Why is no one talking about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe?

The right wing press had kittens about Starmer receiving some free glasses, yet are shtum about Farage receiving £5 million in the twelve months prior to him becoming an MP. No one gives someone £5 million pounds. Farage is bought and paid for by a shifty, Thailand based billionaire. Why don't voters and the media care?

I was wondering, who, apart from your mum, would gift you £5 million and not expect anything in return?

Papersquidge · 13/05/2026 22:37

Why is this crypto billionaire who lives in Thailand so interested in supporting his mate? That’s what I want to know!

Farage has changed his story today. He had said the £5m was for security for the rest of his life. Now he says it’s a gift to say thank you for Brexit.

I can't believe that it is ok to accept a £5 million gift as a thank you for campaigning for Brexit! If remain had won and turns out one of the vocal supporters of remain was gifted £5 million there would be outrage!

Viviennemary · 14/05/2026 20:23

Let's concentrate on Angela Rayner's tax dodging. She didn't know. Or Starmer's truth dodging.

TheBlueKoala · 14/05/2026 20:23

Maybe because it's obvious that he's morally corrupt so it's not mindblowing that he's been taking bribes- it's assumed. I feel physically ill just by seeing his picture- sometimes you can just tell a person is filthy by looking at him and this is one of those.

Because Farage has promised him to change legislation in an area that will make this billionaire even richer. Selling out the NHS perhaps?

Dillydollydingdong · 14/05/2026 20:27

Because as you said, he received that money before he was even an MP. So no obligation on him to declare it. And there was no guarantee he ever would become an MP.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage bought a £1.4 million property in cash shortly after receiving a £5m personal gift from billionaire donor Christopher Harborne, according to property records seen by Sky News.

It’s IS being reported - there were a couple things about it on Radio 4 just today.

double post.

I just saw that in the Guardian...
Well, why is this foreign based bilionaire, that as far as I know does not even live in UK, interested in Brexit? Why would they celebrate that Brexit happened by giving 5 million away?
And is reward for driving a political stance, and delivering, more like a payment? So, should it be subjected to full on income taxes?
I think this individual has made more payments to Farage's campaigns. So, did this man push for Brexit? Bankrolling it. Is he also bankrolling Reform? Why?
So many questions.
So glad they are finally asked officially.

On a note, is this 1.4 million house safer? Easier to put surveillance on? Close to his "beloved" constituency?

One of his houses, no idea if it is this £1.4m one, was investigated for burglary. He did initially claimed it was fire bombed.

Dexternight · 14/05/2026 21:34

It's corruption.
But farage drinks a pint, smokes a fag and makes people believe he will make the working class life's better.

He will sell off the NHS, slash support and make himself and his donors richer.
Wake up people.

PerkingFaintly · 14/05/2026 21:35

interestingly, in that same article yesterday, Farage is quoted as saying the gift was "purely private" and "wasn't political in any sense at all".
(I won't repeat the headline in case it causes the post to be hidden again.)
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0l26g01703o

Today, he says, and I quote: "it was given as a reward for campaigning for Brexit for 27 years."

Nigel Farage has short grey hair and his mouth is open as he speaks to reporters, who are not pictured. He is wearing a blue suit jacket and a white shirt.

Sartre · 14/05/2026 21:36

Nobody trash talks him. The fact he was a racist fascist at school quickly disappeared. The fact some of his MEPs took Russian bribes was virtually not reported at all. How on earth can we trust the media.

Sartre · 14/05/2026 21:37

Also, let’s not forget the fact he’s anti-Semitic and told Jewish students at school “Hitler was right”. Yet everyone on here focuses on Polanski, a Jew, being antisemitic. The world is messed up.

TopPocketFind · 14/05/2026 21:42

£5m is quite the Brexit benefit

Shame it left the rest of us a lot poorer

Kettledodger · 14/05/2026 21:43

While I agree that maybe the taking £5m is all a bit dodgy can we just all please focus on the fuck up that is the actual government that is running this country at the moment. If they weren’t doing such a fucking bad job then the rise of Farage wouldn’t be as successful as it is.

TopPocketFind · 14/05/2026 21:43

We can do both

Kettledodger · 14/05/2026 21:44

Obviously not if the polls are accurate

I know, about the fire, indeed.
I just wonder what he will claim. As originally the 5 million were for security. So, is this cash bought house safer than the burning parcel through the letterbox one?

Will this reward for his WORK on Brexit make the five million taxable? It sounds like a sort of wage payment.
