!

I look at peoples cakes on facebook and although they are lovely I feel so much more thought and love has gone into a home made cake. I NEVER buy cakes .(sorry cake decorators) I used to buy those asda ones with a photo on it but now the kids are getting older they choose a supermarket cake or in my daughters case she bakes her own .

ChocoChocoLatte · Yesterday 18:17

Did you pay someone to make it? Easy question

2old2Nonsense · Yesterday 18:18

Again, I'm not clear on why OP's on Mumsnet refuse to provide context and responders don't need seem to need it to make horribly uninformed decisions.

As to your question. If this cake is for a funeral, probably. For a young boy's birthday party, maybe not. A wedding cake, absolutely.

See, context.

DetectiveDouche · Yesterday 18:21

I'd be very proud to have made it! But being as i once stuffed a failed Victoria sandwich with Jaffa cakes to make it an acceptable height , I guess my bar is low

MamasnotPapas · Yesterday 18:24

The best reaction from your 8 year old. That’s all that matters .I made a Pokémon cake about 30 years ago and I was chuffed with the outcome .
Also it’s an original!

It's fun

LightningTree · Yesterday 18:25

Perfect for an 8 year old. Wouldn’t refuse a slice my self!

Missingpop · Yesterday 18:26

Well it’s not exactly a professional make; but it could be tidied up a bit more & made to look less busy.
I’d remove all of the decorations & pop a long knife or if you have one a proper cake spatulas in hot water dry it of & quickly smooth it keep doing this all over a nice smooth cake always looks more appealing; then if you have enough flowers place them round the base not overlapping; pop one decoration on the side of the cake (standing at the side & one on the opposite side one the first cake this leaves the top for the cake topper & the candle & hey presto the cake looks less busy but you’ve used all of your decorations but have strategically placed them instead of just chucking them at the cake xx Happy Birthday to your little one xx hope she has a great time xx

A home made cake is never embarrassing

TinyTarna · Yesterday 18:26

The cake looks lovely. I would be delighted if someone made that for me.

FloweryMamaLady · Yesterday 18:27

Are we losing sight of what is important in life now? The cake you have made with so much love, time and effort is worth a thousand shop bought ones. I love it. Well done ☺️

lostfather666 · Yesterday 18:28

Im an ex trainee baker better than I could have done

ThatLemonBee · Yesterday 18:29

I really like that cake the only one thing I often find a bit silly is super small cakes ( nota a criticism to you as no idea how big of a party it is ) . I went to a birthday party recently where 20 kids where invited and they wonky had q basic spidermqn small Tesco cake

BordersMumof4 · Yesterday 18:29

I think its cute!

Merrycritictime · Yesterday 18:32

Brilliant cake I’d be thrilled to bits to serve it and presumably the kids’ even more so. Yum! It’s fab 💕

WoosMama13 · Yesterday 18:33

I'm an adult and would be made up with this myself!
My mum made many of my cakes, I've made most of my daughter's too. Time and effort is a show of love. And the homemade ones are often better remembered than shop bought or bakery made, because of how unique and personal they are. I am aware it's not for everyone to make you're own, so not slagging anyone off.

To all the people picking OP apart, carry on about your lives. Continue to buy your cakes or be happy with how perfect your home bakes are. But don't be mean.

Hope your daughter has a brilliant birthday!

emanresu3 · Yesterday 18:34

Cant stand chocolate cake. Cake is cake and chocolate is chocolate. Why mix them up. Hard to find a good cake these days unless homemade.

YABU. The cake looks perfectly lovely for an 8 year old. I can't see any reason why you or they would find it embarrassing ❤️
