Getting rage about this effing weather

MagdelenaMorrison · 10/06/2026 17:16

I am so angry.
Typing this with yet another torrential rain downpour as we speak. Left my back door open when it was dry clear sky weather and went upstairs to put laundry away, came back down to a black sky, monsoon downpour and a flooded kitchen floor from the rain being blown into my kitchen by howling wind. This is the 4th torrential downpour of the day. All 4 monsoon like.
So far in the SE we have had 10 days straight of torrential rain and battering winds, except for a light reprieve on Sunday but even that was bloody freezing cold. Over the past week I've watched the ferocious hurricane like winds blast all my different roses in full bloom off of their stems, it's snapped all my foxgloves in half, snapped branches off my Budleia, snapped all the stems off of my Salvias, tore my 2 hanging baskets off my wall and landed them across my garden, ruined. I've had my wheelie bins blown from my driveway down the street on their sides, crashing into neighbours' cars. One of our big heavy roof tiles got ripped off by gale force winds on Saturday and landed on our drive and smashed to smithereens, thank God none of us were standing on the drive at the time. I can't hang any washing out cos it won't stop raining.
I put all our coats away during the brief mini heatwave in half term and now we're all wearing them again.
I hate, hate, hate this weather. 10 days of it in June!!!!! Summer!!!!
Just looked at the forecast for tomorrow and it's rain all day again.
I can't cope, it's making me really miserable. Our summers are already short enough as it is, without this.
We didn't even have a warm May (except for the 1 week of half term). 😤

i checked the long term forecast. It’s no heat wave!! Bit warmer but rain and clouds is showing on my app

The price of global warming. I don’t like the blasts of weather either (conservatory has leaked flooding a lot of my stuff/papers that I’m wading through) but sadly other’s problems are much greater than everything you and I are describing. I used to live in a place that now suffers terribly from wild fires owing to global warming. Everything was kindle owing to drier weather at the end of summer season and if it hadn’t rained by sept like it reliably used to, fires would catch and ravage areas. Friends with houses burned down, people died. Now this is an annual occurrence for them and it didn’t used to be. Global warming is awful, and that’s why - even if our contribution is minimal - we have to vote with our feet and try and live in a non-globalist consumerist way and try and protect the planet for those in the future to come. I mean I don't have much hope but it doesn't make it less important or less depressing. I agree with you on the frustration of the garden / roof front, but i think this is nothing compared what is to come.

StonwEd · 11/06/2026 14:36

I've got the right radge with it all as well. I'm yearning to sit on the beach with my book. To walk at 6am in the warmth instead of a hoodie.

I've got a lovely little garden for the first time in my life but i think I've sat out there 3 or 4 times so far as at work all week 9-5 so precious little weekend time yet other than that heat wave one when I was away anyway.

I'm so sad, it defo affects me mentally. I'm just sitting here in joggers on the first day of a week annual leave feeling blue.

East Anglia here. Fucking sucks.

Hotafternoon · 11/06/2026 15:01

It has rained all day here on South coast and my feet are feeling the chill. I'm wearing thick winter leggings and a fleece top that I had to dig out of storage to wear and I've even put the electric blanket back in the bed.

Roll on Saturday when it's all change ... hopefully! 😎

Doyouthinktheyknow · 11/06/2026 15:05

It’s horrible, Yanbu!

South coast here, just back from another wet walk, feeling really chilled. Could have done with gloves on my walk today, didn’t get warm at all!

It is improving Saturday but it’s miserable for June! The combination of strong winds and driving rain is horrible.

I’ve been wet more frequently on walks in the last few weeks than all through winter, it’s crazy

LittleRobins · 11/06/2026 15:10

I love this weather. It suits my miserable outlook on life at the moment! Plus it shuts the noisy neighbours up.

Itsasecretnow · 11/06/2026 15:24

Harassedmum123 · 10/06/2026 18:52

Totally agree. I love summer so much and feel so disappointed with the weather we have been dealt. I’m already panicking that it’s the longest day in just over a week’s time and then the nights will start drawing in. Is it too much to ask for just a few dry sunny days.

