Of course not. Why would it be?

Anyone who is less than enthusiastic about your daughter’s cake shouldn’t get any of it.

SO overwhelmed by all the lovely comments! 🥺
It’s so nice to hear people saying positive things, thank you!

Showed it Dd, let her open the fridge whilst I was in the other room, she shouted ‘Oh my god!’ 😂

Me: ‘Is it ok?’ 😬

Her: ‘It’s not ok….It’s amazing!!!’

Phew 😅

Awww. That's lovely.

@Juststickitonthetopandcallitaday

You love your daughter sooo much that for her birthday you had this amazing cake made for her and threw her a lovely party.

If that isn’t I just love you so much, well, I just don’t know what is.

I just know you and your girl will always have the most amazing and special and wonderful and loving relationship your whole livelong lives.

Maybe this cake is a reminder to hold on tight to your little girl as she blows out the candles.
My mum told me that the time she watched me grow up seemed liked 20 minutes.
And I miss my mum.

Time flies, cakes will come and go, but you will be the one constant in each other’s lives.
I’m sending you love from faraway. ❤️

How old is your daughter? What kind of birthday party is it?

Shellyshep · Yesterday 20:41

I wouldn’t be happy to serve it if I had paid a professional cake maker to make it as it looks homemade. If it is a homemade cake you have made yourself then I would happily serve it as that’s what it looks like…

It looks gooey and delicious. It's obviously home made, but I love to see that. I make my children's cakes too, they're always rough, some still cute, but I'm still haunted my the butterfly that looked like a vulva!! However bad I think the cakes have turned out, they love them anyway. My baking is infinitely better than my decorating, so they're always enjoyed when it comes to eating.

I agree with the PP (perhaps you??) who said home made cake is usually tastier than professionally done ones that have gone overboard on the decorations so all you taste is icing/frosting.

I would be thrilled to receive that cake and to be served a slice.

Yeah, “gooey” just what you need at a kids’ birthday party. Especially if it’s being wrapped up to take home, but been just to give to them on a plate. That’s a cake that can’t be eaten cleanly by any kid.

IMakeCrapCakes · Yesterday 20:51

I think It's gorgeous! But then I would, wouldn't I 😆

No, seriously it is very cute.

I would love that level of skill.

IMakeCrapCakes · Yesterday 20:53

I won't contribute to the gallery but I do have a thread I started on here about cakes. Mine ARE embarrasing! In a sense.

I am just reading the thread now and love the tales of home-made cake. My Mother was no artist but I loved her cakes, back in the 80s when not everyhing had to be perfection Smile

Wieralmostthere · Yesterday 21:02

No. It’s cute. Why, has someone said something? 😠

Gonners · Yesterday 21:03

My mother rarely made cakes, except at Christmas. Two problems with that: first, she used generous quantities of candied peel, which I really dislike. Then she topped it with a thick layer of marzipan, which both my father and I absolutely loathed. She claimed that if she didn't do this, the icing wouldn't stick properly. But ... wait for it ... she never once iced the damned thing!

Guess who ate the cake?

pb97 · Yesterday 21:13

It would depend on what they were expecting. If they were expecting a Red power Ranger cake, then yes, it probably would be embarrassing.

With children, expectation is often the most important thing, you could give them a six level chocolate cake signed by Taylor Swift, but if what they really wanted was one from Tesco like their best friend had the week before, they'd probably be really upset.

Retiredfromearlyyears · Yesterday 21:21

Its a fun cake for an 8 year old. Its not an embarrassment at all. I love it!,

nutbrownhare15 · Yesterday 21:26

My ten year old thinks it's cute

Brainstorm23 · Yesterday 21:33

My daughter is capybara mad and would love it. At 8 year old the other kids don't care what the cake looks like as long as they get a big slice and the same goes for the parents.

ThisMellowCat · Yesterday 21:36

Have you asked your daughter what she thinks?
here’s some ideas to make it better.
✅ Smooth & tidy frosting gently

• Warm your metal spatula/knife under hot water, wipe dry, then lightly glide over ridges and messy spots — melt the chocolate frosting just enough to blend uneven texture without ruining flowers or toppers. Do sides first, then the top.

✅ Fix wobbly/leaning toppers

• Tuck a tiny pea‑sized dot of extra frosting/royal icing behind each capybara figure, candle ring, and the card sign to lock them upright and level; no need to lift them fully.

✅ Elevate the flowers

• Add 1 tiny dot of edible pearl/white sugar pearl, gold lustre dust, or contrasting sprinkle right on each flower centre — instantly looks polished. Lightly brush petal edges with a dry clean brush to wipe stray frosting smudges.

✅ Clean the base edge

• Run a toothpick wrapped in a tiny bit of kitchen paper along where cake meets plate to wipe smears; keep the bottom neat.

I don't understand people saying this is a stealth brag? Why is it?

If only 🤣

Yes I’d be embarrassed. My 11 yo daughter just said it’s awful I’m afraid! Looks tasty but is pretty messy.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 23/06/2026 17:14

Sometimes less is more.

I guess all the flowers randomly stuck on it are to hide the poor icing.

Too many things stuck on the top of the cake, did it really need 5 ? or is the capybara actually stuck on the number 8.

Such an unnecessary unpleasant comment. I think the cake looks great and clearly so do the majority of other commenters.

Chagalaga23 · Yesterday 22:06

Fabulous cake!
Well done!
My 8 !year olds (3 of them in turn) have all been thrilled withy highly individualistic attempts and yours will be too! X

Plmnki · Yesterday 22:08

OMG OP I love this cake! Top work!

I think the party will be fab.

i cannot get over the sheer number of snobbish cunty comments on here. Some people are such utter arseholes.

please believe in yourself (sorry, that sounds like a 1970s folk song) and have a lovely party. Anyone who thinks your cake is not 100% lovely is an arse. Fact.

Seriously: Great cake!

Lookingbackconfused · Yesterday 22:08

Glad your daughter loves it. My 12yo DD said it's looks good & she'd be happy with it 😁
