Would you be embarrassed to serve it at a party?

It’s a beautiful cake.

Embarrassed? I’d be putting it on my CV! It looks great OP.

nixon1976 · Yesterday 14:45

If you made it, you've done a great job! I love it

We need the back story OP! Who made the cake? Who claimed it was embarrassing? Was it paid for?

If you take all the decor away then yes, it does look like a pretty wonky cake but that's not an issue at all if it's your own child's birthday party. Looks like it was made with love and tastes good. If you paid for the cake then it's a different story.

ExOptimist · Yesterday 14:48

It looks like a nice homemade cake, very suitable for an 8 year old.

But definitely made by an amateur. I would not have paid for a professional to make a cake like that.

Same!

No, it's one of the better amateur cakes I've seen. It looks perfectly fine, and I'd be more than happy to show it off at a kid's party.

Juststickitonthetopandcallitaday · Yesterday 14:50

You are all too kind as it’s quite obviously homemade 🤣
Dd having Capybara themed party, so not too babyish, but she’s going through a weird phase where she’s starting to get embarrassed by things, not sure if she’ll be disappointed and just really hate the thought of me embarrassing her.
We live in a very wealthy area and all custom made cakes, which I’ve had before, but have spent a lot on the venue and also sort of fed up with the perfect ones.
But I also feel sick at the thought of presenting this and am cringing a lot 😬 and wondering why I didn’t just go with the easier option!

Its fine. I said yanbu but your question was negative so maybe I should have said yabu?

Arlanymor · Yesterday 14:51

It looks like a nice, homemade cake going a bit melty in the heat. I don't really understand the concept of being embarrassed by a cake for an eight-year old. Ten seconds after the candle is blown out it's in people's tummies anyway - how it tastes the really important thing.

Peachylove802 · Yesterday 14:52

Homemade cakes are so much better.

I was 40 and lived in a quite well-off area, but I had a homemade Hello Kitty birthday for my 40th!

But, no, it doesn't look particularly babyish to me. It's sort of cutesy in that way that a lot of teenagers love.

Londonwelshie · Yesterday 14:53

It’s lovely for a homemade cake - I actually think the imperfections make it cuter as shows the love that went into it.

if it was a professional cake then that would be different as you would expect a professional finish for your money, but still absolutely fine to serve/ present at a party.

MyArtfulGreySloth · Yesterday 14:55

Looks like a lovely homemade cake to me.

Smartiepants79 · Yesterday 14:56

It looks delicious. And cute. Perfectly lovely for an 8 year olds birthday.
If my 8 year old dared to be embarrassed of my hard work and love she’d be getting short shrift from me.

Applesonthelawn · Yesterday 14:57

I think kids would love it - chocolatey, messy, over the top - so I'd be delighted with it on their behalf.

Poppingby · Yesterday 14:57

Homemade chocolate buttercream (which I presume this is) is so much nicer than any other icing. It looks delicious. If she's embarrassed about it she's just picked that to be embarrassed about and something else has been randomly spared as the object of embarrassment. Also a tip from a parent of teenagers - do not try to not be embarrassing or do embarrassing things. You will never ever succeed so you may as well enjoy your embarrassing self.

Comtesse · Yesterday 14:57

Looks lovely but stick it in the fridge before the icing melts!

Applesonthelawn · Yesterday 14:58

When my boys were young they used to love what they called "roadkill cake" which looked far messier and more amateur than your lovely efforts!

WorriedAnxiousAndStressed · Yesterday 14:59

I love it because I love capybaras! Im in my 40s 😁

MandemChickenShop · Yesterday 14:59

id eat that b'stard, then id get on the bus home from your rich area and spill all over the passenger next to me. that's what I would do.

REP22 · Yesterday 15:00

Absolutely amazing cake. Good to eat AND to look at,

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · Yesterday 15:00

My son loves capybaras so I showed him and he said it’s amazing.

I’d remove the thing in front of the 8 candle but that’s literally all I’d change. It’s a lovely cake.

MissVerucaSalt · Yesterday 15:01

It looks a little bit like the poo emoji, but it’s not without charm!

Would I serve it? Honestly no, but that’s purely because it’s not my style of baking, and I don’t like to put non-edible items on cake. What matters is if the 8yo in question likes it!

M103 · Yesterday 15:01

My 8 year old would absolutely love this!!! And so would all her mates.
