Is Andy Burnham reasonable to say only a small minority of women object to men being in their toilets? YABU he's right, YANBU he's wrong *titled tweaked by MNHQ at OP's request*

'I don't think that's a majority view. I think it's a minority view and quite a small minority view, actually. But it is a view so you can't completely ignore it. Possibly they might be women who have experienced male violence at some point in their life. I don't know, that's one way of looking at it.'

Andy Burnham backs men who identify as female using women's toilets

The Greater Manchester mayor said the idea that single sex spaces like toilets should be protected for biological women was a 'minority view'.

You are also being unreasonable asking the most transphobic echo chamber on the Internet this question.

They don't. Funnily enough.

But that is exactly the mistake: treating “transwomen” as a separate safe category from men.

Women’s toilets exist because of sex, not because signs magically stop rapists. The point is not that a sign creates a forcefield. The point is that women and girls are entitled to a clear boundary, and staff/police/security need a clear rule to enforce.

Once you say some males may enter female toilets if they identify a certain way, you have removed the boundary for all practical purposes.

The answer is not mixed-sex toilets. It is male, female, and additional single-user provision for anyone who needs privacy, accessibility, family use or neutrality.

Women should not be asked to give up single-sex spaces because public bodies failed to provide enough third spaces.

Once you say some males may enter female toilets if they identify a certain way, you have removed the boundary for all practical purposes.

Not just removed the boundary for all practical purposes, but removed the basis on which it was considered reasonable to have it in the first place.

The case for women-only spaces based on sex is easy to explain by linking sex-based experiences and risks to the need for safety/dignity/privacy.

The case for "women-only" spaces based on any other criteria is impossible to make. It always boils down to "well it says woman on the door and I'm a woman so..." , in other words the justification is simply the space exists so I get to use it, not a justification for why it should exist in the first place.

'Transphobic' 🥱

Please give your definition, because imo that would mean hate and intolerance. I don't hate men dressed as women I feel sorry for some of them. I just know you cannot change sex and should not access single sex spaces.

And what I said did happen. It wasn’t a feeling of vulnerability or ‘what if’.

I do not doubt that at all

and often unreported but the response often is along the lines that this only happens on rare occasions

it is not taken into account all the staring, standing too close how that can make us feel or having to be in our guard. I like not to be on guard, and I am not wrong in feeling that way but a few males feelings are more important 🙄

this is literally ridiculous, they use a cubicle and wash their hands!!! an open changing room is different but a public loo??? come off it.

I bet most of you already have and didnt realise because funnily enough they look like women!!

Are you saying that you can't spot which one of these people queuing for the womens toilets is a man?

So why do men need to this in the women's toilet? Why can't they just do it the men's?

Was it?! It’s sums up beautifully the ridiculousness that is trans ideology. Three people in jeans and trainers, one in knee high boots, tights and a pink skirt and jacket combo yet it couldn’t be more obvious who are the women and who is the man.

Yawn.

Women have had "transphobic" thrown at us for so many years now, that it means nothing anymore.

I don't care how a man feels about himself.
I don't care how wearing something "feminine " means something to him.
I don't care who trans people love, where they want to work, where they want to travel to, how much they love their dogs, how much their families love them or hate them, or what their dinner-party-worthy best dish is.

I.don't.care.

Be happy, don't be happy, wear what you want, go where you are legally allowed to, have a safe, productive life.

Just leave me,my life, and my reality out of yours.

All I want is for the words "woman" and "girl" to mean "minor or adult human biological female." And for biological men, however they present themselves, to be forbidden to enter, use, or usurp women's lawful single-sex spaces. And that women are not required to pretend that we think men can ever be women, and vice versa.

Honestly, I think I would be willing to donate my house to charity if it meant that women could forever more STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS.

Politicians like to talk about loos because if they start talking about changing rooms and safeguarding in schools, it will make them look creepy. Once you say single sex spaces don't need to exist, then it is ok for adult men to go into changing rooms with teenage girls. At what point do you draw the line? At what stage of transness for the men and at what level of vulnerability for the women and girls to you decide it is/isn't ok?

I hope the headlines, and explosive gigantic FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF that is booming from the nation's women focuses Andy's mind. And Keir Starmer takes note. And Bridget fucking Philipson, too. Harriet Harman apparently takes note of nothing that doesn't advance her own interests.

Such an important post.
This is why there's endless discussions about toilets. It disguises the reality - these people are demanding access to the bodies of girls and women as they undress.

I feel the fast he's presented this issue as being a non starter because it's only a " minority view " shows a lack of many things and definatly not PM worthy.

Disgusting.

Wipeywipey · 20/05/2026 17:43

The fact he is stuck on a debate that the Supreme Court clarified years ago is concerning. I don't want to go back to this being the only thing politicians talk about for months on end.

And thank God for it because for all its faults, for a long time it was pretty much the only place where women could gather to say that men aren't women and women have a right to intimate spaces away from them.

The more rage you demonstrate about that, the more important it is that we can do it.

You mean like reducing women to a stereotype and campaigning for their rights to be removed from legislation?

OonaStubbs · 20/05/2026 17:46

The only people that should be allowed to use women's toilets are people that were born women. Full stop. No ifs, no buts, no exceptions.
