AIBU to want my sister to leave my local crows alone?

I have been feeding a group of crows near my house and we’re just getting to the point where they wait for me now in a morning and come very close. My sister has decided she wants in on it but I’ve told her to go and find her own murder as I’ve put in all the hard work with these ones. I told her there is a murder across the way on the field she could do and feed.

this morning I was coming home from shop and there she was feeding Russel from my murder. I shouted at her and she shouted that they’re not my fucking crows, at the point a woman walking a dog walked past and tutted so sister shouted that they’re not my crows and I was shouting at her. The woman just carried on walking but this was right near my house!!

AIBU to think she should just go and feed the others???

Give her some Kia ora to give to them, it’s too orangey for crows and they will flounce in disgust

I only recently discovered the saying; 'A crow in a crowd is a rook, a rook on its own is a crow'. Are they definitely crows?

Yep definitely crows, black beaks. Rooks have light beaks.

id love to have some ravens.

Best thing today, and I wonder if you're my colleague 🤔 Don't think she's got a local sister though! Anyway, yanbu op.

Well i heard that crows have photographic memories for human faces and can hold grudges and attack humans who have done them wrong. Since they have come to know and trust you, you could stage a scene whereby it looks like your sister is harming you, thus triggering the crows vengeance mechanisms. Basically, they will see her as threatening and will kot forget her face

That’s not a bad idea actually - I could easily stage something

Me and Russel?

😆 this thread is a joy.

Manchegomango · 19/05/2026 13:33

If you staged it right as you are laying out the buffet, they will come to loathe her as a denier of their food and harmer of their protector

Timeforaglassofwine · 19/05/2026 13:34

I think you and your sister should go back to class, the lunchtime bell has rang and maths is about to start.

TheFluffyTwo · 19/05/2026 13:36

You don't have a DSis problem, you have a DRussel problem.

PauliesWalnuts · 19/05/2026 13:37

I've only just cottoned on to the Russel(l) Crowe and Cheryl Crow names 😁

For your shopping list @AliceNotInChains

The Ultimate Crow Menu
Crows are opportunistic omnivores. If you give them a high-protein, easily accessible buffet, they will quickly become regulars.
The Holy Grail: Raw, unsalted peanuts in the shell. They love the challenge of cracking them open and can carry them away to cache.
Protein Boosters: Dry high-quality dog or cat food, freeze-dried mealworms, and unsalted suet pellets.
Crow Favorites: Hard-boiled eggs (you can even leave them slightly cracked), leftover unseasoned cooked meats, and dog biscuits.
Treats & Fruits: Halved grapes, berries (like blueberries), and nuts like walnuts.

Russel 💓

I went to a motel in the US once where the owner (who lived onsite) fed many large black birds and they hung around the pool and his kitchen all day. Was a bit surreal at the time. He seemed like a nice chap though. You could make a wonderful couple.

AllSlugsAreBastards · 19/05/2026 13:45

Reprehensible behaviour from your sister - she should make friends with her own murder.

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 19/05/2026 13:46

Shouting at each other 😀

It's just reminding me of "what's your name" "Ezekiel" 😀😀

Finally a post on MN I can relate to! 🐦‍⬛

What are you laying out for the buffet

Her sister.... 😁

BreezyMintHiker · 19/05/2026 13:47

Was this a dream you had?

viques · 19/05/2026 13:47

I get that Russell is a good name for a crow, but why have you only named one? Can you only think of one funny name ( you could use Sheryl for a start) . Or, are you unable to distinguish them from each other so call them all Russell?

MousseMousse · 19/05/2026 13:47

This feels so fake but i guess I'm here for it anyway lol

Yesitsmeimback · 19/05/2026 13:47

There is an old peoples home at the end of my road a murder of crows hangs about outside all the time, bit dark 😬😬😬😬

EggStation · 19/05/2026 13:48

Crows are very loyal and hold grudges. They will decide which of you they prefer.

Read all the OP's posts! Cheryl and White Chest are also in the murder.

Friendlygingercat · 19/05/2026 13:50

There have been other threads about crows on Mumsnet. Including one where a poster was regularly attacked by crows. They are fascinating creatures.

Crows evaluate faces using integrated neural systems. Landmark studies by researchers at the University of Washington proved crows not only remember individual faces but will pass down "grudges" (or trust) across multiple generations through social learning.

Manchegomango · 19/05/2026 13:50

Wherever you hold the buffet you should make a pub sign that reads The Crow Bar

OttersOnAPlane · 19/05/2026 13:50

All you do with your sister is fight!

Have you removed the bicycle from her hallway yet?
Or returned the keyboard you borrowed?
