Getting rage about this effing weather

MagdelenaMorrison · 10/06/2026 17:16

I am so angry.
Typing this with yet another torrential rain downpour as we speak. Left my back door open when it was dry clear sky weather and went upstairs to put laundry away, came back down to a black sky, monsoon downpour and a flooded kitchen floor from the rain being blown into my kitchen by howling wind. This is the 4th torrential downpour of the day. All 4 monsoon like.
So far in the SE we have had 10 days straight of torrential rain and battering winds, except for a light reprieve on Sunday but even that was bloody freezing cold. Over the past week I've watched the ferocious hurricane like winds blast all my different roses in full bloom off of their stems, it's snapped all my foxgloves in half, snapped branches off my Budleia, snapped all the stems off of my Salvias, tore my 2 hanging baskets off my wall and landed them across my garden, ruined. I've had my wheelie bins blown from my driveway down the street on their sides, crashing into neighbours' cars. One of our big heavy roof tiles got ripped off by gale force winds on Saturday and landed on our drive and smashed to smithereens, thank God none of us were standing on the drive at the time. I can't hang any washing out cos it won't stop raining.
I put all our coats away during the brief mini heatwave in half term and now we're all wearing them again.
I hate, hate, hate this weather. 10 days of it in June!!!!! Summer!!!!
Just looked at the forecast for tomorrow and it's rain all day again.
I can't cope, it's making me really miserable. Our summers are already short enough as it is, without this.
We didn't even have a warm May (except for the 1 week of half term). 😤

I bought some gorgeous Summer clothes. Most are yet to be worn. In a couple of months all the Winter clothes will be in the shops. It is indeed all rather depressing.

MagdelenaMorrison · 11/06/2026 22:57

Another shitting day of driving rain and howling winds.
Fucks sake.
I surrendered today and put the heating on. It's been on all day long. It was making me feel ill being freezing cold indoors for nearly 2 weeks. I've still had my winter chunky jumper on even with the heating on. I'm laying in bed as we speak and can hear the wind howling through the window. I'm in bloody Eastbourne for gods sake, not Moscow.
The surveyor from my insurance company visited today to see the damage the hurricane did by ripping off my roof tile on Saturday. Guess what, the insurance company won't pay out for the damage. So now I'm even more pissed off.

June Monsoon.

Well, i hope the people who cry when it's hot for two days have been loving this weather.

I promised I wouldn't moan about the heat this summer, especially after the extremely long, wet and grey winter we had.

When we had that heat for a week at the end of May I kept my promise. Internally I was a bit like wtf, because it literally went from 14c to 29c in a matter of days 🤣, but I didn't vocally moan. When it cooled down I was relieved a little, but bring it bloody back!

It's been a wet, dreary, grey day today where I am in West Yorks with temps hovering around 13c. I could've sworn I'd slept through summer and woken up in November.

YABU.

I looked at the stats for London. April and May had less than 20% of normal rainfall. May was also much hotter (2.7 degrees) than normal.

So cooler/rainier weather is much needed.

The OP lives in Eastbourne, the stats that you looked at are irrelevant.

The OP lives in Eastbourne, the stats that you looked at are irrelevant.

Its only 70 miles away.

May was classified as 'exceptionally warm across the UK' according to the met office.

I looked up rainfall stats for Eastbourne. April had almost no rain. May had below normal levels.

So not dissimilar to London stats as outlined above.

ScrambledTofuNeedsKalaNamak · 12/06/2026 00:12

I'm only 70 miles away from Blackpool, but we have significantly different weather. Eastbourne is also coastal.

Do you compare snowfall in London to say the Shetlands?

The OP is not being unreasonable at all. She lives in Eastbourne and has suffered horrible weather that has destroyed her garden and damaged her house.

ScrambledTofuNeedsKalaNamak · 12/06/2026 00:23

Also @CoffeeAndCats3 how rude are you?

Here's a link so you can educate yourself:

Shall we wait for the June stats to come out before we start accusing people of being less educated than yourself?

If it makes you feel better we're on our summer holiday in Wales

If it weren't for the jet stream we would be a hell of a lot more cold.

You may not have meant to sound rude, but this did come across as a bit rude towards ScrambledTofu.

surely it is mid summer on 21st June

pinkpostitnote · 12/06/2026 06:25

A cricket match in Buxton was snowed off in June once.

MagdelenaMorrison · 12/06/2026 06:45

Well another morning and another greeting of strong winds and grey sky.
Heating is on.
The forecast does look dry and bright next week but the temperature is looking quite mild for the time of year. And the longer range forecast says rain is expected again the week after on the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th (BBC weather).

Yes and we will miss it when it’s gone…

Hotafternoon · 12/06/2026 08:50

It's grey, dreary and pretty breezy today but so far, no rain.

Yesterday I had the heating on and electric blanket for when I went to bed.

Praying that the good weather that is supposed to start tomorrow actually does. I have fair bit of washing to do and would like to get it dry without having to do it indoors or use the tumble dryer.

It's not much to ask for the month of June is it? 🙄

DappledThings · 12/06/2026 08:54

Muggy and warm this morning. And it's Sports Day. Far better overcast than beating sun and heat for that. I'm very happy with today.

ScreamingCyclist · 12/06/2026 10:03

I moved to Wales last August after almost thirty years in London . People are great and the nature is great when it’s not raining. I have never ever encountered so much biblical rain in all my life, week after week, month after month . It is depressing, sole destroying , has always been so ferociously wet in Wales?

Add to that Public transport is almost non existent , you voted in Labour for 27 years, Why? WTF did they do for Wales ? Broke your economy, no public transport and 20 mph zones . Sorry Wales but you seriously fucked up . You can’t blame the English for that one as much as we Celts like too. I don’t know what I hate more : the rain, no public transport and, you voted out Labour only to replace them with Plaed Cymru, Wales what are you thinking???

TheWildZebra · 12/06/2026 10:06

It’s terrible and depressing - but if it makes you THAT angry maybe channel it towards the governments abysmal plans for climate adaptation. Yes, torrential rain and your roof being unable to withstand it, is part of that.

we should be livid! We’re unprepared and meanwhile no one does anything.

Your reply was dripping with sarcasm and hyperbole 'Do you compare snowfall in London to the Shetlands?'

My response gave you the same courtesy.

Totallyfrazzledmum · 12/06/2026 10:47

No heatwave incoming in herts - cloudy and mild from weekend then more rain !!!!!!

Deleted as am not sure about pp, now.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 12/06/2026 20:25

Blooming windy and cool again today! I thought warmer weather was coming but not today apparently🤨

I’m doing a 20+ mile walk in the South Downs tomorrow and was hoping for some warmth, not looking too promising for early morning when I’ll be setting off😩
