Would you be embarrassed to serve it at a party?

It's pretty awful tbh. But it is what it is and it's just a cake.

Christ. Would you have a day off?

TwoBagsOfCompost · 23/06/2026 23:32

Omg I’d be delighted if I had made this! Looks great OP ✌🏻

SO overwhelmed by all the lovely comments! 🥺
It’s so nice to hear people saying positive things, thank you!

Showed it Dd, let her open the fridge whilst I was in the other room, she shouted ‘Oh my god!’ 😂

Me: ‘Is it ok?’ 😬

Her: ‘It’s not ok….It’s amazing!!!’

Phew 😅

Hurrah!!!!! What an awesome mum you are!!! And what a gorgeous DD!!!

Lovely looking cake.

I always pimp a cake rather than buy a ridiculously expensive made one. Yours looks fab. A woman after my own heart! This was my ‘best’ effort recently and I thought it looked shit 🤣 but everyone loved it. Was also gluten free for family allergies - two M n S free from Victoria sponges stuck together. Total cost - about a tenner.

That's a great idea!

I like it a lot. It's perfect for a child, but I'd be grateful for it, too. I'd be grateful for anyone who cared enough to get me a birthday cake.

Except perhaps this one...this is a baby shower cake that Amy Schumer had: (shudder)

I'll add, @Juststickitonthetopandcallitaday that my mum bought my birthday cake from the local bakery most years. The one that I remember best, however, is the one that she made for me herself - plain pink icing with my name and "Happy Birthday" on it in white icing.

It felt very special.

I love that. My mum made me a Superted cake but only had round cake tins, so he was a bit ‘flouncy’ around his midriff and had John Wayne legs. To this day the best cake I have ever eaten - made with love, care and optimism. Never had a better cake since, genuinely.

There’s a photo of it somewhere! I’ll try to grab it when I see them again next month. It’s brilliant but also so wonky! Also my mum hates baking - hates it! Hates cooking in general if we are to be honest! So there she was at midnight trying to get SuperTed to be less bandy legged for the morning! Best cake ever - she even piped his little crest! And now she’s 77 so I bake for her and when I saw her on the weekend I took her four flavours jam tarts and Anzac biscuits!

WearyAuldWumman · Yesterday 01:41

@Arlanymor Brilliant!

@Arlanymor Brilliant!

I daren’t turn up empty-handed these days - they need a bit of something home baked to go with their ‘paned’ (cup of Welsh tea!)

Oh dear Lord, that is the stuff of nightmares. WTF in their right mind would think that anyone would want to eat any part of that monstrosity.

Apparently it was a gift from her sister-in-law, so I guess they have the same sense of humour!

I'm 46 and would be ecstatic to get this cake. But I'm also a huge capybara fan so I would love it

bittertwisted · Yesterday 05:37

It is amazing, you can see the love in it. My sister is a brilliant baker, I am a good cook but get bored and hate measuring things.
this is my ‘snowman’ cake from a Christmas past. My now adult boys always reminisce about the Rasta snowman

Are you worried it doesn't look "aesthetic" as some older girls would say - I don't think I would be concerned at this at 8. My 8 yo would be unconcerned. Though we do live in an area where expensive cake orders are not the norm. I love making my kids cakes but my decoration is similar to yours, often plastic toys and butter cream 😅

If she loves a Capybara (and 8yos seem to) then I think it's cute rather than uncool. The cool thing infuriates me, my DD's friends will slate so much that then goes out of favour 😂 But I have yet to hear negativity about anyone's cake out of the mouths of my DD or her mates

My 5 year old loves capybaras. It looks great. I'd be proud to have made that

I was expecting it to look like a big willy or something else rude.

It's a bit OTT but totally fine. Looks yummy, where can I get a piece?

Cannot be arsed doing any of that!

Looks like a normal homemade cake to me. Which means it’s likely to be more tasty than a perfect bought one with fondant icing. I wouldn’t re-ice (I also don’t have the skills anyway). Be proud! You’ve got better things to do.

By “I also don’t have the skills anyway”, the ‘also’ was referring to me not being arsed AND not having the skills. Not me AND you both not having skills 😂
