'Afghan men 'fled UK in lorry after raping girl'

Mobile phone footage recovered from Safi's phone showed the men in the lorry laughing and gesticulating, which Hetherington said suggested they thought they "got away with it".

When they were found by French police in Calais on 3 December, they were returned to the UK.
Hetherington said the trio had no travel documents or identification and had given false names to French authorities.
After their real names were checked on police systems, they were arrested on suspicion of rape.
Sali, of St Werburghs, denies one count of human trafficking and two charges of rape.
Habibkheil, of Lockleaze, denies one count of human trafficking and one charge of rape.
Ahmadzai, of Redcliffe, denies one charge of rape and one charge of assault by penetration.
The 16-year-old also denied one charge of rape.
The trial continues.'

A jury is told three defendants left the country in a "deeply unusual" way after the alleged rape.

We should at times like this see some cross-party cooperation to resolve these issues. But none of the politicians seem to actually give a shit about the electorate - we pay them to work for us, and at the moment the elected government are ignoring / denying the elephant in the room.

The backlog of people waiting for asylum claims to be processed is the lowest it has been in 5 years! The number of asylum seekers in hotels has massively reduced.
Labour are making progress with the immigration issue.
Why are you not more incensed about the almost nonexistent rape conviction rates? Why make this about immigration?

I think it's a mistake to believe that "the news" reflects what is happening in society.

For example, a Google search by me shows that eight people have been stabbed in London in the last five days. If you are like me, I cannot recall reading of that in the news.

Like every other internet content supplier, "the news"relies on clicks.

Some random person in London has been stabbed by another random person doesn't generate clicks.

In a similar way, if you read about one type of dog attacking a child and you click on it, you'll soon read about another similar type of attack.

To be sure, all of these attacks are horrendous. But to define your views by what is reported is to give the algorithm that generate it way too much power.

Totally agree. When I was trying to find out more about this story I googled 'Rape in Bristol' - turns out that sadly, this is far from an isolated incident.

This was an unbelievably horrendous rape, and the perpetrators should absolutely be punished. But why did you make a thread about asylum seekers and refugees, instead of the almost total failure of our justice system to properly prosecute rape? This attack is bad enough, you don't need to turn it into yet another thread on the evils of migrants.

Are you for real? The issues with VAWG in this country are deep and horrific - and yes the gvt does fck all about it as we saw with the Pakistani grooming gangs, and as you say the horrendously low rape conviction rates.

As the mother of Rhiannon Whyte said - we do not need any more depraved men coming to live in the UK from countries where WAG are treated like sht anyway, we have enough.

Until they rape white male lawyers on Canary wharf, nothing will change

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · Yesterday 20:32

This will not change while our Prime Minister keeps accusing us of being the problem for calling it out.

We are not allowed to blame men who are either coming here from extremely violent and broken societies, or those born here but born into families and a culture that abhors Western ideals and peace.

Even today, the Northern Ireland minister calling out an MP for using the words ‘alien culture’ to refer to the behaviour of the Sudanese illegal immigrant who tried to behead and gouged out the eyes of a reportedly hearing impaired man who had tried to help him when he arrived a few days ago.

That behaviour should very much be totally alien to our culture and it is absolutely disgusting that Hilary Benn stood in parliament and with all the superciliousness of a left wing virtue signaller, questioned those words.

The left are a danger to our society.

Why wouldn't I be for real? You know nothing about these men's immigration status and have instead turned this horrific attack into a vehicle to start yet another thread to attack immigrants! All it does is whip up pointless froth and make it that much more difficult to have an actual conversation about immigration, or the justice system, or what is actually happening verses what is reported in some parts of the press.

Do we have accurate data on this do you know?

I’d like to know how many people are coming into the country and by what method? How many people are being deported from the country and on what basis? Also how many family members are gaining entry once an asylum application is granted, as well as the amount of benefits/welfare paid out.

Somerford · Yesterday 20:35

Visa’s? All of them? Student visa, work visa, what about tourist visa?

you know asylum seekers don’t travel on visas? So if you stop visas you stop legal migration for study and work, but will have no effect on asylum seekers.

