So under the old system, if you spent £10, you got a bakery treat, £50 free veg etc, plus the scratch cards giving you 15% off of something youve typically bought before

It wasnt good but it was fine

Now, you get 1 point per pound

And one donut costs 40 points

So I need to spend £40 now to get a free donut? Plus no scratchcard rewards?!

Nonsense

Just buy a doughnut if you want one.

I dont 😄 i'm just annoyed at how they're taking the mick

They cant really have been losing money by giving out free veg - i used to buy a nice big bag of potatoes

Just another retailer ripping us off

It is, its just irritating at how much theyre making whilst most struggle to balance the books on essentials

A bakery treat for spending £10? Really?
I didn’t realise, as for me it was more like a bakery treat each visit for the next visit… but only if you went again within a week which was useless for me. I don’t go more than once a week.

Selkie33 · 15/05/2026 16:48

All supermarkets have been severely impacted by this CoL crisis, they're having to tighten their belts too, just not in the same way as the rest of us @mumofoneAloneandwell 😉🤣

Yeah 😄, they'll still find a way to get their bonuses i'm sure

I remember when you could get a Ford Escort for 1400 completed books of Green Shield stamps. You don't get that any more.

mugglewump · 15/05/2026 17:04

A bakery treat for £10, but free veg only with a £40 spend? That clearly gives out a very poor message regarding healthy eating.

Besides, how can a company changing the parameters of their own reward scheme be taking the piss? You either buy in to all the reward schemes or you don't. What incentive the company offers to track your spending is their decision. Personally, I can't be bothered with with all these schemes.

JLou08 · 15/05/2026 17:05

I think they're still doing the rewards too. I got a free veg coupon after my shop yesterday and I've still got all the points.

Charlize43 · 15/05/2026 17:07

How can you be annoyed with a Supermarket that had vegetables for 0.08p over Easter (& Christmas)? It was Lidls that started doing this.

I'm loving that all the other SM have started doing the Aldi price match. Even those crooks at Tescos!

That's late stage capitalism for you 😁

Aliceinmunsnetland · 15/05/2026 17:12

Lidl is still cheaper on a typical shop, what more do you want ?🙄

rwalker · 15/05/2026 17:15

At the end of the day it’s a marketing strategy to boost sales
nobody has stopped giving u a doughnut to fund bosses bonuses
as with any marketing if its not generating revenue it’s scrapped

I thought I was getting free veg today so bought a bag of potatoes. At the checkout I got some money off but they weren't free so no idea what went wrong.

MagpiePi · 15/05/2026 17:27

Nobody is forcing you to shop at Lidl. Go somewhere else if you think you are being ripped off.

Imdunfer · 15/05/2026 17:32

These retailers make about 4% profit.

If you spend £10. and they give you something that costs them 40p then they've made no money on your shop.

Would you rather they put the prices up than changed the loyalty scheme?

Whenever I post about big companies ripping us off, I get people coming to... defend the big companies?? 🤔

Okay moneybags 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

If you think they're ripping you off shop somewhere else. There is sufficient competition in food retailing to be sure that they are genuinely competing on price.

Catterbat · 15/05/2026 17:43

Be thankful you don’t shop at Asda. You have to spend £40k to get enough points for a tin of soup.

Hicupping · 15/05/2026 17:45

I avoid my Lidl now, there's never a staffed till open, it's all self serve and after a day working I've no interest in doing what was someone elses job, the self serves are so loud too, beep can prob be heard miles away. Asda and Aldi at least has some staffed tills open. The offers were never enough to pull me in, though I think Harry Hippo's > Percy pigs and >>>>that Aldi's sad version.

I want to start an Asda shoppers support group, that place is hell on earth!

The app is a bloody nightmare, not to mention the rewards scheme