Oh god! I’d managed to forget about the longest day so far! I, too, find it really quite depressing, every year, but had managed to successfully put it out of my head so far, but now realising how close we are to it is just horrible ☹️ It isn’t even so much the weather, as such, it’s the realisation that the days are going to shorten, even before we’ve had our summer, and that it’s just generally downhill from there.
I know it’s every year, obviously, but for whatever reason it still gets me. Every year.

RaraRachael · 10/06/2026 17:43

It's nice in NE Scotland 😄

You’re joking right?

whirlyhead · 11/06/2026 15:33

I am in Spain. Can we have some of your rain please?

JacknDiane · 11/06/2026 15:34

I feel the same @MagdelenaMorrison.

Its wet and warm here, absolutely rubbish

JacknDiane · 11/06/2026 15:34

Falafelouisa · 11/06/2026 15:27

Its always nice up there

I will gladly send bucket loads of rain from the South Pennines to you and your plains. Would you like some gobstopper-sized hailstones too?

Falafelouisa · 11/06/2026 15:36

Today where I am it feels like 8 degrees and I’m also sick of it. Was hoping to economise on oil over the “summer” with the terrifying price of it, but no sign of being able to switch the heating off yet. Wearing thick woolly jumper and got a blanket over my legs as I WFH.

AnnieApples · 11/06/2026 15:37

Saturday looks good! As do the following days.

I’m so over it. My gorgeous plants are wrecked, I’m absolutely frozen. But 2 weeks ago, our lawn was brown, now it’s beautifully green once more.

Falafelouisa · 11/06/2026 15:37

JacknDiane · 11/06/2026 15:34

Ermmm it’s nice right enough but not always in weather terms!

HotWheel5 · 11/06/2026 15:44

Chinesedave · 10/06/2026 20:32

It is shit because whilst we are never ever assured lovely weather in the spring and summer (and by lovely I just mean warm and settled, not hot), we are ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED shitty weather (cold, wet and windy) in some form from October - April/May (and June apparently) 😭😭😭

Those saying they enjoy this shit are clearly not gardeners as whilst we need some rain occasionally, the wind, rain and hail has just destroyed most of the things I've been looking forward to since last year 😢😢

Totally agree. I don’t want it to be hot, but I wish May - August was a more guaranteed settled, 19-22 degrees with only light rain. I feel we ‘deserve’ it after the 7-8 months of late autumn/winter/early spring!

MidnightMeltdown · 11/06/2026 15:53

Sorry, summer has been cancelled this year ☹️

Livpool · 11/06/2026 15:58

I feel the same OP - it is making me depressed and my asthma is horrendous due to the damp and rain.

Hotafternoon · 11/06/2026 16:02

I'm trapped indoors and there are builders next door, hammering, drilling, grinding, it's been all day. 🙄😡

If today had been sunny, warm and not too breezy I would have gone down to the beach hut with my book.

I have months of this ahead of me, it's a big extension. 😥

PauliesWalnuts · 11/06/2026 16:13

whirlyhead · 11/06/2026 15:33

You need to go where the plain is - that’s where the rain mainly stays. ☺️

BogRollBOGOF · 11/06/2026 16:31

It's nice weather... for November.

I've just come home and stuck the heating on. The calendar says it's not central heating season at work so it's been chilly all week despite still being in my winter workwear.

We had a bright spell yesterday evening and I was astonished when it was still light-ish towards 10pm. The last couple of weeks have been so overcast that I've had lamps on from 8pm as it's become too dull.

RaininSummer · 11/06/2026 17:13

Yep been freezing at work as the bloody air con has been blowing cold air over me all day. Now home under heated blanket with central heating on to raise the temperature to about 19 degrees and finish some damp washing which didn't dry yesterday. Hope it's not going to be like this all summer like it was a few years ago.

WhatcakeshalIbaketoday · 11/06/2026 17:35

Hold your horses people, summer officially begins 21st June. Yes I know what the weather forecasters say the date is.

We'll just have warmer rain!

I'm fed up of it too - I'm away for a few days. Instead of packing a sun hat I've packed a woolly hat and cold weather gear

AInightingale · 11/06/2026 17:44

I was trying to spread butter on my son's toast this morning and it was really hard, despite sitting out in a butter dish all night. One that normally spreads easily at room temperature unless it's winter.