Actually they do. I'm pretty sure Pakistan is the number one country of origin for asylum seekers in the UK, some will break into the country on small boats. Most will come on temporary visas and the claim asylum on expiry.

It's these lawyers doing their worst for the cash

For example - Other Garden Court barristers have displayed signal success in ensuring that convicted criminals can stay in the country. Patrick Lewis managed to ensure a Jamaican rapist avoided deportation on human-rights grounds, since the crimes the man committed in this country meant he was not eligible for witness protection in the Caribbean. Eva Doerr helped an Albanian offender to stay in Britain because sending him back to the Balkans would mean he could only communicate with his 15-year-old stepson via Zoom, which would be unfair on the boy.

The main tool used by Garden Court’s barristers to keep criminals in the UK is an inventive interpretation of the right to a family life. Well-meaning clauses written into the ECHR in 1950 have been stretched by lawyers to challenge governments that try to tackle illegal migration.

The radical barristers who really lay down the law in Britain

The facade of Garden Court Chambers in Lincoln’s Inn Fields is reassuringly traditional. The barristers who work there occupy buildings which were once home to the Earl of Sandwich and the Tory prime minister Spencer Perceval. If there were any buildin...

All males born into England are born into a culture of misogyny. It is what England is well known for...

The root cause of this needs to be tackled....and without being able to name the root cause and make it a crime then it will not be tackled.

Yes @ShetlandishMumbut initially asylum seekers are given temporary residence for just 1 to two years and if their countries are subsequently deemed to be safe, they are sent back. Lots of people will be sent back way before they get to the 8 years, which is still extremely stringent - how many uk based asylum seekers are going to manage those criteria?!

The number of asylum seekers in hotels has massively reduced.

That’s because they are putting them in HMOs across the country. Spreading them into communities not set up to deal with the sort of ultra violence some of these men are clearly capable of.

Why are you not more incensed about the almost nonexistent rape conviction rates?

Whataboutery. Obviously the risible rate of charging for rape cases is a serious issue. That’s why it is even more important not to have undetained men from countries where women are not viewed as full human beings and where they regularly claim in their defence that they didn’t know it was illegal to rape. Prevention is better than waiting for a prosecution that will never come.

In the last year (to March) we have deported or had voluntarily leave just 39,000 people with no right to be here. What has happened to the rest of them? Whistleblowers in border control have said they are under pressure to allow asylum claims and we know that there is mass abuse of the system by false LGB claims and other means.

Don’t imagine for a minute the government has control of the situation and is acting in our best interests.

Yetanotherone12 · Yesterday 20:44

Samysungy · Yesterday 20:18

Yep all of them.

I know they do not travel on visas but we want something to be done to stop these crimes....as we know letting in 42 million visitors into the country will drastically reduce the amount of criminals coming in...

It will help......will it not?

Don’t be ridiculous.

universities are struggling as it is. Take away the millions that Chinese and other international student pump in in fees, and also to the local economies in rent and living costs, well either see university fees for uk students increase, or the institutions collapse.

we need tourism. It generates massive income.

we also need foreign workers. They prop up the nhs, we need to be able to bring in expertise from round the world in academia and other fields. Hell we even need seasonal workers for crop picking- a farm local to me has really struggled post Brexit with the loss of European temporary workers.

What about spouses? No Brit can every marry anyone not from the Uk as they won’t get a visa to come and live here?

getting a visa is not an easy process. There are background checks, interviews. It’s also fucking expensive- people on visas aren’t likely to start committing crime after going through all the hoops..

then you’ve also got the repercussions that if we stop granting visas, we’ll be stopped from getting visas elsewhere… so no holidays or trips abroad…

Somerford · Yesterday 20:45

Northermcharn · Yesterday 20:41

The angle doesn't even work in the context of advocating for mass immigration. If we agree that the UK is a cesspit of misogyny, highly dangerous for migrant women and a terrible corrupting influence on migrant men, we should ban all immigration for their own good and nobody should want to come here.
