To think that Lidl are taking the piss?

So under the old system, if you spent £10, you got a bakery treat, £50 free veg etc, plus the scratch cards giving you 15% off of something youve typically bought before

It wasnt good but it was fine

Now, you get 1 point per pound

And one donut costs 40 points

So I need to spend £40 now to get a free donut? Plus no scratchcard rewards?!

Nonsense

M&S Sparks has done something similar - changed the offers so you have to spend, accumulate points to get the rewards. Not that I'm shopping there much but occasionally the upfront offer of e.g. 20% off jeans made me look at what they had. It's a totally different way of promoting customer loyalty/interest.
Lidl have offered me a free cleaning item so I'll be swinging by to see what's the most expensive cleaning product I can get!

This pissed me off, I would save and buy what I needed with the 20% off from m&s

You whattttt??!!

I thought they were keeping the scratchcard? I used to get some amazing freebies from it. And yes, I can still buy them but it's nice to feel valued and get something for nothing sometimes.

Also the coupons didn't seem as good this week so I wonder if they are watering them down too.

This is it, its nice to feel valued

And sometimes with the 15% off, i'd stock up on something I needed

Awful

Lidl app still the best. .tesco the second best. Can't be bothered with asda one. Tbh asda is so expensive I avoid it now. Love the random freebies the new lidl one gives

IsabellaVireauxLaurent · 15/05/2026 22:47

i do wish Aldi put the original prices on items so when they reduce them you know what the original price is etc

juldan · 15/05/2026 22:48

I am annoyed with the change as well. I liked the old system, although usually didn’t get to 10% off even though I do most of my shopping there. I also loved the random things they did like scratch cards, advent calendar, bakery spin. The best was last summer when they did fruit spin for several weeks each time you shopped.
The new system worse but still much better than Waitrose. You have to spend £50 to get some random item. This month I have been gifted weird flavoured crisps. And if you don’t reach the target, the points disappear at the end of the month. At least with Lidl the points are valid for 2 years.

OvernightBloats · 16/05/2026 06:59

Think of the positives - Lidl's potatoes are tasteless crap so now go elsewhere for better quality.

But, yes, Lidl are fooling no-one by saying this new rewards scheme is better. They lured you in with the old scheme and are now taking away all the incentives to make you choose to shop there.

Not sure whether they will still do the fruit spin and bakery spin promotions which I really loved. Anyway, I am going to spend my money less in Lidl from now on. Do the same. Aldi is better!

Mrssweary · 16/05/2026 08:22

I do shop there but because of certain dietary requirements at home now I can’t get all the shopping I need so I haven’t really used the new points system, I loved the old system though, I thought it was fair ,I never managed to get the money off as I never really spent enough.

beckyh47 · 16/05/2026 17:51

I enjoyed the 10% discount after spending £250. My final shop of the month, or the first of the following, benefitted from approx £7 discount plus all the free things along the way. Now I’ll need to spend £500 to get a £5 voucher which means there’s no incentive to shop there each week to hit that £250. So yesterday I went to Aldi. Aldi marmalade is cheaper and has a higher fruit content 😂

Straycats · 16/05/2026 17:58

Much preferred their old system. It’s put me off shopping in Lidl, as I really preferred what they originally had. @lidlplease go back to how you had it.

Sennelier1 · 16/05/2026 18:32

I save points and can use them to buy what's on offer, different every week. This week it was carrots (300 pts.), courgette (180 pts.) chicons (500 pts.) and cucumber (180 pts.) ór 5 euro on your total (1000 pts.) (Lidl in Belgium)

mumofoneAloneandwell · 15/05/2026 16:45

I dont 😄 i'm just annoyed at how they're taking the mick

They cant really have been losing money by giving out free veg - i used to buy a nice big bag of potatoes

Just another retailer ripping us off

I'm not sure Lidl can be accused of ripping us off - they are hardly expensive!
How can you say they weren't losing much giving away veg when you admit you selected a sack of potatoes

Prefer Aldi anyway 🤷‍♀️

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 16/05/2026 19:29

Don't like Lidl..Find their stores to be poorly laid out and some of their products not to be of itgood quality and a bit muddle headed.

Forget about silly rewards and loyalty cards and other such rackets.

Go.to ALDI..

No Worries!

SqueakyFromme · 16/05/2026 19:32

@SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess i agree but I am annoyed Aldi have discontinued golden yolk eggs.🐣

TwinklySquid · 16/05/2026 19:34

Asda changed their system- or tinkered with it. I stopped scanning. My data is worth more to them than a few pence off something I don’t buy to me .
If people stopped using it, they don’t get anything

ForQuirkyFawn · 16/05/2026 19:36

Yes...the change to the lidl app to a points system is a racket, I just keep resetting the app so I get 100 points and then get my free item...simples

anniegun · 16/05/2026 19:42

I would rather supermarkets focussed on price rather than gimmicky loyalty schemes. Lidl are generally very good value.

croydon15 · 16/05/2026 20:18

Aliceinmunsnetland · 15/05/2026 17:12

Lidl is still cheaper on a typical shop, what more do you want ?🙄

This - Lidl is very cheap they're in business to make money, compare their prices to Waitrose or other super markets.

I remember when you could get a Ford Escort for 1400 completed books of Green Shield stamps. You don't get that any more.

I used to love green shield stamps - Tesco gave double stamps on Tuesdays!

Converse4Ever · 16/05/2026 20:32

I often popped in there for milk etc especially if I was near to my £10 so I’d get my free croissant.
Doesn’t seem much point now. I will go in for certain things but probably not as much.

They can’t be that badly off as they are still trying to build multiple new stores.

They changed it for the worse, yet play it like we wanted it. You asked, we listened is the phrase I think they use. A con dressed up as something better.

All supermarkets have been severely impacted by this CoL crisis, they're having to tighten their belts too, just not in the same way as the rest of us @mumofoneAloneandwell 😉🤣

Aww, poor supermarkets. What garbage.
