To think that Lidl are taking the piss?

So under the old system, if you spent £10, you got a bakery treat, £50 free veg etc, plus the scratch cards giving you 15% off of something youve typically bought before

It wasnt good but it was fine

Now, you get 1 point per pound

And one donut costs 40 points

So I need to spend £40 now to get a free donut? Plus no scratchcard rewards?!

Nonsense

Outrageous withdrawl of freebies.
No customer should be faced with a choice of spending 40p on a donut or not getting one.

I was watching a video yesterday of how someone found their tesco shop was £50 more expensive, for the exact same stuff, than it was 7 weeks ago.

Supermarkets are helping to create the cost of living crisis, they're cashing in. Just look at their profits.

Food prices have not gone up 10% in 7 weeks, so unless her shop was £1000 or she bought a load of stuff on special offer last time, that just doesn't make sense. Can you point to that video?

Supermarkets make some of the lowest % profits of any industry sector and are subject to ferocious competition that keeps prices low. They are neither creating the cost of living crisis nor cashing in on it.

I miss my 10% off shopping coupon every month.. it was a great saving. I wouldn't mind otherwise, but for them to say "we have listened to you, our customers, and have introduced these changes as a result" Who wanted these changes, nobody! I don't think that they are taking the piss, it's up to them how they want to reward their customers and compete against the likes of Tesco's

Boxcan · 19/05/2026 17:21

They are still doing discount coupons too though. I've just had a "May Treat" of £5off, on top of those available via points.

This is it, as someone above said, thats £25 off a big shop, and you'd just plan accordingly

I rarely spent enough to get it, but the others helped out too, even if it was just dd's pink sprinkle donut 😄 - lidls her favourite shop for that reason!

Yes I've received a £5 off if you spend £50 voucher. That is far more useful to me than the 10%, and I'm still getting the 15% vouchers for various stuff.

Not every customer was spending £250 a month, though. Those that weren't spending enough to get the 10% off a complete shop probably were asking for a system like Tesco and Sainsbury that gives points for each £ spend.

So that probably means that almost everyone who lives alone and many child free couples did want this change.

Exactly. I said that on the other thread. From what I've observed only about half of LIDL customers even use the app, most people, I suspect couldn't give a toss about the changes.

Yes, I never spent enough to get the big one, despite doing all my shopping in Lidl, so I was subsidising those who did...

TroysMammy · 19/05/2026 19:21

I complained once because the date of their Lidl Plus price on paella rice wasn't clearly marked and they gave me a £5 voucher.

It was capped at 200 quid so max saving was £20 (and in Scotland at least alcohol was excluded) but I always got extra stuff that week. I spend a lot on food there and frankly, I'm too busy to start fiddling with points system. I much preferred the old one. And yes. I too was quite partial to a wee donut or an almond croissant.....

Of all the places I've needed to ask to use a loo (not often, but enough times and by definition it's usually a somewhat urgent situation so memorable), I found Lidl to be the most accommodating. Their customer loo was out of service, so they took me to the staff one.
Not just a shrug and a sorry. And they customer loo is clean about 90% of the time.
