Getting rage about this effing weather

MagdelenaMorrison · 10/06/2026 17:16

I am so angry.
Typing this with yet another torrential rain downpour as we speak. Left my back door open when it was dry clear sky weather and went upstairs to put laundry away, came back down to a black sky, monsoon downpour and a flooded kitchen floor from the rain being blown into my kitchen by howling wind. This is the 4th torrential downpour of the day. All 4 monsoon like.
So far in the SE we have had 10 days straight of torrential rain and battering winds, except for a light reprieve on Sunday but even that was bloody freezing cold. Over the past week I've watched the ferocious hurricane like winds blast all my different roses in full bloom off of their stems, it's snapped all my foxgloves in half, snapped branches off my Budleia, snapped all the stems off of my Salvias, tore my 2 hanging baskets off my wall and landed them across my garden, ruined. I've had my wheelie bins blown from my driveway down the street on their sides, crashing into neighbours' cars. One of our big heavy roof tiles got ripped off by gale force winds on Saturday and landed on our drive and smashed to smithereens, thank God none of us were standing on the drive at the time. I can't hang any washing out cos it won't stop raining.
I put all our coats away during the brief mini heatwave in half term and now we're all wearing them again.
I hate, hate, hate this weather. 10 days of it in June!!!!! Summer!!!!
Just looked at the forecast for tomorrow and it's rain all day again.
I can't cope, it's making me really miserable. Our summers are already short enough as it is, without this.
We didn't even have a warm May (except for the 1 week of half term). 😤

YABU.

I looked at the stats for London. April and May had less than 20% of normal rainfall. May was also much hotter (2.7 degrees) than normal.

So cooler/rainier weather is much needed.

Edited

Because of course London is the bellwether for all other regions of the UK weather....DILLIGAFAL.

Mumsnetters shouldn’t moan about heat when it does happen. It kills the sun fairies. The few remaining have taken their revenge over the last fortnight.

Stop moaning about the heat!

No rain due today, making the most of the wind to get bedding dry.

Falafelouisa · 13/06/2026 12:11

Gloves went on early this morning for dog walking. Phone says it’s 13 but feels like 7 ☹️

Judellie · 13/06/2026 17:31

My mum's birthday was 11 June, bless her. It nearly always rained on her birthday and I'm in my fifties now. It's just windy here in the north east (England) tho rain keeps threatening. It's been dry enough for me ot cut the grass tho.

Blimey, I’min denim shorts and a vest top. It’s 20 here and lovely with a little breeze. South west England. But then I looked at the weather for the week and it’s wet from Monday 😭 I love the sun.

I’m in north east Scotland so understandably colder, but not this cool! It was nice in the sun but it’s the cold wind that does it. Fingers x for at least a short summer soon!

I bloody loved a heatwave! We’re not going on holiday this year (dc have all had fab holidays with school and friends) as we’re having the bathroom done then dd1 starts uni and the costs scare me, so I need a sunny August or I’ll be a massive grump.

Cherrytree86 · 14/06/2026 08:55

Manifesting a looooooong heat wave

notnorman · 14/06/2026 09:06

It’s a bad El Niño year

PauliesWalnuts · 14/06/2026 14:20

Reservoir levels are very full up here in the NW due to the amount of rainfall we’ve had the past few months. Thirlmere is a huge body of water and the level is less than 2m from the top https://www.unitedutilities.com/help-and-support/your-water-supply/your-reservoirs/reservoir-levels/

I don’t want much - I’m just sick of cycling to work in the rain.

They had better not dare mention drought. They’ll try - the zealots will start on “worst drought ever” when they think we’ve forgotten how this year began.

Yorkshire Water will still claim a drought.

I wonder if OP is still incandescent?

Totallyfrazzledmum · 14/06/2026 22:27

Still cold here / a bit of sun but light jacket on.

RaraRachael · 10/06/2026 17:43

It's nice in NE Scotland 😄

Come on now, don't lie!
We had crazy downpours for the last two weeks! Saying that, I have my window open tonight cause I'm too hot!

ThePieceHall · 14/06/2026 22:34

I only had to wear a lightweight merino cardigan, plus a jacket, over my dress today. With socks and my Boston shearling Birkenstocks.

Cherrytree86 · 15/06/2026 12:19

It’s soooooooo shit

I'm not incandescent anymore.
I'm now more flat and sad. The energy from my anger has been replaced by apathy.
It was freezing Friday.
Dry and admittedly bright Sat so in the excitement of the rain and howling winds stopping I invited a few friends over for early evening drinks in the garden. By 7pm we all had our thick winter puffer coats on. One friend put kitted gloves on. By 9pm we were too freezing cold to stay outside despite our thick winter coats and perseverance.
Sunday was dry but very windy and I had a heavy cardigan and socks on all day.
Today I'm freezing all over again and we're back to the radiators being on this evening.
Still, it's the longest day of the year on Sunday which is great news as I can look forward to the evenings drawing in earlier and the days getting shorter again. And after that I can look forward to the hosepipe ban because we won't have had the 'right' rain.
Happy days.

😂 where do you live?! The Outer Hebrides?

We had a gorgeous weekend here in the south of England.

Falafelouisa · 16/06/2026 08:17

@Swiftie1878 NE Scotland here - just looked at forecast today’s temperature range is 10-14, feeling like 8-12, cloudy all day 😢. Puffa jacket, gloves and maybe a thin hat going on for walking dog shortly.

I thought that was pretty standard for Aberdeen/Inverness? Why does it feel so bad this year in particular?

No - it’s often 12 up in Shetland but normally up here May and June are the loveliest months. Rarely hot like the south but plenty of sunshine (the west is wetter but tends to be warmer). I like it around 18 as thst to me is perfect for gardening, dog walks, etc. The air just feels cool, cool wind, like April more like.

Not sure re Inverness but it can be a bit milder on the Moray Firth.

JacknDiane · 16/06/2026 09:54

We're in the west of Scotland. I got a real shock on Sunday, we were cold in the house, and fed up, but it was dry so we went a run to the coast...where it was very hot and sunny! I had my boots on and coat, I was melted. But the heating still had to go on for an hour at 9 when we got home.

I just dont know what to wear anymore.

Leavesandthings · 16/06/2026 18:35

If the wind gets to you, you might just be very sensitive to wind as well.

For me, strong winds give me a sort of motion sickness feeling and makes it hard to focus. (Tmi but I came in from being out in the wind recently and did actually throw up, woo).
