'Afghan men 'fled UK in lorry after raping girl'

Mobile phone footage recovered from Safi's phone showed the men in the lorry laughing and gesticulating, which Hetherington said suggested they thought they "got away with it".

When they were found by French police in Calais on 3 December, they were returned to the UK.
Hetherington said the trio had no travel documents or identification and had given false names to French authorities.
After their real names were checked on police systems, they were arrested on suspicion of rape.
Sali, of St Werburghs, denies one count of human trafficking and two charges of rape.
Habibkheil, of Lockleaze, denies one count of human trafficking and one charge of rape.
Ahmadzai, of Redcliffe, denies one charge of rape and one charge of assault by penetration.
The 16-year-old also denied one charge of rape.
The trial continues.'

Afghan men accused of fleeing UK after raping girl in Bristol

A jury is told three defendants left the country in a "deeply unusual" way after the alleged rape.

I followed that link and read his name was Mohammed Abdullah, so I searched for his name + sentence. He was found guilty but sentencing is set for early July. So no, he has not been ‘let off’.

But confusingly, the search results also gave this Mohammed Abdulluh https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqql3ll96x2o

and this one https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/dec/08/briton-mohammed-abdallah-jailed-for-10-years-for-joining-islamic-state

also https://news.sky.com/story/rapist-chased-down-street-by-victim-after-attack-jailed-for-seven-years-12992241

also https://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/17201350.mohammed-abdullah-jailed-four-years-admitting-drug-supply-offences/

But as pp said, it is possibly just the algorithm linking stories.

@Yetanotherone12i voted remain, but the Dublin agreement makes little difference - we previously accepted more people than we ever returned! If you look at historic returns, it’s actually tiny. The database access might help, but only if you actually return people- the Germans are returning people to Afghanistan but we are not, knowing a bit more about them really isn’t making a lot of difference frankly!

It would have acted as a deterrent though as they knew they could be sent back to the first country they entered in Europe, we also lost access to the database which held info on whether these people had been refused asylum already etc. There are far higher numbers of people arriving on the Uk post Brexit and this must play into it.

Probably not for the reasons you say though.

Net migration is down because so many wealthy Brits are leaving because of the anti-business policies of this govt.

This offsets the continued influx of the indigent and unskilled.

Incidentally the govt in their stupidity have also basically stopped highly skilled immigration into the UK (ie the type of immigrant that actually helps the economy).

No, the numbers of Brits leaving is down too.

I bet that a lot of people replying are thinking of voting reform as well, Nigel had a large hand in causing this problem, listening to him again is madness.

I do not see what the government can do, frankly, such awful things cannot be anticipated. They've always happened. The police are more on the ball now than ever when it comes to catching and convicting perpetrators but they cannot prevent.

Yes they can. It’s called changing the asylum system.

How would that work in the case the OP cites?

Yes, something absolutely needs to be done about the issue of fucking disgusting men raping women. Oh, that wasn't the point you were making? What a surprise.

Why on earth were they returned here?

Prioritise immigration then from western countries and other nations with low crime rates and people who work hard and integrate.

You mean like we had before Brexit?

You think that Farage's Brexit didn't create enough disaster, so you want to cripple the UK even further, you mean?

KateSixer · Yesterday 22:06

fashionqueen0123 · Yesterday 21:58

Why on earth were they returned here?

The last govt had set up a system to ship asylum seekers to a UK court approved safe country - Rwanda - to have their cases for UK asylum assessed by the UK there.

Many other countries have taken a similar approach. Australia for one.

The last govt spent hundreds of millions setting this up in the belief it would deter people coming to the UK to seek asylum if they knew they'd have to wait in Rwanda until their case was assessed.

The current Labour govt cancelled the Rwanda scheme pretty well on their first day in office. In my opinion this tells you everything you need to know about Labour and immigration. They love it.

This .
Can’t believe this will be the legacy for our children.
Politicians are such cowards:
calls for calm, two tier policing and hope the news cycle moves on, with sanitised reporting .
there is nothing rational or calm about child rape, public beheading and handcuffing a murdered child in his dying moments.
edited to add that suicidal empaths on here are also moral cowards.

When Rupert Lowe said he wanted to deport rape victims and said that it was sexist to deal with the main perpetrators of child sexual abuse.....absolutely not!

If they’re so desperate, why don’t go to the next safe country. Fgs

Chocolatefreak · Yesterday 22:21

Dnfs · Yesterday 22:15

People are desperate because they have been, and continue to be, exploited through resource extraction and subjected to unfair trade practices by the UK and other Western nations for years.

The reasons they seek better lives in the UK are absolutely our fault. If we agreed to live less comfortable lives, with lower consumption, immigration would slow down dramatically.

But most posters on this forum will never understand the basic principle of cause and effect.

RetiredFromExplaining · Yesterday 22:24

Most rapes in the UK are perpetrated by white British men.

There are 72,000 reported rapes in the UK every year (ONS 2025), so it’s not just asylum seekers or people from different cultures.

Of course this is shocking and horrifying, but these men were caught.

We must do more to prevent violence against women and girls full stop. Saying it’s just foreigners doesn’t help end that and is inciting hatred,

ElvirRamcic · Yesterday 22:25

People declaring net migration is down like some kind of “gotcha” fail to understand that the figure is completely meaningless without an analysis of who is leaving and who is entering.

The whole immigration situation is a total mess and it needs radical, far reaching reform. Which we won’t get.
