Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

You can order Lincoln biscuits and Romany creams (I imagine 'gipsy' creams had to rebrand) from Amazon but you may just be paying for a very expensive bag of crumbs, I wouldn't trust them even if the package was labelled 'fragile'.

PoachedSmoke · 05/05/2026 22:43

Cadbury Spira. Ye gods, the texture of that chocolate bar was divine!

TheDenimPoet · 05/05/2026 22:44

Kellogg's fibre plus bars. They were wank for actual fibre content as they were advertised (probably why they don't exist anymore), but they were sooo tasty! I took one pretty much every day for my lunch at uni!

Potato Puffs

Omg I loved them!!

Nextweektoo · 05/05/2026 22:55

Squash without sweeteners. That you don't have to pay a fortune for.

Mamabearandcubs · 05/05/2026 23:05

Mars delight

Dontlickthebin · 05/05/2026 23:11

6p a bag Krunchi Puffs (Salt & Vinegar)
Chambourcy Chocolate Mousse (probably spelt that wrong)
Chocolate Ring doughnuts covered in chocolate sprinkles from Sainsbury's

Yes I could do with making more healthy choices 😂

Aliflowers · 05/05/2026 23:27

Just remembered tracker bars.

Gino Ginelli Toffee Fudge Ice cream
Winner Taco, think they were by Walls, ice cream and caramel in a taco with chocolate around the outside
Maverick bars
Fruit Clubs
Punch - basically a mixed berry juice from Tesco. Others aren’t the same.
Pots of fromage frais with feet, I forgot what they’re called
T&T Jazzberry, this berry flavoured fizzy drink that I never had at home but always had at my best mate’s place.

Edited

That has just made me think of the Gino Ginelli advert ‘Tutti Fruti what a cutey - take some Gino home with you” 🤣

Dancingintherain09 · 05/05/2026 23:47

Heinz Cucumber spread

You can still get the sandwich spread but not the cucumber one. Though I think it still sells in other countries 😭 I grew up on that in my sarnies with grated cheese

Hello19834 · 06/05/2026 00:04

Flyte chocolate bar
Secret chocolate bar
Vice Versas
And also a thing I remember from the 80s was this pudding which was a lemon tangy flavoured stuff with biscuity crumb on top. I vaguely remember it being called lemon crunch although this might be the name we made up for it as kids. It was heavenly. I think it was made by Kraft

Hello19834 · 06/05/2026 00:08

It was made by Birds and called hot crunch pudding. Just googled it. Wish they'd bring it back.
Anyone remember Gino Ginelli ice cream? The tutti fruitti one was epic

AbzMoz · 06/05/2026 00:15

Another vote for brannigans beef and mustard crisps - elite! Tom’s tomato ball crisp thingies too.
I was possibly too excited when top deck chocolate came back but I still miss Spira.
The original recipes for Sainsbury mixed fruit or strawberry custard flan with the clear jelly on the top.

Dark chocolate bounty- the red one 😭

No way! I loved that. Echo bars were delicious.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 06/05/2026 00:40

Raspberry fizz bomb sweets

I miss ALL the chocolate from the 70s.
Galaxy and every product it made.
Cadbury’s.
Nestle as well.
It was all gorgeous.
I can remember when the Cadbury’s Caramel came out and it was just delicious.
Munchies were so expensive a rare treat.
Now it’s brown plastic lard.

Does anyone remember a small chocolate bar from the late 70s -

I THINK it was made by Lindt
Small log shaped bar with a dogs face and paws, about 4” long
Filling was some sort of praline
Wrapper was white and gold foil (maybe a bit of red) with the ends twisted

It wasn’t the Lindt chocolate animals sold in boxes. This was sold individually.

Partypippa2 · 06/05/2026 02:25

Fruitettes. They were the same brand as Poppets (the chocolate covered raisins). Or at least the packaging with similar. Chewy balls of deliciousness. I’ve scoured the internet though and can’t find any proof they ever existed.

ByRealOtter · 06/05/2026 03:00

Toast Topper cheese and ham

Brunchies (breadcrumb coated mix of sausage meat, egg and bacon)

PROPER old style Findus Crispy Pancakes (the one now are nothing like the original)

Ting grapefruit fizzy drink (before sweeteners)

AuntieLemonade · 06/05/2026 06:59

Tootie Frooties

Flidina · 06/05/2026 07:12

Bandit chocolate covered biscuits were my favourite as a kid along with Macintosh caramel cup bars, really miss them, also Gino Ginelli tutti frutti ice cream.

i miss the old non vegan fruit pastilles and the syrup sponge you got in a tin, now it’s all dry and stodgy in a packet :(

Oh the boxes and tubes of fruit pastilles and fruit gums were absolutely delicious

Also still available in mainland Europe

And in the UK. We regularly buy them.

I know this is meant to be about foods, but Pear's soap, before they changed the recipe. I could never buy it again after that.

Foods: there are many. Waitrose had amazing non-wheat pasta for a while. spelt penne and buckwheat fusilli. Not expensive and delicious. Sainsbury's is now my regular shop and they have recently stopped stocking Mutti vegan bolognese (I'm not vegan but, boy was it delicious). And Seabrook crisps, both cheaper and nicer than Walkers etc. Okay you can still get those on Ocado...

The worst for me (again off-topic, not food) was Body Shop. They original range of shampoos/conditioners/bshower gel were so perfect. I was planning on buying the same 3 or 4 things for my whole life they were that good. Then they sold to venture capitalists, the whole heart was ripped out of the business, the whole range revamped over and over - they lost me on about the third revamp, never to return. A wonderful British business utterly ruined. So it was chamomile or ice blue shampoo, banana conditioner, coconut and lime shower gel. That and the fantastic range of body butters which were so nice, but a bit too expensive to buy all the time.

I know this is meant to be a light-hearted thread, but I honestly am continuing to mourn these products so many years later...

So many happy food memories. I'll add Rise and Shine powdered "juice" and Lord Toffingtons.
I bought the Ice Blue from the local Cancer Research, for a pound a few years ago. It smells exactly as it used to. I also loved Body Shop's Rosemary shampoo, you used to be able to refil the original bottles in-store.

Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!
JoyLoveJoyInOrbitNsoul · 06/05/2026 07:48

Rise and shine..70s powdered chemical goodness.
I loved that stuff.
