Why is no one talking about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe?

The right wing press had kittens about Starmer receiving some free glasses, yet are shtum about Farage receiving £5 million in the twelve months prior to him becoming an MP. No one gives someone £5 million pounds. Farage is bought and paid for by a shifty, Thailand based billionaire. Why don't voters and the media care?

While I agree that maybe the taking £5m is all a bit dodgy can we just all please focus on the fuck up that is the actual government that is running this country at the moment. If they weren’t doing such a fucking bad job then the rise of Farage wouldn’t be as successful as it is.

Oh no, no way. We shall laser focus on this man, his circle and his funding.
Precisely to avoid the rise of yet another wanna be richer to government.

Because as you said, he received that money before he was even an MP. So no obligation on him to declare it. And there was no guarantee he ever would become an MP.

They have to declare everything they got up to 12 months before becoming an MP. I think those are the rules.
When did this reward gift happen?

BeardySchnauzer · 14/05/2026 21:55

Grifters gonna grift

I'm surprised HMRC aren’t interested!

PerkingFaintly · 14/05/2026 21:55

Grin Oh dear.

A thread entitled "Why is no one talking about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe?" – and two separate posters have arrived to say, Please don't talk about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe.

PerkingFaintly · 14/05/2026 21:55

It's not even a long thread!Grin

Cheesipuff · 14/05/2026 22:03

I don’t care what bribes he has if he reduces immigration or is a big enough threat that the present gov sorts immigration - cos that’s what Labour need to do

The £5 m quid was given "in early 2024", according to those same articles.

Farage became an MP in July 2024. So yes, even Farage doesn't dispute that it was within the 12 months before he became an MP.

Interestingly, Reform sources quoted in the first of those articles say Farage received the money "before he had decided to stand as an MP".

I wonder if they realise what they've just said there?!Grin

Christopher Harborne, left, wears a beige and black jumper. He has a full head of grey hair and a grey beard and bushy eyebrows. He stands next to Farage who is grinning. Farage is wearing a green suit and checked shirt and purple tie.

Nigel Farage faces standards probe into £5m gift

The probe will examine whether the Reform UK leader should have declared the gift from crypto billionaire.

Well that would be a lot easier if Nige hadn't taken us out of the Dublin Agreement, wouldn't it?

That's the legal agreement which automatically allowed us to return asylum seekers to EU countries they'd passed through.

That automatic ability to move people out was what the Tories were trying to somehow recreate with their massively expensive and totally ineffective Rwanda scheme.

The Dublin Agreement was in an in-built deterrent, courtesy of our membership of the EU.

Wonder why old Nigel was so keen for us to lose that power?

Also wonder why he didn't bother mentioning it in his campaigning?

Cheesipuff · 14/05/2026 22:17

Anything I’ve read says Dublin agreement was ineffectual

ireland is having little or no success in getting its unwanted immigrants out

Let's concentrate on Angela Rayner's tax dodging. She didn't know. Or Starmer's truth dodging.

Or maybe let’s look at the 5 million things that makes Farage look as dodgy as fuck?

BeardySchnauzer · 14/05/2026 22:21

I am no fan of Angela Raynor but her issue is small fry in comparison. And regardless, why do we accept one corrupt politician because there have been others?

the personality cult around farage is thoroughly bizarre

£5m is quite the Brexit benefit

Shame it left the rest of us a lot poorer

£5 million is peanuts compared to what Brexit has cost the UK economy.

Cheers Nige, so committed to Brexit that you got EU passports for your kids.

And why would an immigrant in Thailand be interested in Brexit? What did he get in return for £5m?

TopPocketFind · 14/05/2026 23:11

Harborne gave the Brexit Party £6 million in 2019 and was mentioned in the Panama Papers

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 14/05/2026 23:12

He’s repeatedly talked about that £5m as meaning he can pay for private security for the rest of his life but seems to have immediately spent almost 1/3 of it on a new house. Perhaps it’s a fortress.

hobbledyhoy · 14/05/2026 23:15

It’s about time this fucking grifter was properly scrutinised with the same ferocity the media has for Labour politicians. Though considering who owns them it’s unlikely.

I’d quite like the media to report on the news rather than attempting to create it for more attention and clicks. The American import of 24/7 rolling ‘breaking’ news is doing nobody any favours.

It’s quite the conundrum, isn’t it?

Brontisaurus · 14/05/2026 23:56

Because Farage is a middle aged posh man.

Because most people, even those who like him, accept he’s ever so slightly dodgy and so it comes as less of a surprise.

Because Reform are the “in” thing and all the tub-thumping “patriots” don’t want to accept their Nige is up to this stuff.

The press love him and they hate Labour.

InterestedDad37 · 14/05/2026 23:58

I can't stand Farage, and I'm rather left wing, politically. I also watch and listen to a lot of news. I've heard it discussed quite often in the last 24 hours.
