Is Andy Burnham reasonable to say only a small minority of women object to men being in their toilets? YABU he's right, YANBU he's wrong *titled tweaked by MNHQ at OP's request*

'I don't think that's a majority view. I think it's a minority view and quite a small minority view, actually. But it is a view so you can't completely ignore it. Possibly they might be women who have experienced male violence at some point in their life. I don't know, that's one way of looking at it.'

Andy Burnham backs men who identify as female using women's toilets

The Greater Manchester mayor said the idea that single sex spaces like toilets should be protected for biological women was a 'minority view'.

I think you need to clarify the voting. Clearly, HE is unreasonable but YOU are not unreasonable to make us aware!

Hmm you might have a point sorry, I meant votes for Unreasonable would be for Burnham being unreasonable.

I have always thought the way the whole section is set up leads to too many double negatives.

Apologies all round...

Incredibly arrogant of him to talk for women like that. Who does he think he is?!

keepswimming38 · 20/05/2026 09:59

Nah why would I want men in my toilets? They piss over everything, leave the fucking seat up, don’t wash their hands.

SemmaLina · 20/05/2026 10:00

Another one who doesn’t want men 8n the ladies loose

Bushmillsbabe · 20/05/2026 10:02

I am also one of that 'minority'. Any male 8 or over should not be in women's toilets or changing areas. If a male 8 or over needs support due to additional needs, they can use the disabled toilets/changing area.

I am fed up with seeing males and older boys in women's areas. And some women don't help us because they encourage their older boys to come into girls toilets - at a theme park last weekend there were 4 (I assume) brothers in girls toilets with their mum - they looked roughly 7, 9, 11, 13. The older 3 could definitely have gone into men's together. If women aren't standing up for this, what hope do we have of men doing it!

To me that reads as: "don't know, don't care, it's not on my radar".
Thanks, Andy.Hmm

MrsColinRobinson · 20/05/2026 10:02

Another in this allegedly small minority who think men, Andy first, should fuck right off telling us how we should think.

I voted yanbu but think Burnham is unreasonable to use minority in his statement.

OFiddleDeeDee · 20/05/2026 10:03

I like how a man is speaking about how I may or may not feel.

No irony in that at all.

DoughnutDreamer · 20/05/2026 10:06

He’s just another stupid man making stupid statements about something that doesn’t affect him at all. I’m sick of these men pandering to a minority group who have tried to convince the world that they are more important than everyone else. He’s completely misread the situation and thinks the loudest shouters speak for the majority when it’s actually the other way round. No one I know thinks a man in a dress is a woman, and most people find the whole thing beyond odd and utterly ridiculous.

DialSquare · 20/05/2026 10:08

I voted YABU based on your last post (Burnham is being unreasonable). Anyone who already voted thinking it was the other way round can change their vote if they want to.

JulesJules · 20/05/2026 10:09

He can fuck right off. I'm completely out of patience with these misogynist lefty woke bros. I honestly hope the women (and men) of Makersfield do not return him to parliament.

Runningshoes99 · 20/05/2026 10:09

Regardless of your views on this issue that quote is staggering in its lack of moral clarity. Doesn’t exactly scream prime ministerial. I’m no fan of Keir but starting to feel that this leadership campaign is really exposing Burnham’s shortcomings

mindutopia · 20/05/2026 10:10

I personally don’t object at all to trans women using the women’s loo. I don’t object to trans men either but that would freak a lot of pearl clutchers out.

SwirlyGates · 20/05/2026 10:13

He's completely wrong of course, and obviously hasn't read any polls on this (or has read them and is ignoring them). But what do you expect from the Labour party, with "some women have a penis" Starmer, "can't get round to producing the guidance" Phillipson, "fine to have rapists in women's prisons" Nandy; this is the party that allowed trans-identifying males in the Labour Women's Conference, and when this was shown to be illegal, they postponed the conference rather than say no to men. Hmm

HelenHywater · 20/05/2026 10:13

Does he still think this? (and what @lifeturnsonadime says). (and @PencilsInSpace for that matter!).

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 20/05/2026 10:15

How could you take someone seriously if they ever, thought that a man could be a woman, even if he says he’s changed his mind now?

speckledpinkhen · 20/05/2026 10:16

I fucking hate it when men speak for women! I do not want men or men who identify as women to share the same space as me. As a woman I am sick of being made to feel less because I feel this way! As women we’re still fighting for equality and this argument gets more airtime than women’s rights!

DontReplyAll · 20/05/2026 10:16

I don’t understand, why would women “freak out” about other women (trans men) using the women’s toilets?

Whyohwhy321 · 20/05/2026 10:17

You think women who object to men in their toilets are pearl clutches? So you're sexist, ageist, can't grasp the complexities of a situation and I bet you use the term karen aswell.

nam3c4ang3 · 20/05/2026 10:19

Andy Burnham is a twat and I hope he loses against reform who seem to be tearing Labour apart.

GentleSheep · 20/05/2026 10:20

If I walked into the women's loo and found a man in there I'd freeze then make a hasty exit. So no, I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

Possibly they might be women who have experienced male violence at some point in their life

Well yes I have, but that's not why I'd react that way, I would have done so even before that experience.

If Andy Burnham's being urged to tell us his current stance on this issue, and he's hedging, then you can be sure he doesn't want to lose the trans vote, which maybe to him seems more important that sticking with the actual biological reality!

HermioneWeasley · 20/05/2026 10:20

All the polling shows that when clear language is used, the vast majority of people want single sex spaces so be is wrong.

he’s a smug misogynist.

Gloriia · 20/05/2026 10:21

What a stupid man. Wants to be PM and thinks he can just make shit up? I mean fgs at least have some stats, not just 'well I think this so it must be true' bollocks.

nam3c4ang3 · 20/05/2026 10:21

You don’t get why women would be upset if a bloke with a penis used a woman’s bathroom - ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE MEN. What’s wrong with you.
