Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

I probably have several but my most fave was Llamas , I’m sure not many people heard of them as no one I ever mention them too has , they were so good , the bbq and sweet chilli .

I used to love strawberry Ribena in a carton before they took out all the sugar and ruined it.

I used to love that sandwich!

For me, it's mainly chocolate bars 🍫 Cadbury Spira, Dairy Milk Pocket bar, Fuse bar, Secret bar, Fruit Club, and Trios.

Baileys Glide, Nutty Bars, also Secret chocolate bar. Getting away from sweets, Bressot cream/soft cheese. It was delicious on fresh bread. Kelloggs Country Store.

M&S used to make this hickory steak pasta, also available as a pizza which was strips of steak, slicked peppers and onions in this sweet and smoky sauce - was so good and I’d pay good money if they brought it back… I was actually going to email them about it 😂

Ooh also Drifter bars and a box of Cadbury Flake moments 🍫

I hadn’t even noticed spira and drifter had gone and now I’m craving both! How about Topic bars? BBQ beef skips? And the proper original birdseye super mousse?

Lidl used to do medium sized crab,crayfish in brine,as well as lobster,all the time. The crab and crayfish have been discontinued and lobster is only available at Christmas.

Bitz bars.
I ate a least one a day when pregnant with dd, 25 years ago! I still miss them.

I had some from tesco not too long ago.

Ooh, I was just thinking about them. They were delicious, wish you could still get them 😋

Punch - basically a mixed berry juice from Tesco. Others aren’t the same.
Pots of fromage frais with feet, I forgot what they’re called
T&T Jazzberry, this berry flavoured fizzy drink that I never had at home but always had at my best mate’s place.

Oh I’d forgotten about the ice cream taco things! They were so nice!

Thurston’s Smoky Bacon Roll. Like a sausage roll but flavour of smoky bacon. It was delicious. that must have been late 80s.

We had great local bakeries but Thurstons were big in Halifax! They eventually merged into the Greggs brand. Same blue squares logo.

More specifically local to where I lived, Waite’s vanilla slice, and dinky pork or beef pies, Watsons vanilla slice, which was significantly different to Waite’s, and a Country Stores or Pennine Provisions salad sandwich.

More than any of those, I miss Kolos Bakery Ukrainian Rye Bread. They were a Bradford bakery and my whole heart still misses their bread. It was dense and not too dark. Perfect as toast. If I could have it once more…

Sainsbury used to do a delicious ice-cream , peanut butter flavour with swirls of caramel and chocolate crisp wafer.

How I miss 54321s and black cherry chocolates in the roses selection.

Oh and this is boring but Kelloggs did Common Sense Oat Bran Flakes with raisins and apple and I loved them!

@StrictlyCoffee I am so happy someone remembers Winner Tacos! I was starting to worry I’d made them up as hardly anyone recalls having them.

Kellogg’s just right has also been discontinued, apart from in “specialist shops” whatever that means! I used to buy Sainsbury’s own brand version but that got discontinued years ago. Boooo!

Oh yes! When we had office lunches with food provided, that was always a key staple that we all fought over.

A Mackintosh Golden Cup. The absolute king of chocolate bars. I regularly check whether they’re being brought back as there are often campaigns for it.

Cadbury also made a cream liqueur, which became no 2 after Baileys - but was discontinued for some reason:

A bugger to peel foil off if they got a bit melty and broken .
Otherwise ace.
